Blizzard Helps Cops Track Down WoW Player

It amazes me how many want to use drugs and defend their use. I include alcohol and tobacco in this as well. Why do people wish to be slaves to someone selling them a chemical? How is the street pusher any different from the pharmaceutical pushers in this case? I see those who want to use "recreational" drugs attack the pharmaceuticals simply because they are legal, yet if both are doing the same thing in effect, what is the difference? You are still paying someone else to give you a chemical. The only difference I can see is that people who use pot and other illegal drugs are defending their use simply because they want to keep using them regardless of whether or not they are harmful or illegal, while some pharmaceuticals actually do provide benefits of a medical nature. Some, but not all. What I do know is that the alcoholic defends their drinking, the tobacco smoker defends their smoking, and the drug addict justifies their drug use. Addictive behavior sacrifices or perverts reason, apparently from what I see here even to the point of blaming race and religion. I suppose chemistry and biology are to be completely ignored? Science has much to say about the body and how chemicals affect it. Is that all then just a lie? But then, you know better than they, do you not? Is that not how it is in your mind?

I know nothing I say would change the minds of those who desire to use such chemicals, but I pity you regardless. You are victims of addiction, and yet you defend that which victimizes you because you don't see it as such. I hope one day you realize this and find help. Attack what I say if you wish, but I have seen too many "harmless" drugs destroy far too many lives to see any benefit in them whatsoever, and I will applaud the arrest and conviction of every dealer of every illegal drug or illegal use of prescription drugs, no matter how petty they may seem.

First of all the "war on drugs" has not worked, does not work, and never will work. It is a joke and a complete waste of money. Second, as long as I do not harm you why does it matter what I do with my body? You do not own me, the state does not own me, I am the only one that owns me.

Like I said before I have no interest in using drugs or even hanging around people who use them. However, I can't support laws that imprison peaceful people just because I think an activity is dumb. I wouldn't want an activity that does not infringe upon others that I enjoy to be made illegal just because there is a stigma attached to it.

You smoke weed, reaction times slow, you plow your 76' Dodge into my wife and child killing them. That is how it matters to me you ignorant, selfish, prick.

Haven't gotten past page 2, and don't know why people are bringing up racial prejudices (ok, it's funny though) but has anyone noted how closely this relates to Eric Schmidt's comments 2 weeks ago? I'm certainly thinking more about my personal security groing forward.

I remember, when around 1998, people started getting up in arms against Microsoft, Symantec, for collecting and illicitly storing their personal information and usage patterns. Maybe it was AOL too. A few companies were implicated. It was a big deal at the time, and laws were supposedly set in place to force transparency. Now I see that the corruption has finally become bold and openly proclaimed that we have no rights. "We shall not give out your privacy...unless it is to a high bidder, or unless you become important."

HAHA, ok i challenge you to find one case of a marijuana related car accident
where there was no other drugs involved.

Alcohol is a hundred times more likely to cause this, why don't we make that illegal too
then, cause we all know how well that worked out.

Replace tin foil hat, get back to your own WoW session.

You're the only one with a tin foil hat. So far your argument comes down to this: some drunk drivers kill people, because alcohol is legal. Therefore, drugs should be illegal.

I'd call it a weak argument, but frankly it's not that good.

This is all pretty silly. It really doesn't matter whether or not marijuana should or should not be illegal. The fact is that the law is the law until it is changed in a manner that is according to the law.

The person in this article disregarded the law and that makes him a criminal. I don't think marijuana should be illegal but that doesn't make it OK for me to smoke and sell it - so I don't.

If you don't like the law, either leave the country or use the methods in place to change the law.

So basically you are admitting that some weed smokers do a cocktail of drugs and then some go out and kill people with cars. That is wonderful logic. Do you plan on defending them or are they not purist potheads? I know of several cases where marijuana was the only known contributing factor of inebriation in a car accident involving fatality.

If you actually read what I posted I clearly said it shouldn't matter what I do as long as I do not harm others. I appreciate the namecalling though, maybe you should come up with a real argument next time!

