That's right, finally 1.4 has been released for BF2.

Changelog (EA UK):
GAMEPLAY TWEAKS

- The vehicle drop has been modified to help prevent exploits such as blocking enemy vehicles, destroying vehicles and commander assets, or as an alternative to artillery.
- C4 tossing distance has been reduced.
- A prone->crouch delay has been added.

BUG FIXES

- Fixed the Linux server hangs when trying to load a Special Forces Co-Op map.
- Another attempt at fixing the Red/Blue nametag bug.
- Fixed the missing server info on the map briefing screen.
- Fixed the server browser issues with updating info.
- Fixed the filter by maps size option in the server browser.
- Fixed a low reproducibility crash bug related to the vehicle drop.
- Fixed a crash in Co-op after a player is revived without a kit.
- Fixed a server crash on Linux 32 when trying to rotate maps in Coop Mode.
- Fixed the occasionnal red distance marker appearing on the ground.
- Fixed the bug that caused the player's arms to become invisible when switching weapons.
- Co-Op bot console commands now function on local servers.
- Fixed the excessive damage taken by the Muscle Car.
- Adjusted the minimum number of players to start the round on ranked servers. The new values for 16, 32 and 64 players are 6, 8 and 8 respectively.
- Re-enabled unlocks on unranked servers.
- Commander options are no longer available whilst commander is dead.
- Fixed bug where a spawn point is shown as selected when it is not if player has spawned in during the preview round.
- Co-Op (Local Server) - Fixed the issue where no other players may join the server if the server host is kicked and banned.
- Ranked Servers now force unlocks.
- Added support for multiple gamemodes in single maplist for mods.

However, the word going around is that the incremental is once again broken, not patching the localization files. Therefore, I'd go for the Full patch (530MB) in order to avoid any headaches.

Full [530MB]:
Fileshack
GamersHell
FileFront

Incremental [140MB]:
FileFront
GamersHell
FilePlanet

They forgot to balance the aircraft... good jobbie DICE.

They didn't "forget" they said it required too much coding to re-balance them.

lol.

"That's too much work. We don't want to do it."

I might try that on my boss later today. See what he says.

Lol...what a weak ass patch. I can't believe it took that long to implement those changes.

DICE's possible new slogans:

"We don't do, we try!"

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going... but we aren't tough"

"We are supposed to fix what!?"

"Ugh thats too much work and I have lunch in 3 hours"

"fuggit!!!!111!!"

It really is a great and fun Multiplayer.

We should all pick a week and not buy or play any EA games. I wonder if that would send a message. Have small boycotts.... no matter how badly I wanted to play I could always find something else that was fun.

Hope this fixes more than it breaks...

Really.. I wouldnt mind a stable bf 2...

Damn, no more tea-bagging

I guess they rather fix the tea-bagging then something that matters like the jets

ComputerBox34 you got it all wrong.
THAT IS NOT A PLANE

that is an indistructable tank with some wings glued on.

They aren't balanced. Chinese jets can take out American jets way to easy, a lot more maneuverable

It's all in the talent level. I consider myself to be half way decent flying. When you go up against a good pilot, the added speed and maneuverability can work against you as much as work for you.

You should see POE2's eurofighter - thing can take two loads of Frogfoot cannon until overheating without even starting to smoke :(

The Frogfoot itself is quite nasty, too. The bombs/cannon make tanks/apcs/choppers/ground turrets/vehicles easy prey. It's like the A10 on steriods! lol

in both BF2 vanilla and PoE2 I cant take out a chopper with a direct hit from a fucking tank shell... now THAT is a fucking balance issue... anything that flyes is hard as all hell to hit with the shoulder anti-machinery missiles and take a lot more flak shot than any real life chopper or plane could ... and they plow down any kind of person or ground machine

I personaly dont play BF2 for the flying, I preffer ground fighting but vehicals are a nice touch and well exectued, except for the flyers... the choppers and jets have turned this game into nothing but a flight sim with human ground targets... and thats crap

That is very true. I have taken choppers and planes for that matter but it takes 1 well placed shell and a ton of bullets. It is stupid...

4get the balancing though because it would be too much work 4 DICE.

After my first round I got ejected from the server for having "modified files".

Then it crashed to desktop about an hour later.

God damn you, Dice... And your shitty game.

On the bright side, this is the first incremental patch to have ever worked for me. So at least I didn't need to download 600 megs before being crushingly disappointed yet again and never playing the game until the next patch.

The first error was probably because the server you played on didn't have an updated punkbuster reflecting the 1.4 changes. I've already read some folks have had the CTD issue happen but once again it 'could' be the server-side. We shall see in the coming days...

Hm. Bit early for me to say, what with being kicked from every server I joined as my ping spiked to around 10,000 within three minutes, but I suspect that's more due to other people on the network downloading.

Also, Jalalalalabad is a horrific map.

As long as the bots are fixed (they were in the 1.4 beta patch), I'll be able to play BF2 again. DC was an absolute blast with 64 bots and 1:5 odds or so, but it's been such a pain with BF2 to get large singleplayer (coop) maps working. The 1.3 patch completely busted the bots, so I haven't played in a while.

Looks like I might get to fire up some SP again for some relaxing bot blasting action. :)

I managed to update my non-ranked (mod) servers and they appear to be running properly - The PoE2 server already has had a few people on it, and the other two should have traffic 'soon' now that school is in session.

I "should" have time to hop on and give it a whirl when I get home - we'll see how this patch goes...

Peace,
Tim

Why so? Essplain please... :D I have not played it, yet.

It just seems a bit... off, really. Once in the city it's like the SF map, the name of which I forget (SAS vs SPETSNAZ, water, apaches, hinds and city setting) but just a bit more horrible. I don't really know, it could just have been that I was in a bad mood due to massive ping spikes and my entire team being a bunch of clueless spoons, but it seems that, oddly, the MEC stand very little chance - the only server i've been on where the MEC won had the entire MEC team populated by the clan that owned it :(

Ghost Town is the SF map you're referring to. Ghost Town is my favorite SF map so if Jalalalalabad is like it perhaps I'll enjoy it. "clueless spoons" is hard to avoid in pub ranked land. lol But I like that term... "clueless spoons"... I smile :D

Yay! Another thread for BF2 haters to whine on!!!

Looking forward to the new map, :D

another CTD. This time after about 15 minutes. gg dice.
Was that the incremental or full over an existing installation or a complete unistall/reinstall with the full? Just curious.

Incremental. And now, on my 3rd try, it has just frozen & totally locked up the whole computer. That's a new one.

I'll try uninstalling and doing a full patch. If that doesn't help, I am going to sack this game for good.

I read on the Planet Battlefield forums that the incremental has given some users troubles. I'm gonna grab the full patch straight away.
