I think my psu is starting to crap out... I currently have a 380W Antec TruePower in my Sonata case.. Here are my specs

AMD A64 3000+ (stock speed)
Foxconn NF4UK8AA mobo
2 x 512 mb pc3200 corsair value
1 nec dvd burner
1 ati x700
2 x 500gig hard drives
Floppy.

Something that doesn't kill my budget would be great. Thanks

Corsair CMPSU-450VX should be good for you. ClubIT has it for 70.89 (before shipping). mwave has it for 75 before shipping.

he doesnt need anything like that. xclio 500w is more than enough and cheaper.

The Corsair is a much better unit, that has less power than the xclio and is more efficient, and you recommend the xclio that is the same price, less efficient, and more power? :p :p

I'm not a big fan of FSP just because they are not consistent with their PSUs. You can read a bit on that in this thread. Oklahoma Wolf won't condemn all FSPs, but he is leary of them, as is Paul is.

Yeah... I do have some issues with their lower end units, like the use of Fuhjyyu or Jamicon caps in some of them, but they just don't seem to have as high a failure rate as you'd think just looking at the parts used.

Personally, I don't consider a PSU that costs under $100 Canadian good enough for one of my rigs, no matter who built it. There's a reason low end low watt Zippy units still go for close to a hundred ;)

So how to you know what caps are in a PSU besides opening it up? Not all are reviewed by you guys (warranty voiders that is :p). Is it in the data sheets?

i also agree that the psu is the most important part of your system. I think spending 70 bucks on one isn't a problem. I will look into the corsair. Thanks

I forgot to put in my first post here, the mwave one does have a $10 MIR, so that would come down to $65 before shipping. I wouldn't doubt that shipping would be about $10, so $75 total. Not bad for a great PSU. ClubIT's shipping was flat rated at $9.

someone is selling this ps for 65 bucks shipped. NIB. Should I got for this one or just for the Corsair?

NIB- Enermax FMA II EG565P-VE FMA 535W SLI PSU

Dual 22A +12v rails, 32A +5v rail, 32A +3.3v rail, dual fan w/ speed control

You don't, often. You just sort of guess based on past experience with a particular OEM.

FSP for example has used Fuhjyyu and Jamicon on the low end, OST and Capxon in the middle, and Teapo on the high end. My retired FSP530-60PNA is an all Teapo affair for example.

CWT used to rely heavily on Fuhjyyu... now they're mostly Samxon (a big improvement I might add) until you get to the high end stuff where you find the big Japanese names in them.

Others play roulette with cap selection... it gets worse as price goes down and the OEM looks to cut corners everywhere possible. Open up a low end Deer for example and you'll find anything from knockoffs of the Japanese brands (Rulycon) to names nobody's ever heard of before. I opened up two Powmax units today and found Chmec and TEC caps in those things.

I had that Enermax model and it was dead several days after I installed. The replacement model worked well enough. However by the way they were stacked up at Fry's there had been several returns. The QC on this Enermax model could have been better.
