Is BTCGuild getting DDOS'd? I'm suddenly getting problems communicating with bitcoin RPC every few minutes.

I seem to be connected and running on BTC Guild at the moment but where does it show your having problems communicating with bitcoin RPC? Are you using GUIMiner?

guiminer go to the console thing at the top, it opens a console tab

Oh okay. Yeah I just had a communication error pop up now that I opened the console.

Code:

It seems to be fine now. It was a 30min occurrence and the problem definitely wasn't at my end.

Just setup 2 workers per GPU to 2 different pools and you shouldn't have any real downtime.

Dont really want to read the whole thread....I already a 5770.
Do we have [H] pool set up?

Currently no [H] pool, but Yamaki is working on it. His last post said he's planning to have something up this weekend. I'm guessing it won't be ready for prime time right away, though, so in the meantime, I'd suggest joining another pool (I like Eligius and BTC Guild) to get that sucker workin' for ya.

First getting into BitMining and I am having this problem with GuiMiner with the BTC Guild Pool

sometimes it takes a while to show up, especially with outages, usually it'll pop up in your wallet kinda grayed out, then it'll show up dark but it'll say "unconfirmed", after a while people in the network start to hash the transaction and it'll start adding "confirmed"s, also, if you're gonna send BTC to anyone or use them on Amazon.com wait for at least 1 confirmation before sending...

be patient, if Deepbit is being DDoSed your transaction might basically be stuck until Deepbit comes back on line, then it should show up...

Got it now. Thanks man.

Quick question. Do I need to wait for the bitcoin client to find all the blocks before I can start mining?

if your going solo you need to have all the blocks downloaded first. Otherwise you can just start mining right away part of a mining pool.

To use a nvidia card for games and a 6850 for mining under Win7 there was a trick. You go to the screen resolution menu and get it to output through VGA on the AMD card. Then you extend the display onto the unused card. The gpu will show up in GUIMiner and run at full clocks. This also allows catalyst/afterburner to control the card.
Every single 58xx series card has dried up so I think I might pick up 3 HD 5770/6770/6790 tomorrow. OC'd they should all get >200Mhash/s and my 6850 only get 250 at a cost of $160. The traders seem to have bitcoin value stabilized at a reasonable price as well.

I have the pool up and running on my server. It's super alpha though. I'll let you guys start connecting when it reaches beta status. :D

I'm debating whether to add on to my 1ghash setup.

I've priced out a $1100 system that can get 1.2ghash...

Skipping this entire difficulty period (by the time I got it up and running we'd have moved on to 781468.0) my total 2.2ghash system would make $670.53 in ten days. Then I assume the difficulty would jump again, and I'd make even less. So assuming the price of the bitcoin didn't fall at all, we're looking at 3 weeks of constant production before bitcoin mining pays for that system entirely - and that's including the 1ghash from my current rig.

It'd be several months before the machine paid off itself - again, IF the bitcoin doesn't drop below the $23 area it's in right now.

Big if. I think it's much smarter for me to pick up a couple of video cards and throw them in my WHS and HTPC and deal with the noise. They would be paid off within a week.

Agreed. The smart thing to do right now is mine what you can mine with minimal investment (I already was running this 5850) and sell fast. If the bubble pops, you've made your money. If not, hardware is still there to mine for more.

People are gonna get burned on this eventually, maybe next week, maybe next year, but I dont think it's wise to buy cards ONLY to mine with, and certainly not at these inflated prices.

Welp, just dropped the hammer (credit card?) on the 6970 I've been putting off for approximately 6 months now. I was going to hold out till Bulldozer was benched (good or bad) before ordering stuff, but seeing as new videoc ard stuff is still well off I figure I should try and make some of the cost back if possible!

~400Mh/s here I come!

Awesome! Let us know when to start "helping" you bombard it with hashes :p

Have you put any thought into the support cost situation?

Great news. I know Im a n00b but I've come to really like [H] and I'd rather get in a pool here than anywhere else.

Interesting there now seems to be starting to have the possibility of issuing options on currency prices.

This means you can make bitcoins as the currency value itself increases or decreases with much deminished (relatively speaking! LOL) risk.

It's like watching a whole micro-economy evolving at blistering speed. (idea to working model in a few years!)

I'm thinking a 1% tax will cover server costs, and maybe even fund some giveaways! It's all to be forseen. 2% might be necessary if we get serious about the giveaways.

Yeah man, I grew up on [H], literally. Best community around. Look how long I've been here, and I'm only 18 years old :D

Maybe the best part is having a place to mine that isn't getting DDOSed.

I'm currently voluntarily at 2.5. I dont think anyone would have an issue with that.

I'm 33 but until fairly recently, if I went to a hardware related forum, it was TH. Obviously, I like the environment here much better. Everyone is generally smarter but also has a better attitude.

Stupid question: when backing up my wallet, should I do it after every transaction or is just once enough?

I guess what I'm asking is, is the wallet file dynamic? If I back my wallet up tonight, transfer in 10 bitcoins, my hard drive dies, then I reload the wallet backup from before the transaction, will my 10 bitcoins be there?

I think it all comes down to the number you use. I THINK. Im still a n00b at this, but anywhere you're mining should be asking you for a payment number. That number is generated by the actual bitcoin client (not whatever miner you're using). It is displayed in that client and you should copy it for yourself.

Someone please correct me if Im wrong.

So I can't get this solo mining to work. Keep getting "Problems communicating with bitcoin RPC"

btc guild? I had this issue earlier. Make sure you're using your correct worker name in the client (sometimes it isnt your email or username, its whatever you named the worker) and then just give it a bit to connect.

No I'm just trying to mine solo for the moment. Followed this http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=10438.0

But now I messed up and have to download all the blocks again.

understand that if you solo, you probably will not make ANYTHING for a couple of months.

That is the wrong way to look at it. If you mine for an entire year non stop you will receive the same amount of coins if you did it solo or in a pool. The only advantage of a pool is receiving more frequent albeit much smaller payouts. On top of that, in some pools you have to pay a fee further reducing your payouts.

Elaborating further; If you find a block of coins you get the whole thing all to yourself (50 coins), when mining in a pool all the blocks that are found are distributed to all the people in the pool that contributed to finding it. This is what makes the currency so democratic. As you increase miners, the difficulty of finding coins is automatically increased, which is why it was much much easier to find coins before this whole thing took off.

After creating an account you have to create a worker which will be your username with an underscore and then a second word of your choosing.

Could some one pls tell me why guiminer only sees one of my 3 gpus? do i have to mine in linux to be able to use all 3? 325Mhash/s is making me QQ

Currently have guiminer running on my xfx 5870 non reference cooler. 352 mh/s. How can I tweak it for it to go up? O and I know nothing about overclocking.

Had to downgrade to 11.4, 11.5 drivers disabled 1 gpu on my 5970. Also i had to put a dummy plug on my 5870

Finally got my spare rig up and running again. Stupid raid0 drives was causing Win7 not to load the OS. Mining on a 5770. It started out at ~180 mhash/s but after overclocking to 960/600 it's mining at ~200 mhash/s. Can't get memory lower than that. Now I wished I kept my other 5770s. I could be mining at 600 mhash/s with minimal cost.
