Haven't followed new hardware in a while. Have been trying to hold off upgrading for as long as possible since I hadn't seen much reason for it. Anyways, long story short my CPU can't handle running at 2.75ghz anymore, is giving me trouble even at 2.5ghz and my memory has always sucked quite badly so I would like to upgrade to something with a little more power. I'd like to do it on the cheap, since I'm not as much of an enthusiast as I used to be

I'd still like decent gaming performance though since I'll probably buy one of the newer nvidia cards.

So far I've gathered that the E6750 is the best processor. What about motherboard and memory?
 
- What's your budget for the CPU, mobo and RAM altogether?
- What do you need in a mobo? RAID? More than 4 SATA ports? Legacy ports? etc,
- Do you plan on overclocking?
 
Right now, I'm looking at the same processor. The E6750 it looks like a nice general performer. Ontop of that the Abit IP35-E looks inexpensive, reliable and like a decent board.
 
I just picked up the e6750 last night actually.. I originally was going to get the q6600, but it seems the 6750 is in that sweet spot of price/performance plus you can oc it up to 6850 speeds, which im hoping to do

I would like to OC as much as possible. Needs SLI though I'm probably going to upgrade to a single card once the 9xxx series are released. Doesn't need more than 4 sata ports. I don't have any cards other than SLI and my soundcard. i have a TV card I use on occasion but keep it out most of the time.

I'm not sure if my DVD drive is SATA compatible but thats not really a big deal otherwise so I'm not sure about legacy ports.

I'm not sure what my total budget would be. Under $700 but much cheaper if possible.