Alright bitch, I wasn't going to say anything but you brought weed into it. Take a look at the many experiments done with marijuana use and driving and then get back to me. What you'll find is people are considerably more cautious while driving and much more likely to obey traffic laws. Furthermore, those under the influence of a legal drug like alcohol are highly dangerous.

I highly doubt you know any of these cases, but say you do. Say... somewhere out there, someone killed someone with a car while high. The number of deaths per year in auto accidents in general overshadow it by so much it could be considered statistically insignificant. That is to say, the deaths per year would not have changed a noticeable amount if marijuana didn't exist.

The argument reminds me that just about every individual above the age of 25 is pretty much a tool. People are so much more tolerable when they are in high school in certain ways. Anyway, before long, pot will be legal. It's a better drug than alcohol, there's no doubt.

Am I the only one in this thread who isn't wanting to defend a drug, something that alters someone's normal state of mind, by citing it is never been proven to do anything wrong? I am not even trying to defend alcohol or even the legality of the marijuana but about the only thing that hasn't been dragged into this conversation in regards to people's apparent affinity for marijuana is antisemitism. If I attack your precious weed it is like I just kicked your dog, such a personal feeling of attack because you feel like you have a right to sit in your house and get baked because for some reason you don't feel like life is good enough. To each their own. But when I cite that it may not be safe for the laws to allow the acceptable use of yet another drug because it may have a negative impact on some else's mortality, it is taken so personally by so many. What I take from this is that there is only regard for one person's life in your mind, and that is your own, hence the selfish prick comment. These people care about nobody else until it impacts them but up until that point, you just want to be left alone to smoke your weed. "Alright bitch, I wasn't going to say anything but you brought weed into it", seriously? You make it sound like I kidnapped your only child. You sound like you don't care about anything more than you care about your precious weed. You study it, you covet it, and then when it comes to anybody ever badmouthing it you have gone out of your way to research every facet of it so you can quote statistics and studies so you feel like your wonderful drug really is in fact the best thing on the planet. Maybe I am just ignorant to its might powers.

Sorry, but you not giving a shit that weed is illegal is not a reason to make it legal.

I don't use cannabis in any fashion. But I also don't hate people that don't share my viewpoints. How does not supporting the criminalization of cannabis equate with supporting people driving while impaired? Beats me, but I guess you really just don't get it. You obviously don't care about the freedoms of others. You're the only selfish one here.

I guess that is the disconnect of my statements and what I am intending to convey. Let me ask you this then, would you agree that driving under the influence of marijuana should be criminal, and if yes, should be prosecuted and punished the same as alcohol offenses? Selfish and not caring enough about others freedoms to have served in the military? I don't know if that is a good subject either.

Im pretty sure you'd get a DUI if you were found to be driving under the influence of weed. Which I agree with.

Knowing this country though I bet you'd find info that paints drivers on MJ less likely to break traffic laws than ones on cell phones.

If you're driving impaired for ANY reason then yes you should be held responsible. And in fact you already are if I'm not mistaken. My point is just that people smoke weed anyway, but since the government has made it illegal they have empowered cartels and put relatively peaceful people in jail for having small amounts of drugs. Like I have said before I want nothing to do with drugs personally but I don't want my tax dollars to be spent on a fruitless "war." And I respect your service but I just want to see people in this country have more personal freedom, not less. However, the last few administrations have had a fairly detrimental effect on our rights.

It's got to do with you attacking pot, and thereby attacking me, a pot user. I smoke occasionally and when I do, I get fucking slammed. Does that matter to you? Do you enjoy the company of friends? Does that make your night better? Well, pot makes my night better. It makes shit more funny and makes me less on edge.

I think people with something against drugs are the same people that would like to deny their consciousness is merely a result of electrons moving around. If I can alter the way my brain perceives reality, is that morally wrong? You only think it is because you can't have that same escape. You have this weird sense of "we're all stuck in this together and life is wonderful, don't diminish it with drugs" bullshit. You have this weird idea that hitting a bag of THC dirties my mind somehow and corrupts me. The reality is, I'm the one that's embracing my brains ability to react to chemicals. Know how you feel a bit tired after you eat Turkey? Chemical reaction. Feeling down about days getting shorter and cold weather? Chemical reaction. Like SEX? Chemical reaction. Like running? Chemical reaction. In fact, if you like something, it's because your brain is responding to certain chemicals. Sorry, it's not really your soul getting excited about racing cars or seeing your wife.

