BF2 freezing with x850xt...help?

Hey, i have been playing BF2 with my new rig with an x850xt, pd805, asus p5nd2-sli board, and 1 gig of pqi turbo memory. Usually about 20 minutes to half hour or longer playing time, it will just freeze, nothing you can do no response to keys or anything. So i reset and start playing again, it goes fine and then will do it again sometimes. I am running it on high settings with no problem. I tried turning the fan speed up to 100% but still did the same thing. The drivers i have installed came on the cd with the card, but i am getting latest ones now. Any suggestions, or help please?
 
might want to look into getting more memory(may not help with the hardlocks but may help with smoother gameplay) BF2 is still a buggy game that ea would rather sell expansion packs than fix so keep that in mind if you have issues

Deffinetely try the new drivers.

I haven't had this problem with my card, but i'll make sure to test it later tonight.
 
Could be that the video card is overheating and locking up.

I have the same card right now, waiting for my x1950xtx to come in the mail, and I was overheating and locking up quite frequently before I changed the cooler on the thing.
 
Well, it also has been doing this in cs, which is odd. And yes i am going to try with new drivers, i will post back.
 
heat for sure, the x800 xt pe ran at 80c, after arctic cooler low 40 c. keep room temps like 70 f. those cards run really hot, so get rid of the heat.
 
Uggh it's still doing it, even with new drivers and fan speed cranked all the way, i even tried shutting the sapphire trixx software off but nothing. I also ran 3d mark but got to like the 4th scene and same problem. I guess its heat. Anyone reccomend any coolers, or should i put ice in like 50 bags so no leaks and set it on it, i know its not a good idea, anyone have some makeshift cooling ideas? I love my bf2 =-/
 
arctic cooler works great. my brother put one on his X850XT AGP card.
 
Is the arctic cooler still loud[er?] than the stock one?

Can you still control fan speeds with it?
 
Remove the side of your case, then play a game, and see if it does it then, and if it does do it, see if it does it within 20 minutes or if it last longer than 20 minutes.

If it doesnt do it, chances r its heat related, if the game lasts for 1 hour and then does it, its probably also heat related.

If it still does it within 20 minutes with side of case off, then its unlikely to be heat issue...

I would add that he should point a fan or something at his open case as well.
 
Well, its funny, i have been playing with my case open since the build, i havent gotten around to getting it out of my room where my pc used to be. There is a fan right here i will try pointing it right in the case.

Its not memory or drivers. Your problem is heat or power related (either one can cause this) Check all cooling fans and monitor CPU and graphics temps as well as system voltages.

Case in point: My Athlon 3200+ system would freeze in games (but didn't have to be a game per se) and a reboot was required. I setup a second monitor and put temp and voltage monitoring in the window and played games until it locked again, my 3.3v voltage was the culprit, the way I detected it was basically since my video would freeze in both monitors and I could see the last value the monitoring app displayed when the freeze took place/locked. (I placed the motherboard voltage/temp monitor application in the second display screen so I could watch it while playing games).

My problem was a low voltage like 3.15v on the 3.3v side. After finding this, I took my system apart and found burned/discolored connector pins on the motherboards power connector. Basically, I had to replace the pins and wire in a different power supply connector to fix it.

If you find that you have a similar problem, I would recommend a new system board and PSU combo. If you are not qualified to solder on a motherboard, it's too easy to mess up when soldering.
 
Well, wtf, i was playing tonight and monitoring gpu temp on another screen and it stayed stable around 60-70 deg. So it must be PSU right?
 
OH, i think i should mention that i am using a 20 to 24 pin adapter for the PSU. I did not want to buy a new one so bought the adapter instead. Im not sure on the wattage, it does not say on it, but it came with a case i got maybe a year or to ago.
 
I dont think it supports my board, p5nd2-sli, atleast i did not see it on the list and i let it fully populate =-/ Any other software?

I think we found your problem.

I load at 60Cish and i'm fine.

What's your PSU?
 
I also forgot i had the disc that came with the mobo so i installed ASUS Probe II, i was monitoring voltage along with temp playing bf2 on another screen but i do not know what to look for in the voltage if something is going wrong.
 
Use the monitoring app like you are, in teh second screen. Play games until it freezes, write down the vaolues it gives you for all your voltages. Post those here and we will be able to tell.

I would really suspect the 20-24 pin adapter on a 350 W PSU and the latest motherboard CPU combo.
 
Well, i was just playing cs 1.6 while monitoring both temp and voltage. I think we can now elminate the temp part because it was staying around 40 deg C and still crashed. On the voltage part, when it crashed the values read...

vcore-1.33v
+3.3-3.23v
+5.0-4.95v
+12.0-11.39v
cpu-59 deg C
cpu fan- 2721 rpm
fan power-2812rpm <huh?

Oh i forgot to mention, before i started up cs, pc probe was alarming me and saying warning:+12v and did it once during game too.
 
Honestly, none of the voltages look to be the cause.

Try to get an RMA on the motherbaord, I have a hunch that it has some bad components on it.
 
When your PC is at idle, it consumes far less electricity. When you load up your CPU, it stresses things like voltage control circuits which contain things like MOSFETS and capacitors. If you have a bad one of those, it's going to show up under load, but it can be ok during idle. Same thing with video cards, load them up, and any weakness in the power circuitry, its going to show.
 
I guess i will try to just replace cpu board vga and the ram, with the same parts and go from there.

I don't think the PSU is the problem, I think it's the sys board.

BTW: The Thermaltake 430 is not worth the money, I'd do the RMA for no cost first.
 
Hmmm...well, glad it's working then. I guess some things are still a crap shoot.
