BF2 1.4 Released

After my first round I got ejected from the server for having "modified files".

Then it crashed to desktop about an hour later.

God damn you, Dice... And your shitty game.

On the bright side, this is the first incremental patch to have ever worked for me. So at least I didn't need to download 600 megs before being crushingly disappointed yet again and never playing the game until the next patch.

You'll find that incremental patching always causes problems of some kind. The best way to prevent this is to just use the giant 500 meg patch and if you still have probelms, uninstall the game and then repatch using only the new full patch.

So uhh... the C4 throw distance has been reduced, too. Seeing how you could only just about drop C4 at your feet before, does this mean when I throw it, it's going to stick to me and I'll have to go Jihad style on some tanks?

Actually , in 1.3 you can still throw C4 pretty easily with a little work. You could actually throw it FURTHER than you could in the 1.2 patch. Trust me, this is a good thing.

Also, the reason they focused on the prone spamming in this patch is because of the hit box registration when you stand behind an object. You could literally spam your crouch key so fst that the hit box couldn't be hit at all. This makes it very hard to kill someone behind a wall or obstacle. That is why they focused this patch on that particular issue. Luckily, this patch also fixes most of the pancake (dolphin diving) crap as well.

Uninstall the game and reinstall it. It's a bitch, but it seems to work for this issue. You can backup your BF2 folder under my documents to backup your profile. Also make sure that you update with the full patch and not the incremental.

I have already done just that. The crashing at 62% didn't start happening until after I re-installed and used the full patch!

I guess that you're going to have to wait for the hotfix patch that should be released soon like all the other patches. ;)

Just a quick question. How the hell are some people so good at fly the friggin planes? If you are on the ground and watch some of the planes, it's unbelievable the maneuvering they are doing. Are they using a joystick or something when they get in the planes? It pisses me off in some of the maps. You can literally be ass raped, parden my words, the whole time in a map by the darn planes. you will have like 10 points and the people in the planes like 100+. On top of that, you can't even take them out with the stingers cause the stingers track the flares for too long and by the time the flares are out of the way, the plane is long gone. I just don't get it. EA/Dice needs to fix something with those planes and/or add something to the maps or to the game that lets you actually take down the planes and have a chance. It's getting ridiculous i think.

The aircraft in BF games have always been a joke. Vertical bombing in '42, the indestructible helos in BFV, now the alien-tech inspired air in BF2.....

Amazing how they dodge missles.

yea, alot of people use sticks... my nephew does i guess. forget the planes though, it takes an act of god to get the fighter copters off the ground. every dang time i tried to go up in one i would crash. I have commanche3 (hellicopter sim) and its easier to fly in that game then it is in BF2.

They didn't happen to add widescreen resolution support, did they?
No. It won't happen, as stated they believe widescreen users would have an unfair advantage.

Also, just so you guys know I have a few friends who work at EA and describe the place simply like a factory, it's all about the output volume.

What like the people who have faster video cards who can run in higer resolutions with a better frame rate and further view distances.

Like the people who have all the unlocks
Like the people who have Special Forces weapons

What a pathetic excuse.

while we're on the subject, does anyone know how or where I can find instructions to set it to play at 4:3 on a 16:10 monitor? I'm using it stretched slightly, and it's not that bad, I just want to have a see what it's like with the black bars at the sides, and i'm having no luck finding any helpful material.

Well, there's
1. In your drivers panel (not so sure about ATI), you can set lower resolutions to NOT scale to the size of your screen...
For example, my screen is 1680x1050, and if I'm playing 1280x1024, it would be in the center of the screen and have black bars on the sides, as well as a little black on the top and bottom (because only 1024 out of 1050 vertical pixels are being used).

2. Get a monitor that allows you to set it up to 4:3 instead of being stretched. I have a 2007WFP and it allows me to do just that.

That's all I know of.

On the other hand, you can force BF2 to play at your resolution. Unfortunately, rather than having a larger view side-to-side (which is the advantage of having widescreen), it's the same as everyone else, except the top and bottom of the screen are cut off.
To do that, right-click the BF2.exe shortcut (wherever you have it), click Properties, and in "Target", add "+szx 1680 +szy 1050", or whatever the resolution of your screen is.

