Hi,
My current gaming rig is going on 2 years old and I think it is time for a upgrade.
My current rig:
Amd-64 6000+
4 gigs of ram Kingston HyperX DDR2
512 Gigs WD Sata HD
Vista business 64 bit
Nvidia 9800 GT 512 meg
EVGA 590 motherboard
I have a Viewsonic 28 inch lcd that does 1920X 1200.

What I want to do is replace the system this summer, My current machine and past one do not have either a Floppy or DVD drive installed, I use USB version of them only , hooking up when needed(which is not much)
What I want to do is build my gaming rig inside a HTPC case and get away from towers.
I am thinking about the Nvidia 295 gt cards once they comes out and a few driver updates happen.
I am also thinking about going with 8 gigs of ram this time as I also want to start playing with virtual machines during non-gaming sessions.
Again Vista 64 business will be used.
I am looking at maybe getting a case similar to SilverStone_Lascala_SST-LC10, the only things inside the case will be PS ,MB and video card, so hopefully heat will not be a issue, This computer will be hooked up to a big screen for game playing, so It will be 1900X1080.
I don’t plan on Over Clocking, just running stock speeds.
Other than the cost of the video card(while hopefully will have dropped by this summer) I would like to spend no more than 1000.00 total.(I’m big fan of New Egg) I would like my GPU not to be CPU bound if possible, I have no problem switching back to Intel From AMD if that makes any difference.
What I would like is some suggestions on CPU and motherboards that would fit in the type of case I hope to be using, and hopefully get at least a 4x improvement in performance,
The games I usually play are City Of Heroes/Villains, Morrowwind,Diablo2 and Guild Wars

If you are not looking to upgrade till the summer, it's best to wait till then and ask. You can get a rough idea now but in the summer prices will be different and you'll be able to get better stuff for the same price.

At least by the games you usually play, I don't think you'll get anything better for them with a fast PC. I suspect you play more games than those.

no not really i just pasted 51 months on coh/cov, i play about 3 hours a night, it is a bit of a social gathering to me,it could be that i may not need a new rig that it plays all that i want ok,i realize prices and such will change, but one questin is which of the quads would be a good upgrade? i know i get a bit of a hit when the anti-virus kicks in, and 2 more cores would off load some of the hit from the game

Lies! Go for a dual core for games dude.

All of the games on your list will play maxed out on your current system fine.

I would totally wait for Deneb to come out. Your system is still very strong for now. I'm holding out until Deneb lowers the prices of the 45nm Core 2 quads so I can upgrade to one.
