Suggestions appreciated for components for building a new video editing workstation - not yet using 4K footage, but will be within a year. I use a range of applications that are variously CPU and RAM and GPU intensive. Extremely important that PC be as quiet as possible. Not sure how much my workflow would benefit from overclocking and multiple GPUs, but would like the capability. Considering the following:

Intel I7-5960X
ASUS X99 Deluxe
32GB RAM
Corsair AX 1200 Plus Platinum
ASUS GTX 980 (start with one, maybe another later)
Fractal Design R4 case
Water cooler (no idea, help please)
SSD drives (qty = 4 , PCIe, M.2, ???

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Heavy duty video editing, VFX, motion graphics, compositing, color correction, audio processing, etc.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$5000

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

USA

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
See above

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Monitors, dual, Eizo 27"
Optical drive
Firewire card
Internal disk drives for media assets and archived projects

6) Will you be overclocking?
Will give it a try to see how it affects playback and render speeds

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
2560 x 1440, 27", dual monitors. Eventually would like a single large (>32") 4K monitor.

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
ASAP

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
ASUS X99 Deluxe has all the features I need

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes, Windows 8 64-bit

Advice greatly appreciated, especially water cooling and SSD drives.

Many thanks.

For the SSDs, I recommend the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSDs at a minimum since your usage seems to be rather heavy duty. I don't recommend the PCI-E or M.2 based SSDs since they're not quite that mature yet IMO.

In regards to your SLI requirement, are you absolutely sure that your workflow actually requires two video cards in SLI? Generally, that only benefits gaming.

As for the cooling, if you actually want quiet, then you're going to want either an air-cooling HSF or a true water cooling setup, not one of those liquid all-in-one coolers. For an air-cooling HSF, I recommend the Noctua NH-D15. For water cooling, I recommend hitting up the water-cooling subforum.

As for the case, the Fractal Design R4 is a very good case. But considering your budget, I highly recommend reading this review of the FT02:

Thank you, Dangman, for the valuable advice.

Adobe Premier Pro can use multiple GPUs for rendering, but I have no idea how much benefit I would get when I transition to 4K video. For right now I just want to make sure I have a power supply and clearance in the case for an additional video card.

Everything I read about the FT02 is ideal, except it is just too large to fit in my editing station. I'm now leaning towards the NXZT H440.

Thanks again for the help/

The NZXT H440 is a good case but I cannot vouch for its actual low noise ability in comparison to other cases like the R4, P280, or 550D.

If you want any type of warranty support, you might want to choose a different brand than ASUS for your motherboard.
