Black Edition 5000+ Fun

By my math, I'm running at 40c idle in windows. That sound about right for an AC Pro 64 in a relatively cool room?

I'm asking because there isn't a monitoring program that reads the TA690G sensor right. Best I can get is one that reads 8-10c idle, so I'm doing math to try and get to what it should be.

What "math" are you doing to figure out your temperature readings?

what board are you using? ;)
some have a bios update for brisbane's temp sensor

temp = readout temp + how much it's off. I know abour what temp it is: Rebooting, the hw monitor in bios is accurate sounding. Just nothing in windows can read it right.

Biostar TA690G. Biostar USA doesn't admit the board exists.

I was just curious as I am having the same silly issue with temperature readings. My board's website has several new BIOS's that are rather nebulous in the description but they do make mention of incorrect temperatures. I plan on flashing this afternoon.

keep in mind that the bios isn't an idle state, so you won't be getting an idle temp there. it's like 75% load or so from what i can tell ;)

It isn't? Wow. that's good to know... ish.

Fletch.

This is in boot: The board flashes a hardware status thing before the OS boots (while saying: "Attempting to boot from CD").

BLAH.

Why isn't bios an idle state?

Why isn't bios an idle state?

not sure. it just isn't :p

if you're trying to calculate your temps, just add 3/4 * difference to the idle temp, plus your offset to match the bios temp. it should be somewhat close

blech.

I'm done fighting with this. Going Intel. Anyone want one of these cheap?

you're going to intel just because you don't know for sure what the temp is?:p

No, because out of 5 friends building systems, we had 3 intel boxes go perfectly, and the 2 amd guys can't get their boxes to run with 4gb of ram to save their lives.

:p

It don't matter how it clocks if you can't get it stable at stock!

Running 3.0 Ghz at stock voltage (ignore sig, I just lowered it today) with 8 gigs of RAM on a mATX board. I'm curious as to the specs of your buddies' AMD rigs.

We've gone through:
Biostar TA690G (I don't blame the proc or anyhting for this one, the 690 chipset is broken for 4gb of ram and biostar told us to fuck off about getting a bios fix for it)
Biostar T570 SLi (What I'm currently fighting with)
and a Foxconn board that I don't know

both of us have 4gb of G.Skill, and 8800GTs. Both of us have the 5000+ BE cpus

One of the intel guys has the same thing, only intel board/proc... he's stable, we can't get Vista to be reliable: We keep getting "video driver has stopped responding" in games and the like.

What board are you using?

I'm using an Abit NF-M2 nView mATX board. I'm using Vista Ultimate 64. I really don't like AMD chipsets (we'll see about the upcoming release). Make sure you get all the hotfixes from Microshaft because I would initially crash until I got the hardware hotfixes.

I got all the Nvidia ones. Are there AMD ones?

I have the TF570 SLI mb and am looking for the latest BIOS with updates for the Black Edition cpu, but the Biostar page for the new BIOS N57IAB05.BST dated 11-14-2007 shows up 404 page not found.

Google doesn't show any other sources for the new BIOS. I wonder if anyone has copy they can email to me?

nope: the version they uploaded was actually corrupted, hence the 404. They at least took it down so you don't brick your mobo

just so you know: it's out finally :-D

So now that I'm stable and actually trying to overclock, I'm really trying to figure out what you're saying here and getting mighty confused :p

Bios reads 38c "idle"
windows reads 18c idle
overclock at full load reads 38c in windows (20c increase).

now what do I add where what when why?

edit: also capping out at 3ghz, so far. Not the best of OC.

Anyone get their hands on a 5200+ with 45w and oc it?
I can't seem to find how the amd 45w cpus overclock

What I can't seem to find are any mention of 45W 5200+ chips. AFAIK there are 89W and 65W versions.
