Brink, thoughts?

Yeah, but I've noticed several times that some players are not really focused on team play. They're just there for the k/d ratio which is exactly what Brink doesn't reward...I really appreciate that Splash Damage keeps promoting this genre (which effectively only they promote), basically because it's the only multiplayer aspect I like (team play), but I think the majority just doesn't get into it. Same thing happened with Quake Wars, but Brink makes some things much more clear and easy to get into. Here's hoping that that changes something.

This is inevitably what cools my heels on a lot of online gaming.

I've had a few good runs with this but I've also been on a number of runs where, for example, no one even bothered to be an engineer or mechanic so I knew if I died just to immediately hit the respawn option and you could forget about getting certain tasks done. Other times I could see two medics run right by me and do nothing. That's worthless.

No team work. No cohesion. No nothing.

I think playing BC2 has spoiled me in that regard. I play on good servers there and rarely if ever see that kind of nonsense to such a degree like I'm seeing in this.

It's one of a number of things that makes me doubt this game's long term prospects.

With Quake Wars, it started more or less like that, but the community (even though not very big) was for the most part, phenomenal. I had the best games ever in some of the campaigns. The teams were so balanced that winning would only happen in the last seconds of each map. Everyone had the sense of which class and how of many of them, each map needed for either offense or defense. I've seen that already in Brink. I'd wager that those are fans of Quake Wars trying something new (more or less like me).

The medics thing you mentioned happens all the time. Some do it when they are being fired upon, which obviously makes sense. They have to preserve themselves first and only then can they save anyone else. But others really don't seem to get what a medic is for.

I don't understand - I'm having terrible lag problems. This occurs only in Brink. Is this not an issue for everyone? It makes multiplayer too frustrating to really enjoy..

No problems on my end. Are you absolutely sure nothing is wrong with your connection ? (for example reaching download speeds very close to the maximum the connection allows, hurts your upload speed too)
Also, does it happen in all servers you tried ?

I think this can be attributed to CoD and their emphasis on K/D ratios. I don't remember CS being so focused on K/D but it has been years since I fired it up. Maybe it was because I played with a close group of friends back in the day but I remember MP and Co-Op games being focused on teamwork for success. CoD and why the game bores me so much is that it seems to reward individual work rather than team work. If Brink is fleshing out the bugs and is focused on team work as much as it seems then I'll probably pick it up if anything to support a developer who is trying to break the mold.

That's the problem with people these days...always depending on other people. Teaimwork.

Ordered a copy of Amazon today for $20. I figured it was worth giving a shot at this price.

only a F2P model could save this from dying at this point

Would work extremely well for this game actually. I purchased it during the steam sale, played about 6 hours and returned it.

It's a fun game but there's just no one playing.

Time and time it's proven on HardForum how everything gets hyped so much over a release. And when somebody predict it's failure like almost every other game, people just get defensive and reasoning. Going back to first page of every topic of recent games is completely different story compared to the last dying pages. The transaction from "I pre-ordered, this game and it's going to be incredible yo! Best FPS ever!" to "Nobody is playing it any more". Why is that people feel the need to preorder something without a trial first, it doesn't make any sense to me?! I guess the next game on the big hype list is Battlefield 3 at the moment.

I've just checked a few threads with highly anticipated titles:
Brink
Crysis 2
Test Drive Unlimited 2
Need For Speed Hot Pursuit

Add homefront to that list..

This has to be arguably the biggest offender of something that had crazy potential and just feel flat.

I'm one of the apostates that actually likes Crysis 2 well enough on its own merits. ;)

The only time I preorder something is if I have NO doubts about it AND it fields me either a nice discount on a future purchase and/or cool goodies. Otherwise I don't bother.

Installed and played for a little while last night. It was fun, even in solo mode. Anyone else going to try out the DLC on Wed?

I still have it installed. Yeah, I'll take it for a spin.

I'll fully admit I haven't gotten very far into it, but it seems like there is much potential. I'll have to take advantage of that RAGE pre-order discount as well.

it's their last hope to revive this stillborn shooter, and everyone who paid good money for this owes it to themselves to check it out at some point.

it seems pretty arrogant to label this as a limited time dlc imo, should just be an official patch to boost value here. if the existing userbase didn't see enough in your launch to continue playing the base game, why would newcomers be interested in paying extra for it, doesn't really make sense. it's like a strongarm tactic to recoup on sales they didn't deserve, they're basically gambling on this one patch to make it appealing enough to sell, if it doesn't work out this will pretty much blow up in their face.

The game was fun, really team oriented. I only played solo and most of the servers I played in had at least some people working together.

This would make an excellent LAN game or something for a large group of buddies to play online.

I actually like it. Admittedly I haven't had much time to put into it, but it's fairly fun, and I've had no technical issues with it at all. I really only play games with friends though anyway, so I'll just have some of them pick it up when it's cheap, and we'll play it. I'll be giving the DLC a whirl. No reason not to at this point.

I remember there was a thread hyping the BF game over the next COD. Pre-sales are strong for battlefield so this hype may play out well.

BF is something that is known to be great, and there's TONS of gameplay footage an an actual alpha with upcoming beta.

I need to figure out some good keybinds for my Nostromo. The defaults just aren't cutting it. ;)

Free DLC is posting up on Steam and it's on the main Store page again.

I can't believe they didn't drop the price...to at least $39.99, but I think $29.99 + Free DLC would of brought players and that's all the need.

It's kinda sad TBH the game had loads of potential.

Havent really read much of this thread, but me and a buddy are thinking about picking it up. How the online community? Still kicking?

well i guess I found my answer.. Looks pretty dead... damn

It is fairly dead and never really went anywhere.

Sad as I was looking forward to it but it ran like crap on my computer when it came out.

Has anyone tested out the new content? I got it installed, but haven't had time to test it yet.

The thing about Brink is that it looked cool in most of the videos and demonstrations. It's also a pretty interesting concept.
I think it's just a matter of nobody realizing how little variety they'd incorporate into it.
It's the only pre-order I've ever made that wasn't for a bonus, and I doubt I'll ever do it again. They got lucky by releasing it during a dead period (for me at least) and I quit playing after a week.

Brink is one of the worst games that I have ever played. Up until recently it wasn't even in the top 50 or so most played games listed on Steam. The worst part is that most of the games listed in the most played games do not require Steam. That shitty ass game will be back to those numbers in no time.

I just played the first mission of campaign. Uninstalling :)

You realise that you just played the tutorial designed to familiarise yourself with MP, before 80% of the actual game content had been unlocked, before making up your mind?
