Hello,
One of my close friends asked me for a favor to choose a new PC for him. He still holds onto a low-end configuration from 2006, and IMO everything needs to be replaced. Just for information, this is his current system, at least as far as I remember it:
Some cheap case with no airflow at all, and a "350w" no-name PSU
AMD Sempron 2200+ 1.6GHz single-core
512MB DDR1 Ram (single channel)
ATI Radeon 9250 graphics card
WD Black 80GB HDD IDE
Some generic IDE CD burner
17" CRT monitor 1024x768
stereo speakers with 18W RMS
cheap headset, keyboard and mouse, IMO all garbage.
Well, I guess he finally listened to me when I kept telling him to donate it to a museum and get a new one so that he can play games with the rest of us (me and other friends). He's given me a budget of 3000 BGN (about 1500 euro), though he's not making much money so he'd like to save some if possible. So, I did a quick look at current prices and did a quick configuration for him, which IMO should let him enjoy games properly and also cost him a bit less:
Fractal Design Arc Mini R2
Fractal Design Tesla R2 500W
AsRock H81M
Intel Core i5-4430
2x4GB Geil Evo Leggera CL9
120GB Samsung 840 Evo
Seagate 1TB ST1000DM003
Gigabyte Windforce R9 270x 2GB
Asus Xonar DGX (better sound card)
LG GH24NSB0 (SATA DVD burner)
LG 27EA73LM-P (27" AH-IPS monitor)
A4Tech G800V (MMO keyboard)
Logitech G100s (I hear it's a great mouse for its price)
Logitech G240 (matched mouse pad)
Logitech Z506 (5.1 75W RMS speakers)
SteelSeries Siberia V2 (much better headphones than his, though no mic, suggestions?)
2600 BGN (1300 euro) so far. So my question is, is this configuration well balanced, and can the price be trimmed down lower somehow without any noticable loss of performance?
P.S. Forgot to mention, I'm pretty sure he will not be upgrading it, since he didn't upgrade his current PC even once. So no need to be upgradable, just to keep working for another 8 or so years with no problems.
