Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

I'm no expert, but I'm willing to bet the only difference between his copper block and my nickel plated block is the plating itself. Under that nickel plating is a copper block, just like his, so if there's a manufacturing defect of only a half mm then that would cause a big problem.

If you want to try what I did, just pull out the mounting instructions and get pads that are double the thickness that is listed for each area. Actually, what I did was take the remaining pads I had left from mounting three blocks and that was enough to cover it for me.

It's clearly a copper block.

yeah, sorry, I jumped the gun...saw the logo and facepalmed

I'm going with a bad mount until we hear more, might not be a bad idea to pull the block cover while its off and make sure there isn't crud from the previous owner's loop in the block

have had nothing but problems getting "verified" with mtgox, ever since their shit got hacked. they're telling me my drivers license is expired even though I have the 4-year extension sticker on it (i included a picture of the rear of the license with the holographic sticker affixed)

done with them, gonna try bitstamp from now on

Dunno what to say -- I'm new to mtGox myself -- I was verified in 24 hours, including just using a PDF screen shot of my cell phone bill as proof of whatever they were wanting.

Either way -- I'm small time, It's taken me about 1.25 months to mine 65 dollars worth of BTC.... i trade them in for money when I reach about 1.5-2.5 BTC. (as long as the price is good)

Any working money I have I keep it stashed in Dwolla, paypal is feel happy and 25 cents for a transaction from Dwolla is more than fair.

right now my A/C is down on one side of the house, just for kicks I added up and told the wife how much money I had lost by not mining since it went out, she no longer thinks it's funny.

I have a referrence XFX 6950 and EK FC6970 water block, and was getting horrible temps until I took the block off and used a bit more thermal paste. Has been running cool ever since, so def. try a refit.

EDIT: ah, i see it is the copper one. I have the see-through nickel plated one.

So Coincard shut down :( What's the best way to get USD for BTC now? Anyone else do amazon payments?

I have my BTC send anything I mine to mtGox -- you can sell directly on mtGox for USD -- from there I Have that money sent to my Dwolla account.

Easy as pie :)

For a small fee, you can send them to my MtGox account and I'll paypal you the money. No large ammounts though...

I have been using Mt.Gox and then using BitInstant to transfer everything to PayPal.
They do charge about 6% in fees however :(

THE BIGGEST 15 BITCOIN MINERS ARE *DRUMROLL* Botnet Owners, seriously what a joke. Your letting criminals control what should be a earth changing movement into a slush fund for hackers and malware writers.

For those writing Bitcoin miners into their malware I hope you die.

What? Where did you hear this?

Come on. You seriously don't know? Don't kid yourself buddy it's a dark and cold world.

The top 15?? Do they all solo mine? if not point them out in the pools... How many Gh/s do these people have? If they do solo mine then you should be able to find them in the block chain, getting 50BTC transactions from random addresses. And they would have to have a PILE of bots....

Am I doubting that there are NONE out there? No. But I have a hard time with the top 15...

Its not like it would be a typical botnet either, bitcoin mining would be intensive enough on a person's computer to know they've been zombified, its not like a botnet for spam mail or DDoS attacks.

Want to make a bet? I'll be right in the end I know that much. Some are in pools, some are solo mining but most in pools I DO BELIEVE. 15% #1 botnet the new khelios botnet has of mining GHZ's that's a guess on my part. maybe conflicker botnet is 1st who know's I imagine conflicker is up there.

Guess what? One botnet that is BCmining is doing it over TOR. That is fact, there are probably more doing it over TOR.

I will bet you any money you like every piece of malware out there now has a bcminer coded into it, 10 lines of code is all it takes my friends.

WRONG!!! They don't know lol, come on most people wouldn't even know what malware is let a lone a botnet.

The top 15 miners are botnets, with out a doubt. Look at the block chain if you don't believe me. You can see it if your eye's are wide open. Study Mtgox trades and you will see it.

I don't get what you are trying to say. Are you saying the top 15 miners have zombie computers running mining software all connected to their pools?

Bingo...

