1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Adobe CC, rendering in Preimere, Light gaming, nothing to hard core. Sorta looking to build a really nice well rounded but not over the top system
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1300-1500
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
Merica'
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, RAM, MOBO, Case, cooler
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Corsair 750w PSU, Intel 520 180gb SSD, 2TB WD Blue, and MAYBE Radeon 7970 3gb
6) Will you be overclocking?
mildly
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
2560x1440P, 27" and then a secondary 1080P
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Right now

Howdy all, I'm looking to kill the x58 system and move on finally. I'm seeking advice on 2 areas. I can't decied if I'd be further ahead going 4970k/z97 or if I should splurge on a 5820k/x99. If i go z97 I can prolly get 32 gigs of ram, x99 only 16. I'm leaning towards x99 and 16gb and upgrading the ram later on.

The other issue facing me is if I should maybe go less than either of those options and replace my video card. I'm on a now older than I like to admit 7970 3gb. I don't game much so I'm leaning towards not replacing it, but if a system would be overall much better with less CPU and say a 970 gtx I'd be open.

Parts I'm pretty well set on are an NZXT H440 and a H100i.

Thanks for input!

Reuse your current card. The GTX 970 doesn't really offer you anything that would justify $350 for it.

What Corsair PSU do you have now?
What OS are you going to be using?
And question 9?
Are you trying to aim for a quiet system or a high performance systems or both?

1)Corsair 750 TX

2)I have retail Win 7 pro, I might buy 8 if it is a free upgrade to 10, figure I'd know by the time parts arrived, so it's up in the air.

3)Only feature in a board I need are 6 sata and I'd like m.2 and maybe sata express. that's what keeping me from getting a bigger SSD right now, waiting for the new interfaces to take off.

4)Dead silence is not important but overall noise would be something I'd consider an issue, definitely do NOT want a loud system and would trade a bit of performance to be quieter.

$390 - Intel Core i7-5820K CPU
$233 - ASRock X99 Extreme4 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 ATX Motherboard
$380 - 2 x Crucial 2 x 8GB DDR4 2133 RAM
$120 - Fractal Design Define R5 Black ATX Case
$55 - Noctua NH-U12P SE2 HSF
-------
Total: $1178 shipped

I recommend the above case + PSU setup since it's going be quieter than your planned setup. However, if you want to maximize cooling at the expense of noise levels, I would recommend the getting the Coolermaster Seidon 120M or the Nepton 280L. Yes that is 32GB of RAM.

That setup brings tears to my eyes....

If you go with above, you can spend ~350 on a 970GTX and still come out at $1528....
