I am going to be picking up Windows 7 through the student deal they are offering

Sorry, forgot about the time frame. I am hoping to buy the new parts as soon as possible, within the next 1-3 days preferably barring any amazing upcoming deals. My current computer is declining rapidly so I would like to have new parts in place before this one gives up.

I guess my only question I have is how "important" or helpful would be getting a DX11 card such as the 5770?

I'd like to have this computer be at least usable with games that come out in the next couple of years(if thats even possible) and if DX11 becomes more prevalent then I would hate to be looking at my DX10 card that cost the same amount.

Also, with my realization that I won't be able to get my hands on a cheap OS until Win7 ships, my time frame for purchasing parts has grown to within the next week most likely.

I don't think theres any huge improvements with DX11 over 10, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong. If there's not a huge difference, most games should play fine in DX10, so not much to worry about. Read the reviews and decide which card would be best for the games you play. Here's a couple:

I would go for the 5870/5850/5770 now that they have released. You are paying a premium for the 4890 still but the 5770 and up have shown to have just as much power with lower consumption as well as newer technology. Checked the Egg today and they have the XFX 5770 for $174, which will be close to, if not as fast, as the 4890 with half the power consumption and at ~$100 less.

$100 less? you mean $10 less, right? 'cuz a PowerColor HD4890 is $185, and an XFX is $195.
