Nah I'm not going to invest in putting together a whole different system right now but I was looking to see what kind of Mh/s I could get out of three of these in Tri-fire.

then why'd you buy 4? :) no sig so i couldnt tell how many free pcie slots you had to work with. yeah im not gonna buy a whole system either unless i can get a few hundy in a couple weeks and reinvest it. at the rate its going though im guessing its gonna be about blown over by then though.

For those using BTC guild.. is the donation to receive payout on invalid blocks worth it?

2.5% - Instant payouts without block confirmation. Includes payouts on invalid blocks!

is what im talking about.

Im confused still. I installed the official client and there is no "generate coins" option but it is downloading blocks. Then i got registered with btc and set up my worker and got the gpu client running but i cant tell....do i need to run both? is the official client only for cpu?

I bought 4 because they were $109.99 and I knew I could dump them for more than what I paid regardless of if I used them. I would of actually bought 5 which is how many I added to my cart at first but they were selling out fast.

And I have a Rampage III Extreme so technically I can install all 4 of them but I don't know if I will bother or not. I'm going to have to do some calculations to see if I'd even make back the money for them in the near future mining and also whether 4 of them would run sandwitched together with that non reference cooler without igniting on fire.

I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet but I just snagged the last four of these off Newegg a minute ago.

Nice! I looked yesterday and those were out of stock. They must have gotten a few more in. Crazy...they're not still making any 58XX cards, are they? Must be getting hold of some distributor stock or something.

recommendations on a 4x pci-e motherboard?

I bought one of these baddies last week.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130274

Ick, price went up $15 since I bought mine.

Baller motherboard, though. Allows you to install 3 cards with one slot of spacing between each pair of cards or 4 cards sammiched.

Or there's this open box Asus P7P55:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131594R

That's got the same slot layout and can't go wrong for $143 if you're cool with open box.

would one of you guys mind helping out a noobie please

I can't imagine BTC Guild gets anywhere near 2% invalid blocks, so I don't think that would be a very worthwhile thing to do.

"Generate Coins" should be under Settings. However, yes, that is only for CPU mining, so you don't want to do that anyway. When you have the client open and connected, it will attempt to download the entire block chain so it can act as a node in the system for confirming block generation, transactions, and such.

those boards can run 4 cards? the PCI-E slots don't have to be 16x?

i just figured out they removed the "generate coins" from the official client

so here's the thing i am noticing. with both CPU and GPU clients running my GPU is at 100% and CPU (quad core) is running in the middle....around 50% across all cores....

so i exit the CPU client, GPU running only, and now one of my CPU cores is pegged at 100% and the other three are idle

So what is this strange behavior and I still am not clear, do I need to run the CPU client at all? Or was it only to generate my address in the beginning and no longer needs to be launched? Thanks

a deal I had for two 5850s backed out (FML, I would've been Gigahashin'), I was gonna get them next week, so I went ahead and used the BTC I had in my wallet to get a 5770 from Amazon using bitcoins, I'll let y'all know how it goes (when I get the cards or when I have to raise all kinds of holy hell on Bitcoin.org forums, dude "seems" legit, people have ordered and got the gift card without fail so far)...

I have to get these crossfired 4800 series cards OUT OF MY FUCKING RIG NOW!!!, lol, it's been in the 90s here in VA and I'm sweatin' up a storm every time I sit in my computer chair, I can't take much more of this, the 5770 will also hash more than both cards combined...

this is my first "investment" and it comes with no out of pocket cost, how "tangible" is that non believers...? huh...? lol

EDIT: first investment successful, I decided to go with a 6850 instead of 5770, a little more hashing power, about the same power consumption and once my mining days are over I will start playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. again with it, more importantly though, dude is legit, I actually had figured the amount of bitcoins (4.189 BTC) based on a 5770, the 6850 was about $45 more (out of pocket but at that point I was happy getting a 6850 for $45 USD...lol), so back to the deal, I shopped, filled out everything until the last step, went back to the spendbitcoin.com form, filled out email, etc., once I completed the form I got the message giving me how many bitcoins it would be and the wallet address, I sent the bitcoins, then got an email with the gift card code in about an hour or so (waiting for the bitcoin payment to be confirmed), went back to Amazon and finished my transaction (actually did some more shopping and changed the order to the 6850), then paid the $45 extra out of pocket...fucking awesome...

maybe it's just an Nvidia problem...? I haven't seen it...

I tried out "polcbm-mod.exe" with my nvidia 570 last night, and yeah it pegs one of the cpu cores (the gpu is crunching though.) I see why Radeon is the choice card, it's much faster on this workload.

What should i do with the official client? i still need it for my receiving address right? just dont run it?

As someone said in an earlier post:
CPU mining is completely pointless.
Nvidia mining is completely pointless.

