The person wants to "game", ie Sims, L4D2, type stuff, and wants to browse facebook. Her budget is $300. I check Newegg and feel like I'm buying a Jet for someone who's going to use it to go to the grocery store. What the hell is she gonna do with 8 gigs of ram and a hex core for example and a 2TB HD? Jesus. It just doesn't feel right. Poor little computer is gonna be bored as shit.

$300 is really hard to do unless you have a ton of spare parts available. Please answer the stickied "ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FIRST" so that we can get a better idea of what she needs. With that said, the Sims games tend to be pretty CPU heavy.

No it's not, and this isn't a question, it's more of a general statement. I was just stating its kinda weird how powerful a system can be relative to what a general user does with it these days. I mean it's not like it costs much either

but it will be future-proof...until Candy Crush requires a quad-core CPU and 2600 CUDA Cores

Well compared to top end hardware yes, but relative to the person's needs its way way overkill !
Top-end? I'm talking about good cheap parts like the $40 Corsair CX430, $45 to $50 NZXT Source 210 Elite, $50 Biostar A880GZ motherboard, $58 Corsair XMS 8GB DDR3 1333 RAM, etc. All of the parts I mentioned aren't much more and are of far far better quality or pricing.
