ok im building a budget pc i have these processors to pick from i will be ocing to 3.0ghz.
E4500 E6550 E6750 E4600 Why is the E6750 cheaper then the E6600 before i had a build E6600 with the old 8800gt 320mb i was very happy with it. Now i sold that build a couple months ago, and want to get a cheap 700 dollor pc. I came to conclusion of these cpus to fit in my budget. Also the heatsink im getting is this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003
I went on frosty tech and they say this is better then the thermalright 120 and tenq tower, wanted to hear if any you guys oc with this thing and how it turned out. Thanks for the help in advance.

I've got an E4500 that I OCed to 3GHz on a stock Intel cooler with only a .06 vcore increase. I could easily go higher, but leaving it at 3GHz becuase i'm on the stock cooler, heck, I'm not even using AS5, just the waxy substance that was already on there.

my E2160 walls out at 375 Mhz ~3.0Ghz. Stock volts prime stable though.

I'm running an E2140 at 3.2 GHz. Really any Core 2 Duo chip will overclock great and be a good buy.

i have a e2140 that does 3600 prime easy :D gonna test it alot more when 2stage cascade arrives :)

one of the e2xxx series will do well, if you overclock it, but the still perform well at stock.

what cooler do u guys suggest, and mobo i was going with p5e 650i sli cuz i heard that ocs realllll well with that cpu u think the 8800gs wont get bottlenecked at 3.0ghz?

I think you should reconsider the nVidia chipset in favor of an Intel P35 unless you plan on going SLI.

how come? I thought the P35 chipset's supposed to be great ... vs. nV's having mixed performance w/newer C2Ds

P35 is great, let me clarify.

He should reconsider his choice on choosing the nVidia chipset and instead get the P35 ;)

the e2xxx's value is beaten only by a q6600, which is well within reach with a $700 budget (unless you're located outside the U.S.)

IMO, anything more than a freezer 7 pro on a e2 chip is overkill, you may find a better HSF for cheaper, on sale, but w/e you wanna do
the highest I can get my 2180 is 58*, that's under a geminII, but I do have a cm690 w/ 6 120mm fans in it
I've heard good stuff about xigmatek, never tried one myself thought, one point to make is that it only has 3 pipes, vs TRU's 4 and TRUE's 6

e2160, or e2140 if you can find it. I have an s1283, keeps my q6600@3.6G, 1.290v at 63 degrees loaded. I don't have the thermalright to compare though.

I think the AC Freezer 7 Pro is a great cooler for pretty much any application. The Rosewill or Coolermaster variants should cool almost as well and be maybe a little cheaper. If you spend more than $20 cooling the CPU you're spending too much to get to 3Ghz as a stock cooler will probably do it.

E21x0 series offer unbetable performance to cash ratio.
And seriously can you even find aplication that will run too slow on e2160@ 3 Ghz ?

Weeell...the only thing I notice is that when you have 100% load with the E2160 on both cores, you pretty much can't do anything else in Windows (e.g. when encoding a DVD, browsing is very, very slow), which wasn't the case when I encoded DVD's with my Q6600 both running 3Ghz. But that's nitpicking as the one is $200 cheaper ;).

For everything else though, the E2160 is great. I notice no significant differences over my old Q6600. Obviously, it's not going to be as fast at encoding, but Windows XP is just as responsive.

Because when i had my q6600 i could minmize from cs:source for hours while it playing in a 50 man death match wont feel any slowness i would even run that, and crysis WoW ect at the same time, can i do this?

Probably not, but really... What's the point?

I'm a huge advocate of quad cores, but that's kind of a lame and unnecessary scenario.

i just ordered a e2180 from buy.com. it was 72$ off the bat, then taxes and shipping and the 5% off coupon got it to 81$ shipped.

Yes, if you have Microcenter or shop from them the E2160 is only 69.99 or 59.99 i forgot.

Lucky. I recently got a e4500 with Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, and I'm stuck at 3.1ghz at 1.29 vcore, due to high temps.

That is interesting. I'm at 1.38v with the intel cooler and don't have any issues with temps.
