Hey guys,
So i finally decided to cave in and build a new computer. The old amd 4800+ is just time to go. I have been so far out of the loop on whats good im lost, so here is what im thinking,
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700
EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i
OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Im going to buy a one of the new evga cards (gtx 280) in a while. A month or so
I have a thermaltake tsunami case now, do you guys think it will work?
Also I have the hds right now, probably buy a 500 gig one soon. Any suggestions

Yeah ditch the Q6700. The Q6600 is a far better value since it can be had for $180 to $200.

Some questions that we need answered:
- What are you planning on doing with this PC?
- What size monitor do you have?
- What's your budget?
- What parts do you need in that budget? Please be as specific as possible.
- What features do you need in a motherboard?

Ditch the 780i. Answer Danny's questions for a replacement recommendation.

The HDD cage might get in the way of large vidcards, though it may fit and you'll just have to be creative about where you mount your HDD.

For a new HDD, get the WD6400AAKS or any Samsung F1 series. They use higher density platters than most other drives, so they're the fastest 7200RPM drives right how.

Don't forget to answer Danny's questions.

Ill be doing some gaming, not alot, school work the normal stuff, Like to have something that I will be able to play games on for a while
I have a 20 inch monitor right now, probably buy a new 22-24 widescreen soon.
Budgets for what i need right now (mobo, cpu, ram) is somewhere around 5-600
Dont really know what i need in a mobo, i dont oc, dont really mess around with anything. I guess something with all around performance...

How soon will you be getting that 24" monitor? If you want SLI, how soon will you be able to get the second GTX 280?

And try to figure out what else you want in a motherboard like RAID, Firewire, # of SATA ports, etc. Many motherboards today perform about the same.

If you want to keep SLI as an option, get the eVGA 750i SLI FTW. Danny has more to add regarding SLI once you answer his questions. There's a HUGE difference between a 22" and a 24" monitor (not only in direct price, but indirect price due to vidcards, which is due to a much higher resolution), so you should really decide.

Raid isnt a big deal, since I usually only have about 2 hard drives ever. I dont really have anything that uses firewire, Id like one external sata incase i ever get an external hd. I may get the monitor in a couple of months because i only have a job for the summer right now, making more than enough cash. As for sli, it also depends on how long i get to keep this job when school starts back up

So i think i figured out what i want to get, and need some thoughts
intel q6600
I think I will probably stick with the ram
Im getting stuck on the mobo, Im not locked into buyin an evga, so any other mobos would be good. I will be buying the 22inch widescreen monitor soon, and need something with good all around performance. I will be buying an evga gtx260 something in a while. So any thoughts would help

For a 22" monitor, you do not need SLI. So lucikly for you, you can go with a P45, X38 or X48 motherboard instead:

Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L Intel P43 Motherboard - $96
MSI P45 Neo3-FR Intel P45 Motherboard - $114
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R Intel P45 Motherboard - $146
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 Motherboard - $150
DFI Lanparty DK X38-T2R Intel X38 Motherboard - $185
Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 Intel X38 Motherboard - $225

Just to help you out: If you don't need RAID, more than 6 SATA ports and only need semi-decent overclocking, check out the DS3L. If you need 8 SATA ports, RAID, 4 PCI slots, and legacy ports, then get the Neo3-Fr. If you don't need more than 6 SATA ports but want RAID, firewire, a second PCI-E x16 port, a second gigabit port, support for 16GB of RAM, optional eSATA, and high overclocks, then get the DS3R. If you like the DS3R but need 8 SATA ports, want an onboard pre-installed fast booting Linux setup or don't need a second gigabit port, get the Asus P5Q Pro. If you want Crossfire with full x16/x16 bandwidth, get the Lanparty DK X38.

Also, ditch the OCZ RAM as well and go with this cheaper but still excellent set:
G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ 2 x 2GB DDR2 800 RAM - $84
