British Airways is taking customer service to a new level and raising a few eyebrows in doing so. The airline will be using Google to put an image with the passenger as well as other personal information to create a personal dossier allowing airline staff to better serve the customer.

"We’re essentially trying to recreate the feeling of recognition you get in a favorite restaurant when you’re welcomed there, but in our case it will be delivered by thousands of staff to millions of customers."

Glad it is in the opt-in phase, they can address me as Sir and keep their noses in their own business and out of mine.
Glad I don't fly anymore too.

In the future... the internet will be wired into your nerves and when you see any person, anywhere, they will be automatically recognized and all of their personal information will appear in your line of vision without even needing to wear glasses.

Feels marginally creepy.

It's nothing new. For years, Google has been saying that they only watch and record everything you do a everything you think so they can serve you better. The airlines may as well at least admit they're doing it too and put a positive "opt in" spin on it so they can make it seem like they're just trying to make being jammed into a coach class seat between two 700 lb men who haven't bathed in two days a more tailored and fun flying experience.

I don't get some Google employee talking to me over a counter like "hey buddy, how's it going? Did your wife like the flowers you sent her?"

Dude, if I don't know you, I don't want you to pretend you know me. I can tell the difference.

What about the people who are natural cyphers and do not show up in google searches?

Was wondering this same thing. Also, how are they sure that "Generic Name" is the real "Generic Name" who will be flying on their airlines.

They're already fondling my crotch at the airport, how much more invasive can it get?

I think I should put it out there that I love being fondle by hot stewardess, just on the off chance that I fly with British Airways someday.

Damn...you must be hard up dude. But hey, if that's the only way you can get someone to touch you there, go for it. :D

how about they just fly me from A to B which is what I want if I buy a ticket. that's all the serving I need.

I don't want this feeling when I am traveling. I want to travel fro point A to B with a minimum of hassle and interaction. FWIW, I don't want the feeling of recognition in a restaurant either, I just want good service.

Welcome aboard Mr. Smith, I see you enjoy LOLCATS and german feces porn and have placed that material on your chair for your enjoyment.

That's why I fly with Virgin Airways, they know what I would want on a flight without having to google me, free entertainment, and my own personal screen...in every seat.
