Boot order problem

I bought a Kingston HyperX SSD for my computer last week. I set my boot order to have the SSD boot first but after I turn my computer off and restart it later the boot order has changed and I have to go back into the BIOS and reset the boot order. I have just changed the startup to not use the quick boot feature to see if this would help. My motherboard is an ASUS P6X58D Premium with the SATA 3 being handled by a Marvell chip onboard. My conventional hard drives are handled by the onboard intel chipset at SATA 2 and are not bootable. Any ideas on how to make the boot order stick?
 
If your BIOS saves other settings and not that one, that's weird. You could just put the SSD on an Intel port, it will probably work better anyway. Those Marvell controllers are weak from all that I've seen. 300MB a second is still very, very fast.
 
Windows 7 is a little bitch about what drive it chooses to write the MBR to when multiple drives are installed during OS installation. Did you happen to just install Win 7 on this system?
 
No. The install is probably at least a year old by now. I cloned the install from a WD SATA 2 drive with Acronis.
 
tbh I would't use the marvell ports in the first place on that board. they have worse performance than the intel ports in low file reads... anyways, go into settings somewhere on that board and set the marvell to ahci, not IDE. then go into the boot order and set the marvell as first and see if it sticks then. I had trouble with IDE mode on a p6x58d-e.
 
The Marvell ports are set to AHCI and the boot order has has been reset several times since then.
 
The major benefits an SSD brings are low access times, and that Marvell controller adds lots of time to those access, so you should stick to the southbridge. Still, it should be possible to boot from it, but I never tried.
 
Maybe a BIOS bug that causes the changes not to stick? Check revision history on your BIOS and maybe reflash it.

The Marvell controller is also slower.

Do yourself a favor and don't use that "Marvelous Crap". :)

Second, what version of the BIOS are you running. 1501 is the latest, make sure you are updated to that. Also, if you have a SATA DVD drive, if you remove that SATA cable temporarily and retry the set boot process, does the problem go away?
