Hai i want to buy a new computer because the one i actually have is falling appart xD it's 6 years old anyway so i won't regret saying goodbye to it.
It's the first computer i build and i don't know a lot about computers xP
I'd like to buy on www.newegg.ca

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
I'm looking for a real beast that can run games like FarCry 2, Left 4 Dead and future games. I'm also using drawing programs like Photoshop/Artrage/OpenCanvas using a Bluetooth GraphicTablet (I actually have Bluetooth USB Device but it's not really doing a good job x_x)
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1400 Canadian
3) Where do you live?
Canada, Quebec
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
-Quad Core CPU ( i got told to not pick i7 but i have no idea why )
For the CPU i'd like to have 2.8 Ghz and above, or something that can be easily overclocked to 2.8 Ghz +
-4GB Ram DDR3 ( a friend recommended me 6GB but other people told me it was too much )
-Best GPU possible i could get without sacrificing quality in the other components ( a friend recommended me a GTX280/ 285cc but i have no idea about what it is xP )
-I don't know much about Hard Drives but i'd say i would like a good one :p around 500GB would be nice
-I don't know much about cases but i had this one in mind http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021
-I need Bluetooth technology
-i also don't know what cooling system i should get xP

i don't know if there's any other technology i would need but if you'd like to suggest or recommend something you can xP
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific
about the power supply. List make and model.
I'm not reusing any parts, keyboard and other stuff will be bough later at a local store.
6) Will you be overclocking?
Yes
7) What size monitor do you have or plan to have?
i currently have a Dell 19" Flat Screen but in 1 or 2 months i want to buy a monitor screen of a pretty good quality ( i don't really know how it works with monitors but if you want to recommend me stuff you can)
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
As soon as i know which parts to buy :p
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
-SLI support
I would like a motherboard that is prepared for future technology so i could upgrade later.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
No (i have no idea what OS to get, someone told me maybe Vista Home Premium)

So yeah, that's about it
I don't know if everything i said make sens but like i said i'm a newbie in computers xP

Your friend's advice seems pretty good. The reason to not get a core i7 would be strictly money and your expected usage out of your computer. Core i7 has great performance on certain applications, mainly those that are heavily multi-threaded such as encoding. Gaming is not very heavily multi-threaded and in those core i7 is roughly the same speed or only a little faster than core 2. for your 19" monitor you don't need SLI. If you upgrade to 24" you might need SLI at some point in the future but it might be cheaper to just get a newer video card then too. If nobody else has replied when I am free later (doubtful, people are always around here heh) then I'll try to part something out for you.

Don't quote a long post, esp if you're #2.... we know you're replying.

Wow that's sure useful lowteckh. I was going to breakdown what he posted which is why I was quoting him but I didn't have enough time. But yes your post was far more useful. If you are gonna flame me for something as silly as that at least post something constructive.

Drenko, something like this would probably suit your needs:

CPU: Q6600 245.99
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro 163.99
HDD: Western Digital 640GB Blue 94.49
Ram: G.Skill 2x2 GB DDR2-800 CL5 50.39. Your post indicated you wanted ddr3, but on your budget it is cheaper to get a DDR2 motherboard. there is very very little performance gain from DDR3 using Core2 Cpu's like the Q6600.
PSU: BFG MX 680 (170, Modular, cheaper than Corsair's modular) or Corsair 650W (126, non modular)
OS: Vista Home Premium 64 Bit 155
GPU: I'd just get a GTX 260 for about 370 for graphics and save the money.

The Antec 900 is fine, another good case on a semi-budget is the CoolerMaster RC-690. A little bit cheaper at $113, big, has cable management and lots of cooling, and generally is just a good case.

For Overclocking depends how hardcore you want to get. The Xigmatek 1283 is pretty good and quite affordable, but you need to go outside Newegg I think to get a backplate.

Price: About $1370 for the GTX 260, MX680 and the CM690, without the xigmatek. You can go with the non modular PSU and take another 50 off that. Add in the Xigmatek or another Heatsink combo of your choice and you should be all set.

thanks a lot for giving me some of your time Anchen, could i ask you what i would go for if i decide to increase my budget to get DDR3 stuff ? ^^;; if it cost another 200$ i'm ok with this, if it goes too high i'll get the build you did for me :)

Flame? If everyone quotes everyone we'd have a helluva mess in the reading department.

Hey Drenko,
Well, if you aren't going Core i7 DDR3 really is pretty inefficient use of your money. If you are willing to spend an extra 200, we might need more specifics then on exactly how big your new monitor will be. We can adjust your video card and/or other stuff a bit and maybe get you a core i7 rig at that price since it'd actually have some future upgrade ability, although that doesn't seem high on your list. I just can't really stand by a recommendation for ddr3 with a core 2 based system though. I can give you some parts that would work for ddr3/core2 but I don't think it's in your best interest overall.

Why not DDR3 with QuadCore ? the reason i'd prefer DDR3 is for the future technology so if i have to pay a little bit more it doesn't matter really

Current Core 2 Duo based systems do not take advantage of DDR3 RAM. In other words you would see ZERO performance increase over DDR2 RAM with DDR3 RAM in real world apps and games on Core 2 Duo based systems. So no reason to get DDR3 RAM for a Core 2 Duo based system.

well i finally got all the parts and assembled everything.
Everything is working except the videocard and i can't hear a beep when i start the computer because i don't have the Speaker thingy connected, also the fact i don't have the wire for this -_-

i really don't know what to do anymore might as well call a store no ? but any better suggestion is very welcome xP pretty much why i wrote

Try running a bare-bones build... the steps can be found in the troubleshooting sticky.
