Black Mesa: Source Gameplay

Most games don't take 8+ years to complete...

Exactly. Especially when you're trying to graphically refresh an outdated game...your refresh will be way outdated when it's done. (Yes I know they're doing a bit more than that, but at the end of the day I believe that's what most BM:S fans are looking for.)

With regards to the voice acting, he's right. As far as quality of the performances it's like they settled on bottom barrel, or didn't give any direction whatsoever to the voice actors. Just gave them lines to record and send. I do think it's a major cop-out to say that wanted the voices like that because you're not supposed to care about the enemy.

Pointless to say, but I'd have offered my voice if I knew about this project when it was in its early stages, and I certainly would have given them many variations on the lines if they so wanted... then again, I care about any work I do -- free or not.

You should look at the voice actors they chose. They are better than you until you give a showreel.

Yes, really pointless to say as there is nothing stopping you from getting all the lines and then reading them yourself and giving them as a pack for people to use.

I meant in the voice acting itself, but hey don't let the obvious stop you.

Really? The entire FAQ reads like it could have been written by a PR agent for a game developer. Not to mention the whole way they've been dealing with promotion of the mod.

The part I quoted is something a PR agent would say. Instead of saying "We're doing this for free so we couldn't hire voice actors and had to make do with what we had" they spin it with some ridiculous BS.

Oh, I am sorry for assuming you can communicate properly in english:
"but there doesn't seem to have been any effort at all made into getting good voice work into the mod"

But even with your change THERE HAD TO STILL BE EFFORT IN MAKING THE AUDIO FOR IT TO EXIST. More effort than you think, which is self-evident by the fact that you think it took no, or next to no effort to do.

Only if you want it to read that way.

Then you would be all like, OMG BLACK MESA DEVS THINK WE ARE IDIOTS BETTER NOT SUPPORT THEM! You know, as that would be stating the obvious, when you work with limitations you have limitations on what you can do.

Unfortunately not everyone thinks like you, though they should. Half-assing something is the norm now.

Half-assing? The audio isn't incomplete.

You have never put in as much effort as these guys have into this into anything so who are you to insult these people?

Most games don't take 8+ years to complete...

Are you kidding me, most games aren't made by a team of 40 amateurs collaborating over the internet. Most games of Black Mesa's scope are made of teams of 100+ with professional experience and they still take several years+ to get a game out, not that many are made at the scope of Black Mesa(HL1) anymore, so many different areas, scripted events everything, even HL2 doesn't compare as it has a general atmosphere and structure that it can follow (No Xen).

Yes, I get mad when people OVERLY criticise, I can't believe you guys are fixating on the va without recognising the amount of work they have put into the mod. It's frankly disgusting that you are so critical, if you showed any of your work it wouldn't compare, it just wouldn't, I can guarantee that none of you have ever undertaken such a project let alone gotten it to such a polished state. The amount of work for them to have gotten to where they are now is so insane, low estimates (2 hours per week for half the team members over 8 years) would go for about 16640 man hours of work put into it.

Yes you can say you don't like the VA, but then you don't even recognise the rest of the work? Shame on you. One should be praising his fellow man for trying, not condemning him for not reaching your nigh-impossible standards. They aren't asking for your money so why are you acting like they are?

Then some of you spout your opinion as fact and I am in rage mode x10.

Lol, how the fuck would you know?

You don't get to make that kind of claim until we actually play the goddamn game.

Maybe his klaxons are wailing like a banshee since we've all hit a nerve of his. Either he's an amateur developer of some sort with a grudge towards people voicing their opinions over this or is somehow (in some crazy way) related with the BMS project.

We're not going to win this battle (if it was one to begin with) regardless of if we're giving constructive criticism or just plain stonewalling the BMS developers. We obviously will never do as much work on anything technology related as the BMS crew.

You're also being very insulting, and at this point you might as well put people on ignore if your blood is going to boil that much over people's opinions.

Only as insulting as the people I am quoting. I think I can rationalise that. No I don't think so, I would rather at least try and show these people how idiotic what they are saying is.

I don't know what part you are referring to but:

40 people, look at the bms website.
Then look at any similar FPS and it's credits. I dunno, Halo..although it's textures aren't as crisp and it's models aren't as detailed it had close to 100 people on it. The original HL1 had ~38 people on it which took 1 and a bit years working full time on it, 79040 man hours.
Using HL1 as guide and extrapolating, they have removed areas but the increase in graphical fidelity would easily dwarf the removing of those places.

Either he's an amateur developer of some sort with a grudge towards people voicing their opinions over this or is somehow (in some crazy way) related with the BMS project.

Incorrect. Nice assumption(s).

The people I was addressing didn't give constructive criticism, and made baseless assumptions of the people who worked on it. Some of them even saying they could do better.

It has nothing to do with technology, just any project really. If you have you can prove me wrong easily, but I see you don't even try and deny it. Why are you rolling your eyes? Are you saying you can and have or plan to? Show me so I can follow along and watch your awesome project flourish but alas, your sarcastic eye rolling doesn't mean a thing.

Pointing out what you've said really makes you go wild. Not much more anyone can say when you're demonizing yourself & perpetuating it with every reply. I can see you either don't care to agree to disagree or just want to piss people off with your own assumptions & name calling.

Really, all you're doing is shit talking. As you claim, most of us are doing that about BMS. I'm not sure what you're trying to prove, since it looks like we're (mostly) all the guilty party one way or another regarding complaints towards the project or each other. I applaud your ongoing determination to be king of the hill in this discussion though. What you're fighting for... I have no clue.
