Hey guys, I need to get a build together for a new work computer for me. I'm the sysadmin at a small ISP, so I need my workstation to do a lot of stuff, mainly web browsing most of the day, but I will be running some VMs on the box too I'm sure. I will probably be running Linux as my main os (Arch or Debian, haven't decided yet) but I may go ahead and get a Win7 license for dual boot.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
work, web browsing, running virtual machines

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
I'm thinking my boss will let me spend up to 2000, maybe a little higher, not necessarily including shipping

3) Where do you live?
Louisiana

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Everything, I don't have any parts I want to reuse. CPU, mobo, RAM, case, PSU, HDD, video card, monitors

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
none

6) Will you be overclocking?
probably not

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
I hope to run dual 24" monitors, please give suggestions on these too

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
hopefully within a week or so. I want to get the build ready so I know what I want and how much it will cost when I ask permission to order. Can't be waiting around or the boss will change his mind =)

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.
nothing specific on the mobo, RAID would be nice, but I haven't decided if I want to run one yet or not.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
going to run Linux on this, but will probably buy a copy of Win7 for dual boot

Thanks guys!

Do you absolutely need that PC ASAP? I ask because with such a high budget, you might be better off just waiting for Intel's Sandy Bridge based CPUs. They're suppose to be 10% to 15% faster than current high-end Intel CPUs but priced about the same. Those new CPUs are due out on January 5th.

But if you need a PC right now, I'm just gonna recommend a slightly overkill best bang for your buck setup:

Guys

I made this thread a while back, but my boss wasn't ready for me to pull the tigger on this build just yet. Well now I think he's ok with me getting a new machine so I thought I would get some new advice. The build that Danny originally found for me looked good, any updates to that? or new combo deals running around?

What say you [H]ardware gurus?