People create this bullshit about "dependency" and how it's so sad people can't live without their weed. Fact is, not everyone who does weed depends on it. You probably don't bitch about people going to church, trying to convince God to put them in heaven. But, if I ripped religion out from under those sorry people, you think they'd be cool? I've seen people that smoke twice a day go without weed. They might feel sick and be a little more pissed. Have you ever seen someone who loses their religion? Yeah, that's when you see the adverse effects of dependency.

..No one says shit to them, though. People actually *comfort* them.

What do any of the above comments have to do with Blizzard helping the police locate a criminal? On topic people!

Blizzard doesn't want you to take other drugs than it's own addicting games! ;-)

It has to do with the incredible stigma placed on Cannabis, opium, and cocaine over the years.

Cocaine - black man's drug, used to rape white women
Opium - Chinese man's drug, used to rape white women
Marijuana - Mexican man's drug, makes them steal from white men, and... rape white women
Alcohol - White man's drug, acceptable

It's no coincidence that Alcohol has remained untouched since 1933, while everything else has become illegal. Our current drug policy has 100% to do with racism and xenophobia.

lolol really

krupted: I am far past my days of youth, unfortunately, though I would not claim to be wise either. Saying the world is complicated and that nothing is cut and dry... Many things are cut and dry, and all complexities have their roots in simpler principles. Gravity makes things fall. People are born, and die. There's no argument on such things, nor do they change. Certain chemicals cause physical damage to the human body. Cyanide is certainly not beneficial and does not respect opinions when ingested. Would you disagree that excessive consumption of alcohol damages the liver, or that inhaling tobacco smoke damages the lungs? These are proven medical facts, and facts about the damage that THC (the chemical in pot that makes it psychoactive) and other drugs cause to the body exist as well. What is not cut and dry there? Do all doctors and scientists lie? Excusing drug addiction by simply saying humans are animals is a poor defense. If you are just animals, why do you wage wars on each other, and build technology as opposed to living in tune with nature? If you are more than animals, why can't you act like it and show some form of enlightened wisdom instead of constantly squabbling over the same things century after century, or finding new things to murder each other over?

I also stated that some pharmaceuticals have legitimate uses. I have nothing against the desire to ease pain or reduce the level of misery in the world. I am not heartless and insensitive to suffering, far from it. I would do away with it completely if it were within my power. I am simply wise to the dangers that drugs of any nature pose, and the fact that human nature is to engage in unwise decision making, especially when the welfare of others is balanced against one's own selfish desires. As for living in a world alone, well, at times I feel as though I already do, though I ask for no sympathy and expect none as well.

BladeVenom: You accuse me of being a "mindless slave of government who is incapable of thinking for himself.... someone who isn't mature and sophisticated enough to make their own decisions, and can only repeat what they've been brainwashed into believing." You base all this on a single post that I have made on a message board? Perhaps before judging someone you should try to get to know them first. That is a hallmark of the very maturity and sophistication that you claim I lack.

First of all, its because you are making accusations in direct contradiction of available evidence? I mean when you are making stuff up, can you really be angry when people call you on it?

Secondly, who says the care about no one else because they smoke marijuana? nothing, you just made that up out of some misplaced hatred for something that shouldn't affect you in the least.

Why do people defend stuff when people are making stuff up about it you ask? because sometimes its important that people know the truth? Lets have an example, how about Richard Dawkins, everyones least favorite atheist, why do christians get so up in arms about someone badmouthing their religion? because they don't like having their religion attacked. Actually, that is a really bad example, but whatever, it will stand for now, even though it usually isn't him making stuff up. but the point remains, that he is cocky, and in your face, and annoys the hell out of people. That is not to say I am comparing weed to religion, its just a fun substance to use.

"negative impact on some else's mortality", If you can come up with a convincing argument as to why it does, I will gladly listen, but from reading the rest of your post it appears that you don't like being confronted with evidence. Here is a question for you, why are your morals correct? I am guessing you are christian, because in my experience they are most likely to believe in moral absolutes, infinite apologies if I am mistaken.

