Ok, I am in upgrade mode. With the X2s coming out soon and the new video cards on the horizon, I just can't help but build myself a new PC. :p

Ok, the proposed specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon X2 4400+ (when it is available, hopefully next week or two)

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe -

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) -

SAPPHIRE X850XT 256MB -

Antec TRUE550 -

I already have a Coolermaster CM Stacker case and two Raptor hard drives. So, I am not upgrading them.

I do not plan to do much overclocking if any. I do want the best performance out of the gate as far as stock settings goes. The sli board is for the future, I know I can't have two Radeon cards in there. I may decide to go with the next gen g70 though, and would like the option of another video card slot if I ever wanted to go that route.

I welcome any critiques or suggestions. Thanks.

I think X2s are gonna be more than a week or two till they are even released, never mind when you can actulally buy the buggers.

Other than the fact that it isnt really known when youll be able to buy the X2, thats a pretty damn good system. Ill sure be jealous

Are u planning on gaming, I was wondering how the X2 perform in gaming compared to the FX series. I seen a statement that AMD said to stick with the AMD64's and FX's for gaming.

Any reason for the SLI board with a single card? Why don't you save money and get the Ultra chipset instead?

Was gonna say so he could add a second card in future... but, ATI. So, why are you getting an sli board?

;)...

I thought of that, but if such thinking was occuring... I would expect most people wouldn't buy the highest-end card right now. But then nothings a definite. Interesting thought process if your getting it just in case though

Yeah, I am getting the X850 for now so that when the next gen cards arrive, I can sell that card and make pretty good money off of it. I know I may never use the sli, I just want to have it just in case. Thanks for all of the comments everyone. :)

my first two choices would be the msi sli or the dfi sli over the asus sli. dfi for oc and the msi oc decent not to mention great onboard sound. asus would be my third choice. but nice system you have layed out anyways.

Don't get an SLI mobo unless you get a SLI capable video card. Meaning either trade the X850 for a 6800GT/Ultra or change hte mobo out.

Yeah why are u getting SLI if you are only using one card?

I was getting an sli board in case I decide to update to the upcoming Nvidia G70.

Assuming I never use the Nvidia card, are there any advantages to getting a non-sli board compared to an sli board? Well, other than price of course.

I basicly see no point in getting SLI unless you do plan to update and get a 2nd card. But I have heard from people that these new 7xxx Nvidia cards might be as good as 2 6xxx cards in SLI.

I think thats mainly conjecture, they certainly need to be if nvidia arent going to loose face, assuming pricing structures are similar, then your brand new top of the line cards get owned by laste gen tech is a bit embarresing and something they no doubt want to avoid. Assuming they dont add features in directx 10 that completly owns 9 so much as to make it incomprehensible to still only use a 9 graphics card.
