Brisbane or Windsor?

I'm thinking of upgrading from my intel socket 478, and would like to try AMD this time. Is Brisbane the way to go, or is it inferior to the windsor core? I'm also still debating amd vs. intel a bit, so feel free to give some reasons why I should go amd, besides green being better than blue :rolleyes: :(
 
conroe is still better than anything AMD has to offer so far price wise and performance wise.
 
the only reason that i can come up with is that the 3600+ X2 for like $100 and they are said to OC well.... so unless you are going to get dual 8800gtxs and you are going for a good rig that can play games and perform well and keep the price down i would go with a brisbane 3600 AM2

also HTPC mATX boards are much better with Nforce4 6150 chipsets which are AMD only...
 
Well If you must go AMD Brisbane. They are O/Cing a bit better and need less voltage. Go for a low end 3600 or 4000 and hit 3.0GHZ and wait for Quad Cores.
 
would a 4000+ or whatever end up with the same overclock at the 3600+? whats the best decent, stable,non-sli,and affordable motherboard to pair with a AM2 chip?
 
make sure and get bios updates for that asus. its not a great OCer out of the box, but its doing okay for me now (see sig)

That is not true when a X2 3600+ costs $100 and the top of the line AM2's cost from $400 to $500 and out perform a X6800 for performance from price. A FX-62 flagship dual core processor costs $400 on AM2. Care to spend $999 on the same performance of a X2 6000+ for $500?

Thats just silly to go intel when there are better solutions for half the price. A E6300 is just a reduculess price and for a decent mobo you need $150 plus $187 for the cpu. When you can get a great AMD board for $70 $80 bucks thats very nice.
 
Well I would get the 4000 if you can B/C the slightly higher multi. But It seems the older NF4 mobo's are doing better. DFI has a cheap AM2 NF4 mobo that O/C's like a monster. Thats what I love bout AMD boards, they can cheap as all hell and still O/C like monsters.:)

Yup I agree. If you are on a buget, I much rather take a X2 3600 and a better gpu than a 6300 and lower end gpu. Not everyone just runs benchmarks some play games too. But In most benchmarks the X6800 beats the FX-62. K8 tech is getting long in tooth, but it served amd very well fore how long its been in service.
 
The Biostar T-force series has been a great budget option from socket 754 to 939 to AM2 for cheap, stable, AMD overclocks. I have 3 of the micro-atx 6100 biostars and the full ATX Tforce 939 and they're all rock solid. There is a 6100 and NF550 version for AM2 both with good reviews.

For some there's intel... For other's There's AMD.

Seriously I just can justify spending $175 for a good intel mobo and $200+ for a low end dual core intel chip... When I can save by going brisbane and wait for quad core.
Or better yet wait til intel prices drop.

If you consider going brisbane... Don't get the Tforce 550.. some boards have trouble hitting over 250 fsb.. and the audio doesnt work in vista. They have driver updates but they dont work right. Get a different mobo you'll be happier.
 
At Newegg, the only way you can get the 3600+ is bundled with a TForce 550 board ($170 or so shipped for the bundle). At least that's the 2x512k version as opposed to the 2x256k version.

The bundle is a great deal if you need a mobo too since that's one of the top OCing budget boards available. CPU + mobo + low priced HSF that's better than stock is about $180 shipped. I got the Rosewill RCX-Z1 HSF which got great reviews for the price. Overall you get a $24 discount for the combo so even adding the HSF you end up ahead.
 
right now i have a p4 prescott 3.4 @3.7, 2gig ddr, 7800gs agp all on a abit ai7 board. If I'm going to upgrade, i want it to be a big difference. The only games I really play are EvE Online and the upcoming Supreme Commander. EvE is heavily cpu intensive for one thing. SC depends on cpu and gpu it seems.
If i were to get a c2d mobo, it would be a $150 asus. I'd like to go with asus with either amd or intel, and i think the m2n is $99,which seems inexpensive to me, and its asus, which seems like a quality brand. I'd also like to overclock, and dont reallly want the 3600+ due to the chance that it doesnt oc well.I do appreciate all your responses to my predicament.
