Borderlands 4

I definitely needed to turn the default sensitivity way down on my end, too. I'm at 1600dpi on my G502 lightspeed. I went down to 65% and might even knock it down some more.
I rock the arrow keys so most keybinds make 0 sense to me. I remapped everything to the right side of the keyboard and am pretty happy with the way things are. Luckily the inventory/abilties/etc. menus are all connected. I really only need a bind for on of them (the map) and I can then access the other stuff.
I'm not seeing a way to change the keys for any of the menus or to swap crouching to a toggle. Those are both QOL things, luckily.

Unfortunately with the UE5 engine there isn't much you can do, other than using DLSS and FG/MFG or turning down settings. With Stalker 2 I can get around 125-150ish fps with DLSS quality and FG, I do use smooth motion as I said to boost it higher, but I also use a wired mouse and keyboard which may be why I don't notice any input lag. Another downside of the UE5 engine is developers aren't using it correctly according to Epic's Tim Sweeney https://www.techspot.com/news/109267-performance-woes-unreal-engine-5-games-developers-fault.html
I believe the patch came out earlier today already.
Always the DEVs and not the engine...

Doh. It's one of those games where Microsoft Teams messages = certain death. You pretty much have to start alt-tabbing really really fast since your controls go completely dead when a message pops up.

Ok it runs fine now. Max everything, DLSS Q, FG 2X, 4K. About 120-130 fps most places. Hit the beach and going to clear out a camp for a glider. Playing as Vex.
I guess need to wait to get better guns and powers.

Also all Borderpants games look the same to me. 👀
That's like running maxed out path tracing at 4k in Doom the Dark Ages or Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Ouch. (this is on a 5090)

Looks like your numbers line up with the TechPowerUp performance review. The review also mentions that the game is using Lumen and not using hardware Lumen. I wonder if it would run better with hardware Lumen aka Lumen using RT.

I bought the game, my 4080 should do okay seeing how it’s between a 5080 and a 5070 Ti. I bought it on Fanatical for 15% off, I just got the base game, if I like it I’ll get the season pass.

I gave up on 4k back in January and went back to 1440P, it was just too hard to maintain a good frame rate.

I have the LG 45 Ultragear OLED which is 3440 X 1440res, was thinking on getting the newer LG version that's like 5k resolution, then thought about running games at that crazy res and thought no freaking way, I'll stick with 3440X1440

The lighting/shadows do look improved over BL3 by a notable amount, the problem is due to the art style it doesn't standout as much as it could. Seems like a lot of the features are designed for graphical realism and don't really make sense for this game, and end up killing frame rates for little visual gain. Though BL2 and BL3 both ran quite bad for me, a few of the max settings killed frame rates. Turning those things down 1 or 2 notches resulted in very little visual fidelity loss but a significant frame rate jump. I assume BL4 is like that. Though still, I think it will still perform relatively poor judging from the Techpowerup benchmark.

People also said they didn't think BL3 looked any better than BL2. IDK how anyone could seriously say that about 2->3 or now 3->4 if you see the games next to each other. I think it's just rose colored nostalgia glasses. Yes they are cartoony styles, but there way more detail in the newer games and the lgihting like you said is way better.

So I played until I got to the base, performance was about the same as Stalker 2 which is weird since BL4 is a cartoon game, I actually think Stalker might perform a better since it's received a slew of patches. I've been getting on average 125-135 fps, a couple times dipping below 125, so it's acceptable. My settings are bad ass, DLSS quality and FG2X, at 1440P. So I'll see how it keeps doing as I get deeper into the game.

FYI: using smooth motion together with FG gets me 180-200fps and I didn't notice artifacts, but you will probably need a wired mouse and keyboard so you don't get any input lag.

Found a Borderlands Fan at work he said played 6 hours last night. He said with gun specialists it doesn't matter in this game? Like SMG,Machine Gun, Rocket launcher any Character can use each equally?

I have both and though the 4k version has clearer text they both are great at gaming.

I don't see how the art style has any bearing on performance, keep reading this but it makes no sense, you can make cartoony textures that are higher detail then realistic ones

13 days lll have 9 days off I did ask off for this week but a guy with a more legitimate excuse got vacation starting today. He's going camping at Rock Island in Wi. Least I have off for Ghost of Yotei.

BL4 doesn't look dramatically different from BL3, to require so much hardware horsepower and being heavily reliant on DLSS and FG/MFG, says the game is poorly optimized. So really the poor performance lays somewhere between developers not using the UE5 engine correctly, and the engine itself being in ongoing development, with a new 5.6 version currently out since June which expands on performance and stability.

Yeah the have 2k and 5k on the same Display. I really want a better LG display that displays black levels better but I'm happy with my 1st Gen 27" OLED.
I replaced my 4k monitor with a Alienware OLED 27in and have been very pleased with it, I no longer find myself fighting with game settings trying to get it to run without it being a slide show.

That sounds awful for a cel shaded game. Are they using rtgi or something?
It's a common misconception but the BL games are not cel shaded. They intentionally make the textures with a gradient style cel shaded look but it's standard rendering as in most other 3d AAA games. Since it's not cel shaded there will be a full performance hit from any additional graphical features typical of standard rendering.

there are 4k OLEDs out there as well and have been for a while! :)

Borderlads games are colored line drawings I think I got that from a painter trying to describe the artist BROM.

Yes they are awesome for movies, gaming is a whole other story.
Yeah think unless you really need a larger monitor, 27” 16:9 1440p OLED is the current sweet spot for gaming. The image quality of 1440p OLED is so much better than even the best VA and IPS panels, and there aren’t many GPUs that can handle all AAA games at higher FPS. Frame gen and upscaling can help a ton especially with the quality uptick the latest versions, but response time is still mostly tied to native performance.

For BL4 the overwhelming evidence that there isn’t too much of a visual quality improvement going from medium to ultra/badass settings just reinforces the narrative that it’s poorly optimized. If image quality or native performance improves with later updates then it could get a reassessment like CB77, but at this moment the mixed reviews are warranted.

I plugged in my VA Asus after not using it for two years my eyes just started to burn. Was hoping to use for daily monitor but oled got the best of me. I would like a 19" oled but those off brands on Amazon have me skeptical.
