Buggiest games ever thread! List them.....

Well even though Counter-Strike inst buggy, STEAM is :(

HOW many times hasnt it let me join a server  HOW many times hasnt my stupid steam id beed authenticated, AND TODAY it said my computer doesnt suppot OpenGL WTF! *(restarts comp)*

Try reinstalling your video card drivers. My friend had that problem and that fixed it.

I would have to say BF:2 or Driv3r. In Driv3r, you could just driver through the buildings in some levels and into the abyss. :p

If MMOs count then Shadowbane wins all...

at least shadowbane worked on release

with AO they forgot to put in the key's/guy to get out of the friggin noob garden, there were 500 people in the damn noob garden, after they got that fixed their mission generator didn't work AT ALL, their key prize that they bragged about for months on end that would seperate them from other MMO's, and it didn't even work for 3+ months after release, not to mention half abilities were bugy and either didn't work or had instant refreshes

that game was a mess

QFT

but I would also like to add

Tribes 2
Bloodlines
Boiling Point
Battlefield 1942

and

DEUS EX 2

lol , i forgot boiling point , its near WW2online .

I going to go with Bet On Soldier. The damn thing would actually re-boot my computer when it loaded the first mission. I tried everything and still did the same thing at the same point.

Frontier: First Encounters from the Elite series. There was even a lawsuit involved between Braben (developer) and the publisher because of incomplete state of the game at release time.

Ha the reason you had problems with that game is because it uses Starforce Protection. Starforce is only the worst thing ever made for computers. Im sorry but you dont need 0-ring security access you damn lame game.

Tribes 2.

It was a horrible mess, and actually had a patch recalled, because the patch broke more than it fixed.

True that, I was getting into the game at a friends LAN, so the first game I picked up when I got back to the US was Generals. It was great playing a 2v2 game online and ending up playing with a bot for a partner, since the game doesn't tell you when anyone leaves. What a waste of money.

Ummm... In CnC Generals, it DOES tell you when a friend leaves (press tab, and it will say either playing or AWOL next to everyone's name) and it NEVER has a bot fill in for your partner, EVER. If your friend leaves you either get their units or resources, or you are simply left alone and your teammates stuff blows up and disappears.

I have not had any problems at all with CnC :G or Zero Hour, and I have been playing both games online since the day they hit the store shelves.

Tomb raider AOD...
I was simply climbing a stair when suddenly Lara went FLYING!!!!
she got out of the screen and never came back...
:(

That FEAR demo was unbelievable, thank god the release was ok.
Try Painkiller Battle out of Hell sometime. That was so buggy I sprayed it with RAID.

starfleet command 3 ... had so much potential but it was very buggy ...

Its already been mentioned but Anarchy Online. It was so bad at launch and for the next several months that they killed any chance of being a contender in the mmorpg arena. Funcom kept plugging along and made it into something playable, but they never recovered from that horrible launch.

I refuse to play another EA game after all their shenanigans I don't want to list because it just makes me mad =\. I sold every EA game I had, and washed my hands of them. EA can like, suck ma bawls.

The first vampire game (masquerade) was far far worse than anything ive ever played. Like the op said, you couldnt actually get past a certain point without a patch. There were so many horrible glitches with it, it was downright ridiculous. Also, don't forget ultima 9. That one had some...issues, including a game engine that crawled to 5 fps on most machines of the day. A lot of people here have really short memories- cmon, we can go farther back than battlefield 2 :)

SWG all the way.
Oh, here here. You really had to play this one to truly appreciate what a piece of shit it was in terms of patches introducting bugs. Every patch since the beginning broke something else, every time without fail. There were still bugs from it's first few months in the game as recent as 3 months ago when I stopped playing.

I also gave up on black and white. Hated the bugs, hated the controls even more. Throw the rock by making idotic gestures with your mouse, then cuss.

Ultima IX stands out in my mind.

I'm such a fan of the Ultima series (I bought the U9 Dragon Edition) and it was such a shame that Origin sold out to EA. That was the worst thing to ever happen to a dev company. I remember getting just about any Origin title back in the day and it was more or less glitch free. It must have been a real heartbreaker for Garriott to have the EA suits above him pumping all the resources into that U:O waste of time and away from U9. I would love to see Garriott and NCSoft buy back the rights to Ultima and remake U9 and finish Project "X".

[edit]
For those of you out there that still are or wanting to play this game:
Official patch 1.18f

Unofficial patch 1.19f

Misc updates

Metroid Prime for Gamecube, locked up on me quite a few times, which is unacceptable for a console game, I remember having to do one section a good 20+ times because the game would consitantly lock up on the same elevator. Was still a great game though.
Thank god I thought I was the only one who noticed how buggy Metriod Prime was for GC.

Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines was really buggy, as others have mentioned, I had to manually load the next level as it wouldn't go past a certain point. I cannot imagine how that got through testing.

But the game is so much fun it was forgiveable. Despite the bugs, it was one of the best games of that year (IMHO, and I know not everyone will agree :) )

One of Troika's other games (Temple of Elemental Evil) was incredibly buggy too, I guess this was their "thing". They closed down now though :/

Vampire Masquerades was a very fun game though. I remember beating it, even if it required me to install a special patch because it was so broken. Troika = RIP

In addition to Bloodlines, the original Vampire the Masquerade (Redemption) game was pretty buggy, too. At the time, AMD based VIA chipsets would crash like they were on a timer. Activision tried to blame it on any number of things, but there never was a true "fix."
There was several endless money exploits, areas that could get you perma-stuck, and general issues.

In terms of worst ever, I still stand by Big Rigs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Rigs

Extreme Paintbrawl was one of the worst games I ever played. But I still played it a lot haha.

They don't get much buggier. Unless you count count css. Anyone remember Diablo II getting a patch instantly to fix a bug that wouldn't let you progress?

The absolute worst, buggiest piece of crap I've ever seen to this day. Absolutely terrible.

#2 goes to Pool of Radiance. What a piece.

Someone already mentioned Outpost, but I didn't see anyone mention the Holy Grail of buggy games, Battlecruiser 3000.

DEREK SMART
DEREK SMART

EA's damned lucky that BF2 wasn't as plain unplayable out of the box as BC3000 was.

Unplayable how?

As in,

if you had no internet connection, or were unknowledgable in setting up your system files and autoexec.bat files or manually installing patches, it was an infamous crash-fest.

One of the MechWarrior games published by Activision, needed a patch, 30MB one at that, when downloading that size file was a big deal, for anyone to be able to play the game, period. Not advance, not play advanced levels, just PLAY the game out of the box. Needless to say, some heads rolled in QC :)

I heard pretty bad things about Battlecruiser 3000 AD. I know how people say BF2 is buggy but face it, there are a ton of people who play that game and every game has its percentages. The more people play it, the more likely you will hear about it. So I figure a lot of little known games get their takes on bugginess.
