gotta choose between gigabyte or xfx
they're the same price!
does anyone know which has the better cooler and high stock clock speeds and what not?
 
XFX for double lifetime warranty.

Easier to sell both cards whenever ATIs DX11 cards show up.
 
Xfx is the way i think. I have one along with a msi but xfx has the warranty ;).

It should be fine. I've run them with a Corsair TX750w without issue, even OC'd to 925/1100 mhz each and no hiccups.

As everyone else has said, the XFX is better. Both have reference coolers but the XFX has the incredible warranty.
 
so i bought two 4890's! the brand HIS

the gpu test on crysis scored an average of about 17 (crossfire disabled)
crossfire enabled got me an average of about 26 but tree's for example in the distance and alot of other things in the backgroud "flicker" this doesnt happen when crossfire is disabled!??!!?!?! why could this be?
 
ok im using crossfire xtension 1.4
ive now used openGL and forced AF to 8x
rather than direct3d and no AF
now...no flickering
would still like some input

How am I getting 32fps average on the GPU test in crysis benchmark with everything as high as it will go including AA @ 1680x1050 with one 4890 and you are getting 17? What resolution are you running at?

umm dunno wat happened here, just lived my life for 24 hours, came back to my comp! ran the test again the gpu test that is and scored avg 37fps crossfire disabled! so my bad

Might want to use a 64bit OS as well.

You have 6gigs of memory, and 2 1gig Video cards.

Man thats gotta suck totally for you :(
 
yeh well i guess i should just go find myself a 64bit OS
it knows the 6gig ram is there, just doesnt show it
 
Umm.. 6GB of RAM on an AMD Dual Channel Platform?

That means you're not running Dual Channel (3x2GB sticks).

Take one stick out (or purchase another single 2GB stick) and install a 64bit O/S.

if i get a 64bit os cant i just leave it? 2gig in the 1st channel then 4 in the second?

so you are running 2x 1gb and 2x 2gb? if so then yeah you should be able to do that but check your mobo info to be sure.

i got 1x2gig stick in the first channel and 2x2gig sticks in the 2nd channel was told thats wat i should do...just need the 64bit OS

you cant have 1x 2gb stick and get dual channel. it takes 2 sticks hence the name "dual channel". in other words both slots of a channel need to have a stick of the same size in it.
 
yeah you won't get proper dual channel operation with 3 memory sticks. It just doesn't work that way.

Nice video cards btw, but aren't they noisy as hell?

cheers, they are pretty sweet :) so happy with em, they're loud as fuck on start up and they make a certain sound when loading particular thing too, but yeh they're great :) nice and snug in my case as ud imagine massive air flow in my case too so its not exactly quiet anyway
