Well Today I noticed my card (Diamond 3870) was running hotter than normal at idle (35 degrees C as aposed to 25) so i took it out like i normaly do, i ground myself before i touch anything, take off my accelero s1 and put some more arctic silver on it, put it back on, and..... its not getting anything. When i have a montior plugged into it, the comp boots but its not shoing any image, and its not the monitor because i have 2 and neither one works.. so im guessing something happened to it. (no i did not use thermal adhesive on my ramsinks so the warranty isnt void)
Anybody have any experience with the diamond return policy and if they will send you a new card?
 
you could have just mounted it wrong and shorted something out. i'd guess that if you remounted it again, everything would work fine afterwards. i had similar issues with a big aftermarket heatsink on my 7800GTX and i was all but sure it was fried, but after re-mounting, everything was fine.
 
Did you clean off the old AS5 before putting more on? Cause you should never just put more on. That would be a no-no.
 
Of course i cleared it off.
everything is plugged in correctly, i do not have another board to test it in, maybe ill take it over to my uncles 2day and try it in his board.
 
Did you CLEAR CMOS? Your card upon removal could of been redetected as a different 3870 once yo reinstalled...This can make a no boot problem(blank screen if Bios reset things upon reinstalling card) Also unplug the Display before you install the DVI connector and then make shure its turned on BEFORE you boot the PC ,This way the 3870 will detect the Display and Vise versa..This will reset your display to reconize the card.When you simply forget to unplug display it can set wrong signal from card and not be detected..

You never know...

edit..... how this is stupid, its working now, i took the accelero off and put it back on. i guess it was shorting something.
 
Haha, glad you figured it out. :)

Ran into a similar problem yesterday.. moved a X800Pro to another PC, worked fine, went back into the PC to yank out a wireless card, and didn't get shit on the display. Disconnected and unplugged the monitor's DVI connection, nada. Switched to VGA and got an image. Problem? The DVI connection was probably loose when I pulled the PC forward to yank the wireless adapter out so it defaulted to the VGA output. Duh..

haha pain noob :p
but my temps are higher now for some reason, they were like this until i switched cases. im idling at 30 degrees now as i used to idle at 25. and i have 2 fans instead of one now. maybe its because my rocketfish is basicly a fully enclosed case.
 
If your using a Fresh Batch of As5...Give it time and the temps will go down......Recomended 4-5c after a 120-180hour on off cycle of Pc,sometime even sooner.....Usualy i see a differance of temps with in a few cycles of the Pc .


The GPU temps can be almost the same @idle compared to stock,,But once you crank the Oc thats where the thermal paste will shine with Lower Oc temps;)...


NOTE:
The more As5 you put on the longer it takes to get your final lower temps with As5....

P.S.,,
For instant low temps i use MX-2 on GPU's especialy if im gonna use water...As5 works real good with Air ;)

We need a jingle like that for AS5, Just a dropful of artic to make the heatsink go down. hmmmmm PATENT!!!
 
well, i have another problem, after i solved that problem my video kept going fuzzy and turning different colors then go blank, i shut it down asap, and i boot if back up in about an our, it happened again 2day so i took my card out again and took off the accelero. soon to find my problem which i have no freaking clue how this is possible, but in the top left corner my gpu core is chipped.... idk how in the world that happened. i should be sending it back to diamond soon.

Oh man, back in the day of 300A celerons... I had finished going through the bios and getting it set up to 400mhz before I tried a dry run on Quake2, it was fairly dusty in the area I was working on so I unplugged everything, blew it out, replugged everything in.

The damn thing wouldn't boot, WTF?! I went through hours of trying new video cards, sound cards, memory and even re-mount the proc, low and behold it was the motherboard connector that didn't snap in all the way and the connecters probably weren't touching... 4 hours down the drain because I didn't do the basics and check ALL plugs :D
