Yeah, they aren't, but they do play down there, and quite well. If you made a line-array (I think that's what that's called) system (speaker pair) out of just them, they would have an amazing speed in the bass department, they would be able to play low and loudly. What I mean by "system" is that there would probably be about 32 drivers per speaker.

I couldn't tell you about the 560, but I dont love the 680 and I wouldn't shower it with praise. Its loud and boomy. It is very difficult to adjust it to get a smooth response across the frequency range without something being out of place. First it was the bass that wouldn't calm down, then the highs just plain up and disappeared. There's nothing melodic or matched about that sub compared to the rest of the system.
I think there's a lot of better ways to get surround sound but that's just me. For $500 Onkyo has an excellent surround receiver with all the speakers you need. It doesn't list as high a power output as the 680 but its going to sound louder and cleaner. Hell if I believed Logitech saying 500W it would destroy the $3000 system in the other room. It can't come close.

Emorphien, you remind me of the guys at the www.arstechnica.com open forum who say that Axiom, Onkyo and Polka are more cost effective than computer speakers and that BOSE is even worse than computer speakers. Well the arsopenforum absolutely despise multimedia speakers and BOSE, but emorphien is the only person from the hardforum that has the same opinion.
I don't despise mulimedia/computer speaker kits as a whole, however I don't think the 680 is worth the price. There's a lot of simpler, less expensive ones that do more than what most people want.
Once you get up to the 680 I find the computer speaker sets are beginning to be less ideal than a small home theaker kit.
There's something to be said however for the power output of Logitech, and that's that however they're measuring it, it's not the same as H/K, Denon or Onkyo. H/K will sell a receiver with 50w per channel and it will blow a sony receiver with over 100w/channel out of the water. Independent amps and better components are part of what makes this so. Also, amps in the sub, unless they're very well shielded (the logitech sub isn't shielded as well as I'd like) is a nono.

Well the z-560 is much cheaper than the z-680. According to Gamingin3d.com the z-560 only has a 100 watt subwoofer instead of 188 watts which was specified by logitech, and they only have 15 watt satellites instead of 53 watt satellites. .
. The z-680 is $500 AUD and the z-560 is $350 AUD so I think that the z-560 is worth it.

This has been discussed in threads multiple times before. I don't believe GI3D was the first to disassemble a set of 560's either.
The actual power rating of the drivers used in multimedia speakers (Klipsch, Logitech, CSW/Creative. Altec, etc.) is considerably below what the companies specify.
Dansdata in particular has examined what amplifier ICs (6 ST TDA7293's rated at 50 watts with 0.1% THD each) are used in the 560's and what the power supply transformer of the Z-560s is actually capable of delivering to the amp ICs (probably less than 300VA).
This coupled with the power ratings printed on the drivers themselves (15W for satellites and 100W for the sub) make a good case that the continuous power output is probably closer to 160Watts, maybe less.
I wouldnt expect Logitech, Altec or Klipsch would be likely to send Dan any speakers in the future
Of course, the actual SPLs generated by the system are at least as important as the power output numbers. More important in my mind, since efficiency varies considerably.
The KlipsHorn uber-expensive traditional horn-loaded Real Speakers mentioned earlier in the thread can make you flee the room with 10 watts of power each. 104dB with 1 Watt at 1 meter.
Still, we have no evidence that the 680 sat's (excluding the center) are any different from the 560's, so I should hope people would stop making that claim in the absence of evidence.

The 15 Watt rating is for using it's whole frequency range, Logitech truncates it and thus, it can take much a much higher power input (no worry about being blown).
Oh, and the back of the drivers in my satellites (Z-560) say Logitech, and not Tang-Band.
I paid $160, hell yeah, my sister uses them when she comes home on break from college (she's got my BA4800s up there), or I use them if I want bass. Right now I have the subwoofer hooked up to my 40" XBR downstairs and it kicks ass when I play two-towers, etc.
my friend bought z-640's for $130 AUD and he thinks that spending $500 AUD for an audigy 2 and z-560's is a waste of money. A strange attitude for a BOSE-ite. He doesn't understand the difference between the z-560 and his z-640. if logitech think that it is reasonable to sell the z-560 for twice the price of the z-640 and then sell it with one less channel, it must have heaps better sound. In my opinion the logitech z-640 sonds attrocious compared to the generic speakers that came with my computer. The only good thing about it would be having 5.1. But I don't give a crap about surround. What is the point of 5 satellites if they sound like crap?
I already spent all the money i was planning to use on sound and I am satisfied with the logitech z-5300 and the audigy 2 ZS, so I don't see any reason why i should buy monsoon speakers . I'm going to save up for sennheiser headphones and a projector.