The cost of the power required to generate coins with an Nvidia GPU and/or a CPU will be greater than the amount of actual coins those 2 will generate even if used together. All you are really doing is ever so slightly adding to the difficulty to get coins for everyone else.

P.S: For example a GTX570 is about as fast as an underclocked Radeon 5750.

yep, just ran the calculator

http://bitcoinx.com/profit/index.php

at 60Mhash/s which is what my card was doing in a month at. 08 dollars per kwh I would pay $17 more for my electricity and net almost zero bitcoins....LOL

uninstalled

So I turned on the client, went downstairs, watched tv with the wife for a little while, had some good conversation and snacked on some locally made sopressata, came back up to check and made (going by the current exchange rate) about $4.00.

I hope the current market stays stable for a month or so till I can mine enough to get a few hundred bucks. This is a sweet deal.

Yep, I followed his developments since the guy first posted that thread over at the official forums. I was skeptical at first but many took a chance and he proved to be legit. He is working on getting the same thing going with Newegg. The best part of it is that he offers a competitive price for your bitcoins based on the Mt.Gox previous 24 hour average. Just last night 1 coin was worth only $27.4 dollars, today they are up to $29.75.

Damn. I knew about this a long ass time ago but brushed it off. I sold 2 of my 5770 and still have one left. It's too late to set this up but tomorrow, I'll probably power up my spare rig and try out bitcoin.

so... with a ati 6970. 366 Kh/s
doing the shared mining, estimated payout for 20 minutes of work is .00828 BTC, @ $30 for simplicity, 24.8 cents. or 75 cents/hour. x24x7 = $125 per week.

shit if I owned a spam bot network I'd have to put it to work farming coins.

I'm really thinking of either buying some coins or building a mining rig. I have a bunch of shit laying around I could sell that I never use to get the cash (android tablets, T400 laptop, etc).

I get free electricity and have a really nice air conditioning unit in my home office.

That sounds like the perfect scenario in which you should just GO FOR IT! Free electricity and AC will make your mining life beautiful. Just set up a bunch of quad 5830 rigs and you're set for life.

You know if 5830's were still available I would. Unfortunately it looks like 6950's are the cheapest cards out there right now that are good for this.

Stupid question, if I want to make sure that my computer doesn't accidently reboot, when I'm on vacation under windows 7 sp1, with nis 2011 what should I do.
I haven't set anything up, but if I can get it up and running, I'll put my 5870 to good use.

getting 370 Mhash/s on my 5870 clocked at 900MHz
does that sound about right?

yep my 5870 at stock gets about 345. gonna OC tomorrow after i do a fresh windows install.

Don't forget to add -v -w128 to your extra parameters if you are using Guiminer with a 5870

A noob question, I got poclbm working, but should I be seeing anything on bitcoin.exe?

poclbm says 296657 khash/s, and bitcoin has nothing recieved/sent.

Thanks for the help.

Nah I'm not going to invest in putting together a whole different system right now but I was looking to see what kind of Mh/s I could get out of these in a tri or quad fire setup.

you should be able to get somewhere between 800-900 MH/s, I'm using a pretty wide range because I don't know how heat will affect your overclocks with them all being packed into one rig...

my friend gets 295 MH/s with his one 5830, and I think it's that exact same card...

the bitcoin "received/sent" box is for when you actually send or receive bitcoins, let's say you mine at Deepbit and your balance says 0.40 BTC, you copy your bitcoin address and paste it on the Deepbit site where it says "your bitcoin address for receiving rewards", then click send payment or whatever, THAT is when something will show up as "received" in that box (a may take a minute or two to show up), then you just have to wait for the confirmations from the network and you'll have bitcoins, that is your wallet...

screw quad 5830s, crossfire 5970s...

:D

you'll probably get around 10BTC a month with a 5770 if my math is right, at the current rate about an extra $300 in your pocket every 30 days or so...

not bad for "throwing a rig together"...lol

A quick question: What exactly is your CPU/GPU doing when it is mining? Is it solving some complex math equation for them? Solving world hunger? Looking for aliens? I mean, the processing power of all these people mining for bitcoins must be doing something....

It is verifying all previous transactions that have occurred in the network and thus makes it more secure.

That's not bad for a spare rig that's not doing anything. I can probably push 1000 MHz on the core if I drop the mem down. I have a 5850 to spare when I upgrade my entire system.

If you are mining in a pool, the pool will only send out BTC to your wallet once you mine X amount of coins. Most are only 1 coin, but I have seen some pools keep coins until you have a total of 10.

I might just go to the local MC and buy up the rest of their 58xx stock and resell for PROFIT

I'd buy 2 5830s off you slightly over retail. No way I am paying $200+ for one that some of these whackos are asking lol

Damn things have gone mad, I noticed retailers are upping their prices so I just jumped on a 6970 :(
