Black Edition 5000+ Fun

I was looking at upgrading into an Intel platform and then I saw this chip. I then realized that my current Zalman 9500 is only for 939/AM2 CPUs. That kind of sealed the deal for me and I am looking at the following for an upgrade. Can anybody make any other recommendations on what I am considering?

Also has anybody played with the 6400+ Black Edition?

no option in the bios?

i just ordered a 5000+ from newegg. should be fun

Yeha.. its the just TF570 that I noticed this issue. As I mentioned earlier, my EVGA 590 (aka Foxconn), and TF560 has all the mulitplier unlocked. well.. unlocked up to like 25x.

Wow, that was a psychological setback:eek: I've been through 3 bioses on this TF570 and I swear on at least one them when I raised the Vid it went up to 1.3 and then AUTO and no higher. Anyway this BIOS for the G2 stepping does let me go up 2+ volts. So thanks SuAsDu for sending me back in. 3.2 gHz is the best I've been able to do with no voltage bump; now we will see what 1.425 v gets me.:D

those black editions look pretty sweet.
I'm more than happy with my q6600, but i convinced my brother to get a 5000+ for his latest build so we can play around with it. Should be fun, he ordered a new Zalman for it as well.

Hey IllusionMan, I am happy I can help out :) 3.2 on stock voltage is awesome. That is same speed as 6400BLackEditin, but for half the price :)

So we're overclocking these with a multi change mostly, yes?

Actually not really. The max speed doesn't change much based on the multiplier. You can typically hit roughly the same speed no matter what multi you use. The idea on the multiplier is that it really helps you tweak the FSB. This gives you 2 key benefits. (1) You can mess w/ the FSB so you can now maximize your memory speed to better compliment the CPU Speed. (2) Helps with FSB limited board. Some boards have issues running at very high FSB. So if you had a locked multi, it would limit your oc. Now you can increase your multi and get higher speeds with lower FSB.

Also.. unlocked multi helps with ColdBug. Mild cold bugs limits how fast the FSB can be. Typically 250Mhz is your limit. By moving the multi.. you now can OC alot faster. These what people did back in the FX60 939 days. The 65nm has really bad cold bug. I can't run it at Negative temps. It literally shuts down my PC. So Phase is too much for it. On the other hand, then 90nm run just fine to about -20c.

I hope that helps.

I ask because most OC screens I'm seeing for it have the stock 200mhz FSB.

Got my 6400+ Rig up and running (posting etc.) on the first try last night. Though I'm having some major issues installing Vista Home Premium 64bit. It wont finish the install, it just goes in an endless loop. I installed using my 32bit disc and that went through fine. Looks like I need a new disc (as this is my first time trying it) I working on trying to find if someone just has an new ISO that I can pair my key with. But it's hard to find anyone I know with a spair 64bit disc in the Chicagoland area. So far though, the 4GB (4X1) showed up perfectly in the post and showed 3.5GBs in Vista 32. If I can't find a 64bit disc I'll just have to live with it and then I'll post some benchmarks.

PS And yes, it is legit. I love academic discounts heh

4gb is your problem. Pull 2gb, install vista, patch, add the 2gb back. Vista installer is broken for having 4gb of RAM. :)

Lucky! I won't be able to do mine til tomorrow. CPU & Mobo are supposed to arrive today and the memory is arriving tomorrow.

Can't wait :)

lol. You're welcome. Have fun!

I have a small issue. I used the method you shot me towards. It sort of worked. I got Vista 64 installed, updated with 2GB's of ram installed. After I installed the other 2gb's every time it would start window it would BSOD. UNLESS I booted into Safe Mode (not with networking support, if used networking support it would still BSOD), in safe mode it would let me see all 4GB's of ram. I'm trying a bios update with just 3GB's of ram installed. We'll see what happens. Have any ideas?

Not a clue. I hate the OS, so that's where my knowledge stops. :(

As do I...I got the BSOD's to stop by a fluke. After restarting the machine 3 times it finally held on. But then, I had issues with my external HDD's (MyBook's). No drivers? So I said screw it. I went back to 32bit Vista with 3.5GB's of ram. Oh well right?

lol.

I just got an 8800GT and all these new parts, and I have every intention of using XP as my primary boot. Vista will be on there, for DX10 required games, but that's ~it~

I will be ordering one of these pretty soon. What is the best mobo for it? I'm not looking to spend a lot as this upgrade is going on a tight budget but want one that will let me oc reasonably well.

6400+ Black Edition arrived today :) Once the RAM arrives tomorrow I'll get the OS loaded up and start having some fun :)

Chip is stamped CCB8F - 0730BPMW

i wanted to move out onto the porch, but no outlets out there ;)

3.55ghz is 1M benchable with the temps dropped about 10c from where they were before. didn't bother with a screen cause it was a slow and stupid run. i'll tweak later. overall, not bad, i'm probably gonna have a lot of fun this weekend with dry ice :p
