Hey all,

I already made a post about a computer build i was doing, and i got tons of help from the community. The main purpose of the computer will be gaming, and i am re-using absolutely nothing, and buying everything. Please input your advice on my selection for a last critiquing. My main worries are that the RAM is 1333, and that my GPU is a little overkill. If theres something else that you feel i could save money on, please feel free to tell me. Im trying to slim this budget down by about 100$.

Games ill be playing: MMOs like Guild Wars 2 and Elder Scrolls Online (when it gets here), BF3, and maybe some Left For Dead if i feel like it :p Itll be on 1 monitor (havent bought it yet) but i plan on eventually buying a few more over the next several years, getting up to 3 or 4 monitors.

That system should work just fne for you. I'm not real fond of the mouse selection and I would probably go for a Logitech G700 if it was me. The RAM you selected will be fine because Sandy/Ivy don't really see much of a performance increase above 1333. If you have a few extra $$ to spend I would also upgrade the PSU to an AX750 since the AX is a better unit.

Other than those suggestions you will be very happy with your new system and how well it plays games.

Also, you should buy nothing less than a 1080p monitor and if you can find a 1200p that would be even better. For the ultimate in high rez affordable gaming you might want to consider a Catleap 1440p monitor.

Im already kind of pushing it with the price, so i think ill stick with that PSU. Glad the RAM doesnt need to be any higher, too! And ill look at the monitor you suggested. I might dial back the GPU to a 7950, unless i can cut expenses elsewhere (probably the case).

Here is the biggest problem with that NXZT Switch case: There is no provision at all whatsoever for a left-side-panel-mount fan, nor there are any left-side-panel vents at all whatsoever. Plus, the included fan(s) and fan locations are insufficient to adequately cool the GPU. This may result in the overheating of the GPU (or at least the GPU running significantly hotter than necessary).

Never thought of that. What would you recommend? My other choice was the HAF X Blue series for $170. Its got a ton of 5.25" bays, which is something i like. I liked the idea of getting a fan controller, as well, so i could put that in one of the 5.25" bays
 
Gigabyte is the best bang for buck for sub $400 GTX 670s, but the ASUS DC2T is cooler and quieter yet.
 
But which one? Ive heard people say the GIGABYTE and others say EVGA. :confused:

Even though the Gigabyte has three fans, they all blow all that GPU heat back into the computer case. So, if you were to stick with that NXZT Switch case, go with the eVGA GTX 670 (which uses the reference cooler that actually blows the hot air out the back plane of the card).

I think i might try to pick up a cheaper/cooler case. From the post above on Tomshardware, it seems the Gigabyte is probably my best bet
 
I recommend the Corsair 400R or 500R as well. I'd go with the eVGA GTX 670 myself.

Why would you go with the evga? It seems the Gigabytes cooling to be superior, and comes pre-OC, and has room to grow. Is the evga slightly faster?

Here's the problem: Although the Gigabyte's cooler is technically better, it is actually more harmful to the rest of the system: Instead of venting heat from the GPU to the outside of the case, the heat from the GPU will instead be pushed back into the rest of the system, which will result in higher temperatures inside the system's case itself (and thus higher temperatures for the CPU). And excessive heat is very detrimental to the useful life of the components. In a case with relatively poor air circulation and relatively poor airflow, it may force you to severely underclock the CPU to as slow as a fail-safe 1.6GHz just to keep temperatures from going too high.

thanks for the explanation. how does the evga route it out of the system? is the exhaust vent near the back of the card or something?

also, what would you recommend for a good ventilated case (preferably with a window)

On that eVGA, there are exhaust vent(s) on the back of the card.
