Well, theres my comp..... My budget for a new cpu is ~1000 canadian.
 
You can do so much better for so much less. Check out the FS/FT forum for rigs people are selling. Your rig is just plain wrong.

yeah its almost five years old... believe it or not it was purchased for over 2.5k....... brings tears to my eyes....
 
also: i want to be able to game at least cs at +90 fps. being able to play cs source and hl2 would be a plus..... but i dont think i am going to get it OR doom 3. i think the classic cs is good enough so if i have a comp that can go +90 fps on cs without every dipping under 70, ill be happy.
 
go with an amd 2500+ rig. that'll be around $400-600 USD and will play what you want pretty nicely.
 
see my sig....built it for HL2 will add a 6800 ultra Nov. 16 ! it should be able to handle anything I throw at it !.....OC'd the 2.6 to 3.0, but I may change that as well !....my version of an UGC !

Seriously, all we needed to know was you use a P3, a voodoo3, and had 128 MB RAM. All the other stuff we could've gleaned (as in: old :p )

wow if u pay 240$ for that motherboard u need to consider killing yourself and tigerdirect. look at ncix.com and vibecomputers.com there both pretty good. Extreme-pc.ca is also a pretty good store.
 
 
 
I say, go for a Socket 754 motherboard with compatible Sempron processor. The Sempron has great IPC like the Athlon 64 does, plus you have the option to upgrade to as high as the Athlon 64 3700+ if you get some more money.
