Wow, just when EA couldn't fucking create more imblance and nerf the worst shit, they did. The helicopters have had their armor reduces, range reduces and missles reduced. The result? I've become nothing more then target practices for passing jets who only loose some armor and I swear to God can bomb with more accuracy then before.

Great, 8 missles. Well woopdee doo. Not only do I have HALF the arsenal I now have HALF the chance of hitting, let alone killing another helicopter in battle. Not to mention I have to hit a tank with all eight which makes me a lovely target for that new AA missle launchers. So nice....

Thanks EA. My one skill I was good is now fucking worthless because if I so much as fart in the helicopter, I die, let alone take a single missle it from AA or aircraft which now have greater accuracy and range no thanks to you EA.

I might just give up on this game and go back to HL2 deathmatch and DOD: Source cause im getting sick of being your Battlefield series guinea pig after all these years

Pretty sure it is thanks to them, actually.

I dont fly choppers...so for once..its kinda nice not being on the recieving end of things...I love bringing them down...and get a jet kill ever once in awhile...
you should be happy..that te stinger/sam sites are pretty mush in the same place all the time...if your a good pilot..then you know where they are..and where to avoid..simple as that...the Chopper is a Standoff Weapon(defensive)

you want to take that thing in guns blazing with out thinking about your shot..then your cannon fodder...simple as that..
With the lower Hit points on the chopper it will just take some rethinking on how to Use and fly the thing..thats what the new patch was to be about..make a new challenge to the game...if its the same thing..it gets boring..change it up a bit for the good pilots..and we get to see how good they really are.

The Antiair emplacements are now a guaranteed 3 kills every time you drop a bomb on one. You know its bad when people stop waiting for planes and start running towards the AA at the beginning of the round.

It really wasnt all that hard to continue flying though. It now takes 3 direct hits from AA to bring you down, so atleast you have some time to run your ass off back to base. I still managed to go 25-0 in aviator for a few rounds on Cleansweep.

OH NOES!!!

They broke your invincible deathspam machine.

Cry me a river.

today was the first time I played bf2 in over a month because the patch and not a whole lot was fixed.
No fixed server browser, they say its fixed and all filters work but if I fill in 2 fields at the top only one of the filters applies say I put in 100 for ping and 18 for amount of players, it will find servers under 100 ping but it still shows servers with less than 18 playing, at one point no servers would come up in a second search and I had to restart bf2.
Loading times or verifying client specifically, it takes like twice as long to verify client then to load the map, I connected to 5 servers today and 3 of them as soon as it was verified there was a map change, the game ended while I sat and waited for that verifying client bull.
Just like before, my bf2 will probably be sitting on the shelf waiting for forgotten hope to be released.

i dont like the 8 missles also. but oh well cant do anything about it

or can i ? :D

HAHAHA! No offense to the OP but damn this is hilarious! A little bit of pee came out

The flak MEC copter... if I had my bud flyin and I was the gunner...

A couple deaths, and a shhhhhhitload of kills... just plain old rape. I went like 110-5 (kills and deaths) on Sharqi one time barely trying. The people camping on the TV station would just keep spawning and getting owned. Cobra never gets up... eventually they gave up and we'd go rape another flag. Way overpowered, obviously. But that's only a few maps that its in. The rest of the maps have the shit-copters... and now all that nerfing happening to them? That's kinda lame. I mean cmon.. it only take ~2 AT rockets to take a chopper down.

Its good that the helicopters are weaker now. Its retards like the above poster that just float around a spawn and shoot people before they get a chance to even think about moving, let alone get in a helicopter to at least defend themselves.

while i do think the choppers needed a little less health (i fly them from time to time but not much) i dont think they needed less missles. its hard enouph to hit shit with them other than running infantry since they have no sort of lock at all and do very little damage to armor (they where designed to be tank killers for christ sake. and lo and behold less chopper missles didnt come down from the fans it was some ceo at ea who couldnt fly a chopper and was pissed so yeh you get the short end of the stick. sorry.

I like the new 1.2 patch. I was getting so sick of the fing heli whores just blowing everyone up. An AA missile should bring down a heli real quick. You think after getting hit with one of those it should still be flying. I think not.

Maybe there is a reason for doing this.............um NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS!!!!!!! like spawn campers.

One thing i cant stand is the fning tank whores that camp at the alleys where players spawn like at the hotel in karkand.

Too bad EA didn't make the patch or the changes. Thats DICE, thank them... they are the devlopers.

