Alright, so I've decided to start playing the BF2 demo on my Alienware laptop before I buy it to see if it runs smoothly on it. So far I've tried everything. Googled myself to death, tried running as admin, set compatibility to WinXP Service packs 1 2 & 3, checked the box in properties to run as admin, then right-clicked the game to run as admin as well, and it WILL NOT WORK!

My Alienware specs are in my signature.

Does anyone have the faintest clue why I cannot play BF2 demo? Now I'm scared to even buy the game and waste $15.

Should run just fine, I have never had trouble running the full game on my sig rig. Could be because it's the demo and not the fully patched game. What happens? It doesn't start, crash?

im a member of notebookreview.com they have really good forums on alienware laptops. if you post over there you are gonna get this list.

have you tried different versions of your video drivers drivers?
is stealth mode turned on? (this can really kill performance)

this game should run. it runs fine on my alienware m17x. mine is same specs as yours but i have crossfire 4870s as my vid cards and the game runs fine

It crashes as soon as I try to run it. It worked once, then never did again. Stealth isn't on, and how would I go about patching it?

Would my video card matter? I mean this game is ancient.

make sure you have the latest drivers for it. are you running 64 bit windows? i dont know if this will affect it or not.

maybe just try to reinstall the demo and see if that does anything.

i just googled it and read that this demo had a lot of bugs in it. and with the demo you are not getting any of the patches that were released for the retail game that fixed any problems that the game may have had

your computer can run the game though

I AM running 64 bit. I reinstalled the demo and it did nothing. I'm going to update my drivers and see if that does anything. I would go ahead and buy the game, but I need to make sure (I'm anal about this stuff >.>). Thanks for the help, guys. I'll try this out and see what happens.

the demo was riddeled with bugs. there are tons of patches and everything. i believe some user created patches that fixed stuff too

yea, demo is so old now it's not going to run right even if you can. There is no reason why the game shouldn't run, people play BF2 on Vista/7 in 64bit

As if someone was trying to tell me something...

I went to download BF2 from Gamestop (The entire collection). Come to find out, I was charged three times. I called customer support, and they said their servers are down.. and I didn't get to download it. Fortunately, the guy I spoke to was nice and said he'll give me my money back, plus the game for free once their site is back up.

A word of warning:: DO NOT try to buy anything from Gamestop right now, or you'll get charged a few times and NOT get your game. He said to wait a few hours and it should be back up. Just thought I'd like yall know.

Looks like it doesn't matter, as you're getting the entire collection for free (according to gamestop), but for anyone else looking to buy BF2, you no longer have to purchase the entire collection. Only buy BF2 and Special Forces.
Armored Fury and the European expansions are now provided free from EA. They are in patch 1.5 if memory serves correctly.

I've heard of people having trouble running BF2 on Vista/7 but despite installing it on 3 different computers I've never had a problem.

I thought it was the other way around(No BF2 demo). My bad.

When playing BF2 on Windows 7, it seemed I could only get correct textures if I turned off Aero before starting the game.

Make sure you aren't forcing your desktop refresh rate to something strange. Try setting it to 60Hz.

Yeah, make sure you are using patch 1.5. It adds Vista support, which means 7 support.