Hope that helped. :)

Is there a way to play co-op or singleplayer with the unlocks enabled? Sorry if I posted this already lol I'm just too tired to think.

Thanks, didn't think of the GPU menu itself - now all I need is to figure out why Catalyst Control Center won't* open

1.4 Works well for me (used the incremental patch) and no CTDs so far after playing yesterday evening.

However, my friend did the same and frequently gets disconnected from the game to the server list.

I haven't had any crashes either. So far so good. As far as "major" patches go this one has the least amount of changes from the previous 3 major patches.

And why did they only slow the prone>crouch but ignored the stand>prone? I understand they don't want people poppin' up behind walls and duckin' fast whilst shooting but the accuracy and firing *while* falling to prone is just ridiculous. That seems more like the problem the players were complaining about. Or maybe that's just me...

I like using keyboard and mouse for the heli's which I am not bad by any means at flying, and a joystick for jets, jets kind of piss me off though...love to hate them.

Mine patched BF2 sometimes crashes and sometimes doesn't. I don't like it.

Unfortunately, probably 95% of BF2 players experience a crash while playing. It's not uncommon and more probable than not.

All this has convinced me to take a trip to Wal-Mart and claim my copy next paycheck. :D

We'll not be held liable for the damage caused to system components due to anger/frustration over either getting BF2 to work or the associated stress of addiction to BF2. :D

Interestingly, I have yet to experience a crash or connection problem while playing POE2, even with 1.3 :D

Hahahahaha, guess what they broke now? Knifing. Knives only do damage to the head. Idiots

BUG FIXES

- Fixed the Linux server hangs when trying to load a Special Forces Co-Op map.
- Another attempt at fixing the Red/Blue nametag bug.

an attempt?! wow.

freakin patched mine and it still says 1.1.something, not 1.4 (i just bought the game)

i'm gonna try re-installing, and if that doesn't work...i'm throwing it out the window.

EDIT: didn't work, and now i have to replace a window.

Beautiful. I installed incremental, crash to desktop on launch. I uninstall the game, reinstall, download and install full patch, crash to desktop on launch. Thanks guys.

Using the rig in my sig I used the full and I haven't crashed once since and I've played a lot since I installed it. Back on the 1.3 patch I would have crashed to the desktop about 3 or so times by now.

One problem I have noticed that is more annoying than anything is that the game has suddenly "switched" out to my desktop. This is not a crash as the game is still running and I can simply alt-tab back into it. The problem is that even then it takes 10 to 15 seconds for the game to come back on once I alt-tab back to it. By then I've usually died once already and more often than not as soon as the screen gets back on I've respawned only to find myself facing another enemy who promptly kills me.

This problem hasn't happened a lot. Like maybe 3 or 4 times since I installed the patch which was on the day after it was released.

Overall I like the patch. I like the new map, Road to Jalalabad, and I like the ability of the servers to turn off vehicles. I don't understand where people are saying that the Jalalabad map is unbalanced and unfair for the MEC forces. I've played that map quite a bit recently and the MEC forces seem to win as much as lose, no matter what server I play on.

Ran into an odd issue with the 1.4 patch this weekend during a LAN Party. The patch itself woked fine, only issues were complaints on how log it takes to go prone now.
When people installed a Mod, they recived "invladi CD-Key" errors, and even vanilla BF2 would not work. For those of us that that already had the mod installed, we did not encoutner this issue. Very strange indeed.

Peace,
Tim

you had better be joking...

I'd say more like exaggerating. I had a couple of knife kills over the weekend and I didn't get them in the head. No worries.

I did the incremental patch and everything worked perfectly. This just adds to my list of things to NEVER go wrong with BF2. I must be special :D

People that play/patch/run games that work usually don't post in forums saying, "hey, my game works". Hence the perception that BF2 never works for anyone. ;) I'm with you... I have had few issues with BF2 and its stability.
