OK, so here is the question. I've been running my evga vm with -advmethods -smp 8 -verbosity 9. Today I picked up an A1, ugg.

Anyways, I shut down the vm, restarted but used -bigadv -smp 8 -verbosity 9.

It's still I ishing the current A1 right now, am I correct to hope that it will download a bigadv unit after it finishes this damn A1?

Ok, hope that works that easy, I'm gonna get a bigadv time and the compare to Tobits OS

how to I tell it to stop after that unit? Without losing the current unit? It will d/l while I'm sleeping so I won't have access to the vm until it's a few percent in
I know I need that flag, but what exactly is it and when/how?

How can bigadv download an A1? I thought bigadv was only bigadv?

The assignment progression is: -bigadv --> advmethods --> normal

So it looks like there is a shortage of -bigadv so it is stepping down to the next level of units.
 
and I was advmethods, so does that mean they are out of other units?

You do not need to specify the -advmethod when using the -bigadv flag.
The client only uses one of them, and it is random which one sometimes.
Since it defaults from -bigadv to -advmethods, having -advmethods is not necessary.

Basically here is what is happening if they are out of -bigadv units:

Vaulter: Hi, I want a SMP1 -bigadv unit
Server: Sorry, I am all out of those
Vaulter: Oh, well how about a SMP1 -advmethod work unit.
Server: Sorry, I am all out of those (I don't think there are any SMP1 units in advmethods currently)
Vaulter: Oh, well how about a SMP1 standard work unit.
Server: Sure, here is a SMP1 A1 unit

You forgot the part where my good friend PPD walks in and the scenes cuts to black and white as Server looks over at PPD. Then, Server walks over to PPD and the scene fades to black. Upon return, you see PPD in the fetal position and Server going "This never happened"

You're not sure why but you have this sinking feeling that PPD just took it dry

Anyways, I know not to ise both, but I pulled an A1 while advmethods and he pulled an A1 bigadv, thats a bad sign?

(And in light of recent events, thats actually a pretty bad joke, but I always try to laugh at life)
 
Just for comparison, I have 4 regular SMP2 clients running. Today, two of them, one Linux and one Windows, got stuck crunching A1 work units. Let's just say my PPD took a nasty dive. From the look of things A3 and A2 units are probably somewhat scarce at the moment. My other two clients have grabbed A3 units tonight but I don't normally see more than one client running A1s at a time.

That said, I couldn't tell you the last time I saw an A2 unit on my Linux client. It's either crunching A3s or A1s, but never an A2. If it's not going to pick up A3s, I really wish it would grab A2s since the PPD is usually somewhat close.

 
Hmm, apears it pulled a big unit fine, or I'm getting 34 minute TPFs on the slowest A1 ever lol

good for 24k, damn I wish I was bigadv stable at 4.0, or 3.9 like I was in A3

Hopefully Tobit's OS will help me drop this time a bit

Hard to test -bigOS myself when I keep getting A1's and I just got one of the worst offenders, a p2665. :eek:
 
thats what I got lol, thank god I snagged this big unit and didnt get stuck in a nearly two day A1 spree like last time
 
Seems where all getting them. kinda glad im not the only one. All A1's should go to team 111065

Even though i'll probably regret saying this both my core i7 boxes are happily munching on a bigadv unit and my other Core 2 Quad rig which i'm using to qualify for the bonus is happily munching on an A3 WU. Life is good *knocks on wood*.

Back in October, I did the same thing until I found out you can do it with other SMP units as well and then I sped up the process. In effect, I think I had 5 or 6 -bigadv WUs without the bonus instead of 10. The PPD was still slightly better than running regular A2 WUs.

ya exactly. The ppd is slightly better then a standard A2 WU so i figured it would take no time. Then I lost 2 nearly complete Bigadv WU's tweaking some overclocks and as a result I'm slightly below 80% completion on my passkey. So I kicked my desktop quad core into action and it's already completed 5 WU's. I should be bonus eligible now. One of my machines is without a passkey because i'm not sure if it's 100% stable yet, it'll get a passkey when it's a good computer.
 
You guys have 1 day to get all of the A1 out of the queue so I don't start picking them up with my bigadv boxen... :)

The only time I want to see A1 is when I'm eating steak. :D
 
But you can get more steak if you get cheaper steaks, thus A1!

Is varying time normal on a dedicated boxen? I'm on XP64 to keep system resource use to a minimum, running the 1.1 vm, system doesn't do anything but bigadv, nothing. I see times anywhere between 34 even all up to 36 and some change

is this normal? Also, temps in the high 50's usually, that's cooler than A3s lol

Yeah, TPF goes up and down anywhere from seconds to a minute or two sometimes when you refresh the HFM window...I wouldn't worry about it.

I may do the same if I end up building another i7...run XP64 on it to keep it stripped down and just running the VM. (I would only buy 6gb since it'd be a dedicated box)

You need Tobit's -bigOS. TPFs vary by 10s at the most. :cool:

It sounds like it'd probably be as simple as linuxrouter's though and if that's the case I can deal with it. :)
Still need to work on an oc though anyway which I'd have to do in Win.

I really don't want to add another $369+ to a CC with a several K balance but the imaginary devil on my shoulder keeps poking me saying DOOOOOOOOO IIIITTT! :D

Did you see that linuxrouter now has a native install of Linux? His might be slightly easier to use as his has the fancy web interface and so forth.
