EDIT: Just in case you're confused, this is not an Xbox. ;)

Look at all that profanity. w00t! Sad little girls crying in the chat, love it.

I chased some bastard all over place and finally killed him with this little guy tonight. He cried and cried and cried.

The console vs. PC comparison is impossible to make.

Microsoft controls DirectX which means they control how advanced the graphics can get. Graphics improve on the PC by bringing out new features and generally not raw horsepower. DirectX 9 & 10 lasted forever. When prior to that, it was boom, boom boom... with improvements. 9 & 10 pretty much encompass Microsoft's foray into the Console market. (DirectX 1-8 covers a period of 6 years, about 1995-2001, while 9 & 10 cover a period of 7 years, about 2002-2009)

So raw horsepower via hardware is the primary way that PC graphics can advance.

Microsoft is basically in competition with itself. It can release better DirectX versions essentially for free (or I'm sure there's some licensing for development) and then have no control over gaming revenue after that. They have to compete directly for your dollars with other publishers. Or it can convince you to move into an xbox where they control it all and get a cut accordingly from competing publishers. And you'll still probably own a PC at home anyway. Not as powerful in hardware, but MS doesn't make money from that. As long as you have their current OS, and an Xbox, they've made out huge.

Yeah, most of the time I ignore the text chat, it just gets in my way with whining. :)

As far as graphics go...there is zero comparision. I have it on PS3 and PC....

As far as expereince goes...I enjoy it much more on PS3. I like kicking back on the couch with my controller (yes I prefer this for fps, sue me) and running amuck.

The only problem I do have with this game is what one mentioned is on that larger conquest maps the infantry number gets cut down because of vehicals. But on the other hand on the PC with larger players sometimes I play and just spawn die spawn die spawn die.

The overall gaming industry is fine b/c consoles have expanded the market and everyone between 10yrs old to 80yrs old has access to it.

The PC gaming industry is crap b/c consoles are it weighing down.

I own a desktop. I work for a Fortune 500 company that in generally has laptops for every single computer it uses. A decision that was made in the last 5 years.

I set up more and more iPhones and iPads every day that in general are just replacing a desktop.

We all know the cost of gaming on laptop is twice as much as building the next desktop and we all know how well BF3 would run on a tablet or iPhone.

That being said I am not pissed at those devices.

You can't solely blame the decline of PC gaming on console. Things like a swift to cheap mobile computers/smart phones and piracy which is completely consumer driven drive down PC gaming.

So in the last 5 years of gaming I have not seen this, I am waiting for that to materialize. So far all I have seen is various games go console only, the average price of new AAA titles increase from $50 to $60. Games like crysis go from pinnacle graphics in one version meant for PC to mediocre cross platform tiles. The overall quality drecrease and bugs increase as developers are splitting their efforts between typically 3 and as many as 5 platforms. I have seen acceptable framerates in games go from 100 down to 30. I guess the competition is good for someone but it's not me.

Also the major selling point of a game like BF3 is realism. A big part of realism is graphics. So ya graphics are important. I mean there is a reason people have gravitated toward modern warefare and it aint the gameplay.

Games go console only because of the piracy (can only blame other PC gamers for that) and the fact that people are more willing to spend money on consoles. Years ago all you needed was a CD Key and bam it was easy to sell games on a second hand market.

Now because of faster internet speeds and the cost of those services driven downwards you have piracy that is widespread and the use of a steam account or always on DRM completely kills the second hand market for PC games.

Games for the N64 were about 75 bucks when I grew up and that was for about 5 hours of gameplay and a local multiplayer. Fire that bad boy up and tell me how long you would enjoy playing it. Probably not longer than 10 minutes.

Games that are 60.00 dollars today are way to low and you have development quality that goes along that thread. Because lets face it. That same 75 dollar StarFox game 10 years ago was a 10 out of 10 on review scores.

5 years ago I bought a movie ticket for 6.00. Now it is close to 10.00 or a 40 percent increase. Food prices are the same way. Mountain Dew costs about 4.25 for a 12 pack whereas 5 years ago that could be had for 2.50.

Games? 17 percent increase.

People gravitate those MW3 because of marketing and the number of people playing it. You can be sure when the next MW4 comes out the servers will be stacked and like WoW it is almost universal because of marketing.

When the average gamer thinks of a FPS chances are they think of COD series and they recommend that for other people to play. It is like WoW.

I don't fault MW3. MW3 brought a lot of people into FPS gaming that may have never tried to genre otherwise.

I work with 50 year dudes that didnt even know the term FPS till MW series.

Or...

It's easier and cheaper to setup a console. To build or buy a decent gaming rig, you need to not be retarded. Thus consoles opened up a huge opportunity for developers to make bank. So they took it, so I can't really fault them for that, since that's how the world currently operates.

That isn't the case at all. Most of the people on here build computers and yet hardly any of them now how to fix computer problems. It is similar to me installing a laminate flooring and then trying to be a flooring installer. The problem with that is no one will let me into their home because I have no references or no training.

Similar to how people take computer advice from people without knowing who they are.

You see a theard where someone is like "My computer shuts down"

Then you have responses that are:

- It is overheating get a better CPU cooler
- Replace your power supply
- Replace mother board

When the correct response could be:

"Turn off reboot on errors or enable error reporting and check logs"

I can tell you for sure that Piracy in my games has gone down. As you said people used to be able to just pass around a CD key. Authentication with products like steam has meant more people need to get a legit copy of the game if they want to play with others online. Piracy is only one small reason developers target consoles the bigger reason is that Americans have always gravitated toward low buy in price and bending over for the rest of the time. That is why we have cheap phones but pay more overall for service. We buy consoles cheap at first then suffer in the long run with low quality and over priced games and accessories. Printers and over priced ink, need I go on and on. Development of consoles is more about the increased customer base, and of course the fact you can sell one person more than 1 copy of a game if they want to enjoy visuals on a PC, then play with their other friends on xbox, and still other friends on PS3. There is plenty of piracy on consoles as well.

I do not care about inflation because the difference is the game industry has been growing massively over the last 10 - 15 years and they have been plenty able to offset any inflation with increased volume. The average wage of workers in this country has been pretty flat. The theater business has on the other hand been declining as more and more of them close. Their rental business has been attacked by netflix and redbox so right or wrong they decided to that ticket prices had to go up to offset the revenue decrease in volume and rentals.