I'd like someone to link, just once, one article where marijuana was the sole factor is someones health related death. I'm not talking about someone getting high and running over a little kid in a car. Where marijuana was the sole contributing factor in someones death, i.e. they died from smoking pot.

/end thread since no such article exists.

My college thesis was on marijuana, I've probably studied it more than any of you. Marijuana remains illegal because the government has no way of controlling it otherwise through taxation, distribution or consumption. There are no easy tests to determine is someone is intoxicated due to it's nature of remaining in the system for extended periods of time. The means simply aren't there to justify it's legalization, yet.

Some people in this thread need to get a clue while getting off our half-assed governments dick.

Class 1 drug it may be classified as, but there is no possible way to overdose on marijuana like other class 1 drugs. Alcohol is more damaging to you than marijuana will ever be.

As for all the bullshit statistics floating around this thread. LULZ

http://drugwarfacts.org/cms/?q=node/30#marijuana

I'd rather legalize marijuana and ban senior citizens from driving. We'd all be a lot safer.

Christian I am not. Religious? Far from it. I have done what most people have done when it comes to reasoning with pot smokers, given up. You have made me concede because of your classic argument, show me proof. I have one person here who is now a self proclaimed marijuana expert who probably did a paper in college on it because he figured he smoke so much of it, might as well write about it. Even though I am not religious, it is funny for you to directly compare smoking a drug to religion. That really isn't helping your case but if you like to hide behind weed like people hide behind religion, so be it. They exercise the same rights that you have just with a different excuse.

My morals aren't "correct" as much as they are simply mine. I have many friends who smoke weed that aren't better or worst than me in any way. And for whatever reason you may think I am looking down on you, I don't. I still hang out with my friends who do smoke weed but I wouldn't trust leaving my child with them for a day. Does that make me a bad person? Or is it just me being cautious because I don't trust my child with someone who may smoke while in care of them? It is the same with an alcoholic. I wouldn't leave my child with an alcoholic friend. Am I comparing smoking weed to drinking? Yep, it seems it is recognized that the drug alters the state of the brain which is okay to concede for any other conversation but when it comes to how it affects others.

I'm probably more of an expert on it than you since I actually researched facts on the subject for years. You seem to have a lot of baseless claims with no facts to back up your rants.

Do some research. All the groundless b.s. in the thread gives me a headache.

These are proven medical facts, and facts about the damage that THC (the chemical in pot that makes it psychoactive) and other drugs cause to the body exist as well.
Stopped reading there. You're wrong and stop thinking something is bad for you because it's illegal. Besides that, your idea of cut and dry resides in truths and falsehoods. People obviously know some things are true and others are false.

I can't exactly scan the files and publish them on the net. There is proprietary information that could get me sued. Sorry I am not at liberty to show you documents with my facts. I am fully aware that you are more of an expert on the subject, I haven't dedicated more than 10 minutes to making sure I understand the great and apparently harmless nature of this wonder drug. What I love though is trying to do a simple search for marijuana related deaths and there are thousands of sights out there with facts and statistics from where it only is help with the legalization movement. But, if you want something from Google results, then here you go.

The last one is nothing but dry numbers but I am sure these studies aren't what you would consider evidence simply because it contradicts your findings or whatever. I am sure anything I present or say is simply never going to be good enough for you.

It just brings me back to my point. You don't care about anyone else save but maybe the other pot smokers out there. I really don't care if you smoke your life away in your black light ridden ganja room while listening to whatever music or movies that enhance your high. I truly don't. But once you join the legions of impaired drivers, I do care. Some may say you are no more impaired than a drunk or a person talking on a cell phone. Still impaired. But I am not the self proclaimed expert. Just look out for yourself like I am sure you will.

I can tell you one side effect of marijuana, and that is it does impair cognitive functions and seems to cause a decrease in a students ability to learn, or else I'm stuck with some of the slowest learners on the planet.

Just a casual observation on the learning side of things, but there are numerous studies which do support the impairment of cognitive functions though.

If your morals are not absolute then how can you judge others morals?

