Hi there, Here are a few questions that I just can't seem to get a good definite answer.

Bottlenecking. Is it more of CPU? Video? Both?
And what is the bigger issue, Resolution, low resolution, etc.

so in general. What causes bottlenecking, and what are the general rules to avoid cpu/video/resolution/ bottlenecking.

Bottlenecking is when one component is notably slower than the others, so the overall speed of the machine is driven by that component. You can be either CPU or GPU bottlenecked, depending on components and what you are trying to do. So a dual core Celeron coupled with a GTX580 is bottlenecked by the CPU, while a 2600K coupled with a GTS450 is limited by the GPU.

Normally, however, you hear people talking about being CPU bottlenecked, since GPUs are usually the limiting factor for FPS in games. And it varies by resolution and by game - at low resolution the CPU is normally a bigger factor than at high resolutions.

Bottlenecks are caused when one or a few components hinder other components from realizing the maximum potential for the work being requested. The area of a bottleneck varies greatly; CPU and GPU are only two of the many possibilities. But again, the scope of work being requested is the more important piece to consider.

Very cool, ok, I doubt ill have any issues, but I will ask anyway.

2600K (not over clocked yet) + 570GTX = no bottleneck?
I will be using an Asus P8Z68-V Pro. with 8 gigs of ddr3 1600 and the monitor will be 1680 x 1050 (did not have money to update to 1920 x 1080)

so at my res, i should be ok, even if i crank up details and such right?

That is actually pretty badass setup. you should have no problems and it has no visable bottlenecks in gaming (yet)

That res is actually kind of optimal IMHO, if you're not an HD freak it saves tons on performance running at a lower res, as the higher you go though.... the more your video card will be the bottle neck.

2600k should last at least 3+ years, no problems

Thanks! Yeah i am really excited, i actually am getting to build a pc with everything i wanted.
Just 1 more ? I should be able to crank up AA, and AF, and all the "eye candy" with that setup and still have great fps correct. Let me give you a few games ill be playing

Rage, Borderlands, Fallout 3(and new stuff later) Oblivion, Skyrim, Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, and a few other FPS games. just wanted to make sure it should be golden.

I will be using the 2600K(maybe overclocking, why not with the K version right?) 8 gigs HyperX Kingston DDR 3 1600mhz ram. Asus P8Z68-V Pro mobo, 570 GTX, 750gig WD HD with 64mb 7200rpm hard drive, with Corsair H100 cooling in a HAF 932 case.

So yeah, im pretty happy, just wanted to make sure that i will be able to crank up the "eye candy" and still have great fps on my 1680 x 1050 res. :D thank you guys for your input.

The GTX 570 is ridiculously stupid overkill for that resolution. So yes you'll be able to turn up the eye candy.

Thank you guys. I appreciate all of this info. I will be getting it on monday so i cant wait to play rage LOL
