Hey guys building a computer for my sister, she doesn't do much basic surfing and her kid might like some gaming nothing too serious.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Web browsing and some gaming
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$700-800 For parts I'll paying the shipping outside of that.
3) Where do you live?

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

Nothing special though I've always loved Asus boards so a good basic one.

Also, define "some gaming".
 
Well Let's say a 20" Monitor, and some games meaning, the web based games and low end store bought, nothing close to Call of Duty:MW2 status.
 
For the kind of usage scenario you described, you're better off with a prebuilt.

Also. did you also need a HDD and DVD burner as well? That was missing from questions 4 and 5. In addition, which 64bit OS do you have available.
 
No no need for a HDD or DVD drive. And yeah I thought about a prebuilt. But I'd still like too see a rough list of part if ya'll could make one.

The above setup should be more than enough for the light usage you described. Hell you technically don't need the video card since most flash games aren't that 3D heavy.

Why do you need a floppy drive?

Since you're not overclocking, stick with the stock HSF.
 
Floppy drive? Get with the times, man.

You can now get a decent 4GB thumb drive for $10 and take it just about everywhere.

save money on shipping, just go to CompUSA on OBT, they have plenty of the USB Floppy's last time I was there, that way you can still have a floppy, get it local, and save on shipping, stuff like that is usually cheap at CompUSA......just my idea on this, though if an internal is needed, not sure if theve got one.

Thanks to B-Sal and Danny Bui for the full builds. I run them over with her and see which one she prefers. If anyone else wants to put in a 3rd feel free. I like to have about 3 options when building so i can mix and match if I want.

I wouldn't go for B-Sal's build at all TBH:
- The Core i5 650 is a dual-core CPU. Not worth the money at all at $180 since you can get a quad-core CPU in that price range (Core i5 750 or Phenom II 955 BE). In this day and age, it would be foolhardy to spend $180 on a dual-core CPU

- The Cosair 550VX, while good, is overpriced. You can get far better and.or far larger PSUs for the same or lower price:
$65 - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W PSU
$75 - Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W PSU

- The Coolermaster case does not come with any fans but uses 90mm fans. So that's additional costs for that case.
 
Thank you Danny for the incite I did overlook the extra fan cost. She does particularly like your build I'll post if I need any other suggestions.

This is with no offense to danny Bui, He's probably right right with the cpu, I was just thinking that you said she would only surf the web and game lightly when I made the decision. I chose the corsair PSU unit mainly because of my own experience with them, they are a great company with great customer support, I am very satisfied with their products. and I did say the case was really your own decision. So have fun with the build, and I hope all goes well. And thanks danny, for picking up that detail with the cpu, You are probably saving this man some money in the future.