It's the new Spam ware, but instead of zombieing boxes to spit out shit loads of spam, they are using a shit load of computers to push out crappy amounts of Hashes. That's gotta be one hell of alot of comps doing mostly CPU mining which is about as efficient and me doing it on paper...

wow, well with proof like this it must be true

Exactly....its a given that most people don't know the first thing about computers but if your running CPU mining on a computer its gonna crap that computer out for other tasks and those people at the very least are gonna use their computers even less, pay hundreds to have geek squad look at it, or buy a new one.

Until you can back your tinfoil theories up with some facts, your just trolling.

Do you know anything about Malware? It doesn't look like it! I suggest you do some research my little friends.

If they were CPU mining the computer would be just about unusable. they would probably shut it off or have their nephew look at it...

However, if they are not CPU mining but using a video card, this could go somewhat unnoticed. I use to play Rift and world of warcraft WHILE mining -- while my performance was degraded it wasnt like 100% cpu utilization. games were playable, computer was very responsive for other tasks like surfing the web, etc.

I also think CPU's are so pitiful for mining they would need 4000+ computers mining at full speed 24x7 just to get one coin a day. One coin a day is what someone would get with like 10 $100 5850's.

even if this were true the advent of the ASIC miners will kill them, it won't even be worth administering the net

FUD

Wow - there really are some tards out there. One idiot says something stupid about botnetting bitcoing mining, and then more idiots pipe up and start yammering. Do some of the people here not know that MOST solved blocks come from pools - hence the person that actually solved the block is generally a "random" address.

Anyone that designs and deploys a bitcoing mining botnet using either CPU or GPU to hash - would design the mining in such a way that it would be (mostly) unnoticeable. Why would anyone want to take over 10000 PCs and assign CPU priority to the highest effectively freezing their PC when one needs to do work. You assign it idle priority so that nobody notices. Why choke the life out of the botnet PC's right out of the gate when you can take it a few notches slower and benefit long term.

If mouse.movement -> stop mining for 30 seconds else resume
if keyboard.input -> stop mining for 30 seconds else resume

Personally Id love be in control of a bitcoin mining botnet -- would make the 1700Mhash/sec I'm getting look like child's play.

just some random math - I would guess with the "average" PC you might get between 100-200 KILO hashes per second. i'm willing to bet the majority of mom and pop Pc's don't have dedicated GPUs.

my i7 gets something like 500 kHash I believe.

So lets' just assume 200kHash per PC, so it takes 5 PC's to generate 1 megahash/sec. Standard 7970 can do between 550-650 Mhash depending on clock speed.

So you'd need a little over 3000 crappy desktop computers just to do the work of one video card. If it's an effective botnet that spreads -- if 100K people are infected in the world.. that's like having 33 radeon 7970's chugging full speed without costing you a penny in power. I'm at work and don't wnat to pull up the bitcoin profitability chart but at todays difficulty and value... thats a crap ton of money per month for spending nothing/doing nothing .

I put a 7970 in an ancient P4 PC and surprisingly it is working! Dell and their proprietary ATX connector has me running the system off two PSUs.

q8pho.jpg

hehe nice, and the P4 isn't bottlenecking that beast of a GPU? :D

I don't think so! I was pushing about 670 mhash stock and I did some mild overclocking and it was up to around 690.

I have so many of these machines and no use for them. If I only had as many video cards.... I rent an office with free electricity.

P4 is more then enough for Bitcoins.
You may want to down clock the memory.
I will help with lower temps and unnecessary over clocking of the memory

Wow, value dropped all the way down to $9.74 on MTGox today. I hope it comes back up, I am hoping it'll hit close to 15 again.

it will, I admit I am surprised though, I thought the single digits were gone for good

So I just started back up on my 7970, what do I use for my wallet and namecoin wallet? I haven't done this in forever so I'm kinda lost. And also do I need to add anything into the "extra flags" box on GUI Miner? Or is there a better miner out there these days? Last time I did this was when GUIminer was brand new....

-k phatk AGGRESSION=7 VECTORS BFI_INT FASTLOOP=false WORKSIZE=128

works for my 6950s

what I do is just pay out my pool account to mtGox\

if you want to be really secure you have to create your wallet in an offline liveCD environment and NEVER put it on an online box

Does anyone still mine? Thinking about starting again since its winter.

Is the difficulty high? Have the number of bitcoins per block been halved yet?