I havn't had a real chance to play since the patch, I played about 15 minutes of a match. I was hopeing to get a performance, because the game runs way to slow for its own good. They had said in the patch notes that there would be a perfromance gain thanks to a new static mesh render technique. But I didn't see a framerate gain... has anyone noticed better performance? Personally I think they need to fix the performance issues, and the browser before they mess around with tweaking the settings. I'm sorry but my framerates are just horrible and shameful, and the eye candy doesn't justify the crappy performance. I'm even running it at almost the lowest possible settings, and I see little change in performance from High to Low settings.

Personally I think that choppers where way to overpowered, and I'm glad this was changed. Way too strong too, you see on the news all the time people taking out our chopper with a rocket propelled grenage....

I'm fine with the 8 missile count, but the nerfed amor should have been jets and transport copters only. It's not like a tank where you can just get out at any time and repair and AA turrets have a much greater view than the anti ground missiles.

Shut the hell up man, you were probably one of the people crying before the patch. I hate how people whine, bitch, and moan for things to get changed in the patch to compensate for the fact that they play 2 hours a week and suck ass, then call the people who get fucked over by these patches crybabies and <insert vehicle>-whores.

Being a helicopter pilot and a ground pounder, I know that the helicopters were far from invincible. It just took having at least half a brain to shoot one down. If they were able to dominate your WHOLE team with one, then you deserved to get dominated, because they were way better than you! But I guess now that the patch has been released and the attack helicopters pretty much quadruple nerfed, you can run around forums calling people crybabies and proclaming your defeat of "chopperwhores"..

</rant>

I was all for a patch making AA and SAM's better, they needed to be. But, as usual, they have gone overboard with the fix. I don't know jack about programming a missle to track in a game, so maybe it is harder than I imagine but real world physics should apply at least a little. Deflection shots and high AOA's should not be able to turn >180 degrees and hit...period. I played two rounds on the new patch and had the same feeling I got when I first played special forces..."this is crap". I will keep playing, but this is getting silly...shouldn't have planes in this game anyway. ;) Oh, and not a single Blackhawk made it from the carrier to Wake Island due to the "accuracy" of the missles. Completely unbalances that map now but turnabout is fair play.

Now this will show who is really a good pilot and who is a pilot wanna-be. No more noobs hovering around a flag (without capping the flag I might add) and killing people the moment they spawned.

These threads make me laugh. Why? Because I enjoy how everyone complains when something is changed and they blame the game and not their lack of organization. Notice how i dind't say skill, as many of you most likely do have skill. If everyone would organize a little more and operate as a squad its very east to coordinate your attacks.

Sure, helos, planes, APCs, Tanks and the like have had their hit points lowered to make them weaker. But look on the bright side. Now a guy with a SAW can't fire on a tank and damage it. Trust me, I play support a lot and used to fire on tanks whenever I saw them because I knew that I'd damage them enough to cause the crew to jump out. Now, the SAW doesn't. Sure, AAs, TOWs, and AT rockets are insanely powerful now. But in real life, they are quite deadly as well. The trick is to avoid them. Use your squad when you get a lock to hunt the source out.

Whenever I go on public servers I find it sad how everyone joins a squad but the SL does nothing to organize his SMs, I love how there is generally no CO and if there is he does nothing.

Theres a reason why the game was designed with CO's and squads in mind. Yes, its an arcade type game and not a true tactical game but the element is there. Use your rose, when you seea s niper, spot him, he'll show up on your map then you can devote some time to taking him out, use the rose to spot enemy choppers, put AA or AT on it.

You are crying because you don't organize. There is nothing wrong with the 1.2 patch. It just forces you to think like a soldier. To mind your surroundings. You don't run into a flag that is being protected by 2 tanks and an APC, you use your AT to destroy the two tanks and the APC then use your assualt and support to clean up those who got out of the vehicles before the exploded. When in a plane or a chopper you avoid the TOWs and the AA's. Or you take them out before they take you out.

And it doesn't take 1 TOW to take out a chopper, it still takes 2. But if your stupid enough to hang around after being struck by the first TOW or AA or AT rocket then you deserve to be taken out of the sky. When you get the first lock, bug out. Let your squad take the threat out then come back and drop off your passengers.

I'm still doing alright in the chopper, just not the same utter dominance I had before. I still have time to clear the AA gun's lock before they fire most of the time.

My kill count is lower than before since I have to move a lot more to not get shot. But so long as me and my partner get in firing range of the AA gun before somebody mans it(try sneaking up on one from angles it can't shoot at), we are usually able to destroy it and then ream that area.

And the missile change isn't a big deal. Normally with the old missile count, I'd kill someone and fire into the air to finish my clip and reload. It doesn't take 8 missiles to kill a tank, and I can always use my partner to kill the 2nd tank if there's two in a row. I don't fire my missiles in a salvo streak, I aim with each and land them on the target. Depending on your chopper, even or odd missiles will come out of a particular side of your chopper from a particular angle. Using the rudder to wiggle in the air lets you pinpoint your shots.