I can completely understand why it is that you don't want to leave a kid with someone who will likely be smoking pot, they probably won't be that good with it. I never said that pot does not affect the mind, my reaction times are noticably slower when high, also I start thinking I am good at poetry, which is fairly horrible because I am definitely not. does it cause any permanent damage to my mind? I haven't seen any studies that conclusively prove it, find me some and I might change my mind about smoking, although they would have to be fairly dangerous given how much it helps with my insomnia.

You say that you don't look down on people who smoke weed, but then you call them hopeless loser who only care about themselves, that sounds like looking down, and is also patently false. It is probably true of some people, but back to the religious comparison that is like me classifying all christians as crazy neo-con pyschos, it probably isn't true.

No matter what you think of drugs, don't stop taking your meds. :)

You call me a hypocrite, yet you completely miss what I had said. Does one that opposes slavery blame the slave for their condition? That is what you have just accused me of doing. I said that I did not understand why someone would wish to remain in a state where a chemical substance that is not necessary for sustaining life controls their actions, yet I also know that addiction corrupts one's reason and makes it hard for someone to find their own way out. It is the dealers and the pushers, not the addicts, that I want to see taken down. I want help for the addicts so that they no longer have to be addicted. I'm also not ignorant of the fact that some people want to take pleasure drugs and cannot be talked out of it, and will do so regardless of the consequences to themselves and others. If someone endangers someone else through their stupid behavior then yes, they deserve to be punished and I have no sympathy for them. Perhaps you have never seen the effects of drug addiction on someone's life. I have, and it can be devastating.

I also stated, and I will state once again, that pharmaceuticals can be beneficial. Perhaps if you were more interested in engaging in meaningful conversation than hurling insults at people you disagree with you would have noticed this.

Addiction is devastating, weed is not an addictive substance, there is no physical addiction or need for it, some people start relying on it, but its all mental.

You say that you don't like to live in a state where a chemical substance affects your actions, but do you eat a nourishing tasteless gruel or do you enjoy your food? Do you ever like unhealthy food? its bad for you, but it still tastes good. Incidentally you use the word "control" how does it control? it affects certainly, yet I see no evidence that it somehow controls people actions. Every action you take is coloured by your emotions and state of mind at the time at which you are taking them, weed just affects your mind and makes you enjoy a lot of stuff, thus it isn't controlling.

That cop sounded very impressed with himself.

Yeah, he really, really did. However, I'd expect no less from someone who goes to new heights to catch a guy that had a few DUIs and sold pot. Fucked up, man. So many shootings and stuff on the news but these guys get stuck on people that aren't even violent and by all accounts are making new lives for themselves away from the united states.

Lol! And with hit rating on his gear no less. At least someone's still on topic here. :p
You guys can argue whether what Blizzard did was right or wrong all you want. But going off on the justification of the guy's "crimes" is getting kind of silly.

The-UselessNoob: Why are you assuming that I am specifically attacking pot here and nothing else? I mentioned that THC is psychoactive. There are medical studies that show long term effects of use, as well as medical studies that show some benefits for certain medical conditions. I do not dispute those studies. I also never said pot is addictive. It is not my goal to distort facts, so please do not read more into what I say than what I actually post. I also do not see why you are bringing enjoyment of food into this. Eating is not the same as deliberately inhaling oxidized plant material. If you're simply wanting to defend the use of pot, I have no control over the legality of such. I said before that what I say here would not change the mind of someone who wants to use. I, on the other hand, will not change my mind about how I feel about the use of pot. If someone uses it, I cannot stop them, but it does not mean I will ever agree with it.

I also did not say that I personally don't like to live in a state where a chemical substance affects my actions, though you are correct on that assumption. What I said was that I did not understand why some people deliberately do want to exist in that state. I'm well aware of the fact that the body is all chemistry, and that chemical impulses govern the body. Simple thirst can overpower any other impulse over the body if one goes long enough without water, but water is necessary to survival so it is a reaction I can understand. I would not have you confuse the issue by equating normal physiological responses with those induced by a drug that is not normally a part of the body's functioning. As for control, addiction by its very definition controls your actions. If it were not so, quitting cocaine would be as easy as tying your shoes, and there would be no drug-related crimes.
