1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

Video and photo editing with Adobe suite products and sony vegas, Gaming (FPS's) higher end, web browsing email checking etc

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

$1000 - $1500

3) Where do you live?

Tucson Az

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. "Everything" is
not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

I currently have 4GB DDR2 Patriot G series, MSI 240GT 1GB DDR5, Intel E5400 not oc'd, OCZ Stealth Extreme PSU 600W, ECS G41T-M Board, Sony optical Drive WD 1 TB Caviar Black HDD, other various HDD's but all older IDE... I just put this together because I needed something for cheap. but if any of this can/should be re-used thats ok, I'm also ok with scrapping all of it. I also need a Case, but one thing to consider is that it is important to me that this computer is quite. My last PC was so loud it was annoying to turn on(I should have went with water cooling then)

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about
the power supply. List make and model.

See above (probably reuse the Caviar Black and the Sony optical)

6) Will you be overclocking?

Very Likely, unless it doesn't suit my needs

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

I have a Dell 30" monitor and also an Acer 23"

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

Within next few weeks

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

I would like to set up a RAID configuration, but I don't know if the motherboard or seperate card is best for that.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?

I'm not sure on which OS I will be using and that is another question I have. Which OS is best used with the CS5 software? Don't include OS cost in budget.

I know this is a bit all over the place, but thanks in advance for the input.

$485 - Intel Core i7-930 CPU + Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R X58 ATX Motherboard Combo
$170 - G.Skill F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM
$350 - eVGA 012-P3-1470-AR GeForce GTX 470 1280MB PCI-E Video Card
$120 - Antec Truepower New TP-750 750W PSU
---
Total: $1125 plus tax and shipping.

Reuse your 1TB black drive and optical drive. Case is a gonna be a bit trickier.

Case you could go with the CM 690 II with all scythe fans on a controller. Would probably be like $150ish total with case/fans/controller but it would be worth it if you want quiet and good cooling.

That looks pretty sweet, thanks for the speedy reply.

Do you think 6 Gigs is enough RAM?

How does the 930 rate amongst the I7's? The reason I ask is because when the C2D's first came out, I went with the E6400(I think that was the number) which was a bit lower in the field of the C2D's but I had some great results with overclockin which made up for it, is the 930 something like that? Or is it good and going to be alot better once oc'd

How does that Vid Card rate amongst them all? Is there better and if so how much. Do ATI's compare or is it pointless because I will be using some CS5 programs?

THanks guys

Well more RAM can't hurt. You certainly have enough room in your budget to get 12GB of RAM if you want/need it.

Well the i7 930 is pretty much the best bang for the buck i7 CPU out now. Unlike the C2D series where there was a reasonable enough price scaling between the CPUs, the price scaling between all of the Core i7 CPUs is pretty extreme to the point that most of the time, the only Core i7 CPU we ever recommend around here is the Core i7 930. Maybe the COre i7 920 if the budget was super tight and if no overclocking was involved.

If it wasn't for you using CS5 programs, I wouldn't recommend the GTX 470 at all. I would have recommended the $50 cheaper, cooler running, equally performing, and lower powered HD 5850 instead. However due to your primary usage being Adobe CS5 and video editing, a Nvidia card would be the ideal chose due to Nvidia's CUDA being extensively used for some of CS5's apps/features (MPE for example)
