Which one?

I hear people recommend DFI around here all the time, but I am not sure what the difference is between SLI-D and SLI-DR?

I'm also not sure which CPU to get, I plan on pairing it up with a 7800 GTX and get another 7800 GTX later, so what would be good? I would like to keep the cost under 1000 but I really want to make sure this time when I build it up, that it is a top performer.

For reference, my current system is a s754 AMD 64 3000+ Kingston Hyper X low latency (2-2-2-5) DDR 400 and a 9800 pro 128 on a Soyo CK8 Dragon Plus on water cooling (aquarius II)

I figure I can part out the mobo vid card and CPU and just use the water cooling on a Venice and maybe some AS5 on the cpu, and get a good OC.

A 7800GTX in a $1,000 budget? I'd like to see you pull that off...

I don't think its a fresh build up. It looks like he's recycling his ram and other components. I think he's just needing a mobo, CPU and video card. If he sticks to a A64 3000 or 3200+ Venice he could pull it off.

Could run a SLI-DR, Venice 3200+, and a 7800 GTX under a 1k budget if parts are recycled.

Personally I wouldn't go any lower than the 3500+ as it will bottleneck your system, especially when you get the 2nd 7800. A 4000 or even 3700 would be better.

3000+ and OC

I have my 3000+ running at 2.6Ghz, but it did 2.7Ghz and was fairly stable (not Prime95 stable). This was on a Chaintech...with the DFI you might get it stable with some tweaking.
