OK, I posted about overclocking last night, with my specs:

Thermaltake Armor LCS Liquid Cooling System
Asus P5N32-E SLI Motherboard BIOS 1201
X6800 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
2GB Team Xtreme PC-6400 800mhz RAM
BFG 8800 GTX Ultra OC Video Card
Soundblaster X-FI Xtreme Music PCI Soundcard
Ageia PhysX 128MB PCI card
Windows Vista Ultimate x86 with all updates

I'm having some real troubles, I read the GUIDE on THIS website that someone recommended that I read....well I managed NOT to overclock my system, but to get BSODs numerous times, had to repair windows startup, and reset all bios to stock in order to boot up to post this message.....and oblivion is constantly crashing (the only game I wish to play right now)

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE!!! help me and provide some approximate stable numbers to work with, reading the guide, and tinkering around, and rebooting and testing has only caused more problems. What I need, is someone with some experience to provide me with some stable figures for below, that can at least work with.

Below is settings currently at STOCK.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! :D

soo.. ur system is crashing on stock speeds?
if this is so .. this could be a variety of problems..

1. memory is faulty - (run memtest, let it run for atleast 5 passes)
2. vidcard is faulty - (swap it out w/ another one)
3. PSU is failing - (try easing the load by taking out components - or if you have an extra PSU around... put it in and give it a go. I see you have a pretty beast of a system.. hopefully you have a matching power supply to keep up.)
4. Driver issues - (this one happened to me - just make sure all the drivers are up to date... including the vidcard one... and make sure you have legit drivers... I've read before that some third party drivers if you forget to clean out etc.. can cause reboots).

the top four are the most likely problems causing the BSOD. next to each I presented a way to test the problem. The trick to troubleshooting is to isolate the problem... so start simple... and find out what exactly is the problem.

Good luck.

No No it's not crashing now....sorry I wasn't more specific.

it crashes as explained above whenever I change anything beyond stock speeds / voltages / FSB speeds / settings etc.

- Oblivion Crashes (to the desktop)
- Windows won't load, BSODs.
- Videos won't play
- 3Dmark06 won't complete, causes BSODs.

General system instability whenever I attempt to overclock. the above specs are what I posted so everyone could give some suggestions on how to achieve a stable OC.

Thanks for your reply!

Anyone else have any advice?! :D

It could just be that your memory or CPU just doesn't overclock well.

Soundblaster X-FI Xtreme Music PCI Soundcard
Ageia PhysX 128MB PCI card

Have you removed those cards and tried to OC ? That would be my first move. If the problem goes away, try one card at a time to discover which is the culprit. Sometimes is its as werid as just swapping the slots they are in, But anyway I would get them out of the system to eliminate variables.

Update:

I just installed 2GB of Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 1066mhz memory that I ordered and ditched the Team Xtreme ram. I'm going to try to OC with this RAM/CPU combination and see how it works out.......

Yes I have tried 2T...that is what works.

I now have installed Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 RAM....seems to be fine.

Is what I need, is someone with experience in overclocking this board and CPU combination.....whats happening is I don't know enough about the speeds/voltages....and I DONT want to read anymore guides, because I'm afraid to "TINKER" around anymore in case I fry/wreck something.

Is anyone willing to provide me with some figures / numbers to go by as a starting base?

P.S new problem also, Windows Vista 32bit, sometimes won't enter sleep mode, and sometimes won't resume from sleep mode, well it does, but the monitor just stays black. have to shut down and power back up.

One piece of advice I'll give ya ;

Write down exactly what the bluescreens say. That error message can help narrow down the problem. Also , check your event viewer to see if the error is being reported there.
