Yes i know benchmarking the vertex is better...actually i was just going to say screw it and just return it and thats it but decided to get the cheaper agility as i have been reading in real world results they basically is no difference between the two.

My main reason for returning the vertex was the price i paid...$245, yes i know i could have waited for a much better deal but wanted it now figuring what the hell and did it anyway. Once i got it i was impressed, but also not impressed at the same time, everything was much snappier of course, but it just was not worth $250 so i returned it. After i reinstalled my 6400aaks i was more unimpressed, it basically felt the same. The only time the SSD seemed to make a difference was that first time you would open a program up, which i guess is the whole point of it but again the price/performance gain for $250 was not worth it.

Just bought the agility for $180 shipped with a $30 rebate and 6.5% bing cashback, so the end price will be about $140. I can live with that for the performance it will give me if it matches the vertex. Also just to add i probably did not give the vertex a long enough trial, i mean honestly it was in my system for about 3hrs at most and i probably only gave it a good hour and a half of usage after getting everything set up the way i wanted. I think the longer i would have used it the more impressed i would have been(especially going back to a mechanical)

Just wanted to share my story!

Interesting that you didn't notice an immediate difference in the performance after you put the 640GB back in. I've seen several people here say that going back to a mechanical HD as a boot drive after using an SSD is like night and day. As you said though, you didn't spend a lot of time with it. Perhaps the difference would have been more apparent if you had used the SSD for several days before switching back.

Good deal on the Agility, though. From what I've seen/read it is close to the Vertex...so you'll be getting similar performance for $100 less. Nothing wrong with that.

It's going to feel pretty similar if you aren't putting a heavy load on it. Drop a heavy workload (run a virus scan, install software, do a search, save a large document, open a large image that requires paging to disk) on the 6400aaks and the SSD and you'll feel a big difference when you hit the disk while its under load. SSDs remain responsive through almost anything, so you don't get those annoying lockups and stutters that platters have when they're busy.

If all you do is run word by itself, then yea... SSD isn't going to blow you away. If you have heavy disk activity at any point, SSD will blow you away.

well, will let you know if it makes a difference

getting mine today !

Mine comes in tomorrow, I know what to expect and for $150 AR it's worth it.

If you are running Windows 7 make sure to check the firmware or update to 1.4 with TRIM support. Here are my benchmarks before 1.4 firmware, and after 1.4 firmware:

cool< how do I upgrade the firmware? what did you have to do?

allen

( oh, and just slammed 2gb -2- 1gb sticks- transcend into my AMD machine, about 5 yrs old..runs much faster, had 750gb)

So basically you "rented" it to try it out & returned it.

Thanks for raising the price for everyone else.

I'm waiting, as I have the feeling with Black Friday we will be seeing slightly better prices after rebate. Otherwise, $140 for this drive is a really cool price.
