Broken x1950 Pro?

Hello.

I bought a used x1950 pro off ebay. User had a perfect rating and alot of them so seemed like a safe deal.

Anyway. I tried installing XP with this card in but at the device detection part the screen went black and the x1950 fan started going fast.

I installed xp with my old card then switched to the x1950. I got into windows and managed to install the drivers and after the restart same thing happened. I also get some weird colors when i enter Bios.

I think it could be a power issue but i have a 500w PSU, but it is a few years old by now. Anyone know anything about this please?
 
You may have a 500W psu, but what brand is it? What are its specs? Does it provide enough power to the 12V rail(s) to power the 1950pro?

Hope you won't get a dud :\
 
Ok i checked the PSU and from what i can tell there is only 18 amps going to 12v and the card needs 30 it says on the box. Is that my problem then?
 
U might have a bad card............who makes it?

I have a mATX case with a 350W PSU running the following setup...The case is an InWin model with thier PSU

Core 2 Duo oc from 2,3Ghz to 3.0Ghz
4GB ram
Foxconn G33-M
SB Audigy 2
WDC 500GB drive (RE2)
DVD Drive
DVD Burner
started with a 1950 Pro, replaced with a 3870 and the system runs just fine.

Next a 4870 is going in there
