Brink and eyefinity

After spending some time with Google, I was unable to find a "yes, Brink officially supports Eyefinity" thread anywhere. So I dug in to the ET:QW commands and figured out how to make eyefinity work with Brink.

The downside::
There's always a downside. Brink has a hardcoded 30 FPS single player cap. Brink also does not support Crossfire currently. That means when you use eyefinity (landscape) res's such as 5760x1080, the framerate is all over the place (atleast it is on my 6870). The framerate will dip as low as 15 in places but averages around 26.

As far as Crossfire goes, apparently AMD is working on adding a profile to driver 11.6 (read elsewhere on these forums). Until then, my attempts using Radeon Pro were unfruitful.

The upside ::
You can still use all of your monitors. Here's how.

*** UPDATE ***
I packaged and uploaded my eyefinity program. You can get it Here.

1.) open Brink/base
2.) create a new file called Autoexec.cfg
3.) Paste the following in to the new file ::

Code:
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "-1"

seta r_customWidth "5760"
seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_customAspectRatioH "48"
seta r_customAspectRatioV "9"

seta g_fov "90"
seta g_swapinterval "1"

*Note*
If you JUST set the custom width and height, it looks horrible. The money shot is the ability to set a custom aspect ratio.

If you are using bezel compensation ::

Bezel compensation changed my desktop res, so I modified my config as follows to fit that ::

Code:
seta r_customWidth "6264"
seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_customAspectRatioH "29"
seta r_customAspectRatioV "5"

Notice that I changed the aspect ratio to suit the new custom width and height. Again, that's really the key.

Final thought ::
The game is actually kinda fun. It's a throw back to ETQW and I really liked that game too. Once the bugs are ironed out, this game will be worth the money spent on it. Let's just hope people don't get lazy.

I like the game. Dunno why it got so terrible reviews.

60 fps here via NV inspector. Had to turn off AO.

Hey,

I was wondering if there was a fix for crossfire. I put in the command line - seta r_useThreadedRenderer “2″ - but since the most recent patch it doesnt work anymore. I have eyefinity working etc, but like you said at 5760x1080 the FPS are all over the joint. I have everything else turned off. I would play with a single monitor till it was fixed, but I dont know how to get the game to only display on the one monitor. Most games shut down the other monitors, but brink mirrors the game on each monitor, and I dont know how to change it. Any suggestions? cheers.

Sounds like another asstastic game. We NEED Rage and Duke Forever, and they need to kick ass and be TRUE PC or I fear gaming will never return.

There's no way to make Crossfire work yet. Most of the "Crossfire workarounds" just rename the Brink.exe to ETQW.exe, and that makes the game crash.

Not sure about the threaded renderer. I see that patch 2 has been released to day, along with a nice little note.

"We would like to thank you for supporting Brink and for your continued feedback. To show our appreciation for your support of Brink, we will be making the first DLC for Brink available for free when it is released. This DLC is planned for June and will offer additional maps and new content for players. We’ll continue to provide announcements about the next title update, as well as the first DLC release as that information becomes available."

The only way I have been able to stop Brink from being mirrored on all 3 screens is to open Catalyst Control Center with Brink running and disable, then reenable the eyefinity display group. Brink will appear to be frozen but hit any key and wait a bit and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a go. Bit of a stuff around really, but if I get good FPS on a single monitor then I'll get back into multi. Cheers again.

I admit its a rather lame workaround buts it's all I've been able to come up with so far. I can't get it to look good at 5760x1200 so Im stuck doing this everytime I want to play. It only take a minute and seems to last until you restart the computer though.

I played Brink on eyefinity (6990) a few days ago but it wasn't worth it at 45 fps

Multiplayer doesn't have the lame 30fps cap. Many recommend hosting a server and playing that way to ditch the cap.

After some eyefinity experimentation I am unable to find a custom aspect ratio that doesn't look like complete ass at 5760x1200.

I'm stuck at 1920x1200.

Crossfire has not been an issue for me. The game has never given me any trouble with Crossfire enabled. Whether its using the 2nd card or not I don't know but honestly a single 6950 can more than handle this game at 1920x1200

Anyone find a better way to stop the mirroring effect across 3 monitors yet? The workaround I posted above its getting a little old. Even though it's quick to do, I'm sick of doing it and don't feel I should have to.
