Hey

Well my A64 is getting a little long in the tooth... so I'm thinking of doing a upgrade.

I mainly do this: Photoshop, Bridge (browsing through hundreds of 4MP raw files). Not much else. Maybe light gaming once in a while.

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 $65.00

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB SATA2 $104.65

Galaxy KFA2 GeForce 9600GT OC $153.12

Liteon LH-20A1S DVD+RW 20X8X16 DVD-RW $28.62

Antec Sonata III w/500W Earthwatts $98.88

Mushkin SP PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-18 $74.20

Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L ATX LGA775 P35 $90.25

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 $33.48

So that's already $650 plus tax. I'm considering browsing the forums for a cheaper video card (think I can get something decent for like $50-75?).

Will that E2160 scale to 3GHz with the current components? Will the 500W Earthwatts PSU be sufficient? Also the DDR2-800?

Cheers

That E2160 should hit around 3Ghz, but I would recommend getting a 2180, since there isn't much of a price difference ($5). You probably won't get much of a video card for $75 but it never hurts to check the FS/FT section and see what's there. The PSU should be plenty of power, and that RAM will take you up to 400FSB which should be plenty for that chip.

Yeah I originally wanted a E2180 but it is out of stock....

definitely get the cpu from microcenter. They have the 2180 for $60 if you want it. Look in the Hot Deals section for a videocard. There were some GSO cards (don't remember if they were 8800 or 9600) for about $100 that would be really close to that 9600GT for a lot less money

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I'm ordering within Canada to save on duties and headaches...

i'm thinking of downgrading to the Earthwatts 380W ... will that be insufficient for my overclocking?