My kills are coming slower than before because I have to dodge AA guns, but I don't mind. Really, if you're on the ground pre-1.12, you were boned. AA guns were totally ineffective against me. Jets were the only thing to really kill me.

This is the pre-1.12. If there is a good Jet pilot, it will kill everything, unless there is a good enemy jet pilot to slow the enemy jet down, but there isn't always one available. If there is a good helicopter pilot, it fears the jets and good heli pilots, and can kill everything else. If you're in a land vehicle, you fear everything in the air, and anti-tank/spec-ops. If you're infantry, you fear everyone.

The Jets and the Helis were the top-tier of the battlefield. If the battle in the air is lost by your team, they roll over you. Can't even try to get better pilots into your Jets/Helis without starting a TK war. On the ground, vehicles can kill infantry, but at least the infantry can fight back.

AA guns were the main thing allowing the Ground battlefield to resist the Air battlefield. pre-1.12, my scores could reach into the hundreds without trying since the AA guns were piss-poor. What killed me most often was the closest runner-up, the jeeps and humvees, but it takes more than one to hurt me faster than I can get away.

The AA guns needed a boost. However, the helis did not need an armor reduction at the same time. That would've felt a bit more balanced.

It's interesting that all the changes the new patch has brought (better AA, no bunny hopping, less powerful Heli's, more powerful MG's) have all the "veterans" screaming EA made tha game more noob friendly. Like the above poster said. Cry me a fuckin river. Learn how to play the game straight now. For some reason most of the skilled players seem to like the changes. It's the spawn camping, base raping, TK for a vehicle assholes that are all bitching.

If you can get hit by even a single AT rocket, you are doing something wrong. Try moving and not just hovering over a spawn point.

Look, instead of acting like it's the end of the world, why not put some of that so called "skill" into learning a new way to play with the helicopter.

It's far from useless if you are someone of average intelligence. You see, machine gun shots from the chopper still kill ground troops extremely fast, missiles still deal heavy damage, and the special missile still destroys most things instantly! WOW!

So you have to reload more often now, so you have to move your ass when you hear the lock-on sound, big fricken deal.

Have an open mind. Although I feel like some of the un-necessary ranting and raving taking place is a bit much... there are still issues with the new patch that need to be taken care of... muzzle flash and sounds need to be fixed... server crashing... the inability to not throw c4 while running or jumping needs to come back... delay of proning... I think proning should be in-op while jumping but not delayed when you are just standing on the ground. I've only been able to play for 30 minutes or so last night but I was very upset. I started off having very little battlefield experience and fell in love with this game.

Thank God for the patch. *pray*

The helicopters were very overpowered. The jets were as well. Maybe this will balance a few things out. Sure both machines are very powerful in real life, but this is a game. When you can hover next to an enemy spawn point with the machine gun raking up points, its not exactly fun or realistic either.

Now I just wish they changed some of the balancing with the weapons. I had the default sniper rifle and was waiting im ambush as enemies were coming around a corner. Some guy dropped down prone and had a medic weapon. I pulled the trigger with the crosshairs right on his noggin. Hit... I pulled the trigger again as he turned to face me. Hit again in the noggin... He shot at me and hit me... I pulled the trigger again, hit again in his noggin. He shot me again and I was dead? 3 hits with a friggin sniper rifle on him vs 2 hits against me with a medic weapon and I'm the dead one.

I agree. If I have a fighting chance to hit your helo with a tank shell during a duel then you h'aint got no skills. The pilots with the skills will rise to the top. You just have to change your tactics. Just like. any good tanker will take out a TOW emplacement wether its manned or not before moving on a flag.

You idiot, we had to move before when we heard the "lock-on" sound. Even before the patch, AA and missiles were pretty much a guaranteed hit on these supposedly stationary helicopters that raped you guys so relentlessly.

The fact that they took a vehicle and nerfed it in about 4 different ways one patch to the point where it's almost impossible to be effective in battle with a halfway competent enemy is a "big fricken deal" to me. Why don't you try flying a helicopter for a while before talking shit about them.

I actually think the patch is a good thing. The
USMC Cobra is by far my favorite in BF2.
You just have to realize the real purpose of using
them.

Attack choppers shouldn't be hovering over flags
attempting to capture them. They should be on the
look out for tanks and infantry.

Having the AA guns and SAMs more powerful
makes the game rely more on a team effort.
Ground troops should be the guys that take
out the SAMs to make way for the choppers.

Now with the patch tanks and spec-ops will
actually start destroying missle sites.

I'm confused, you want to be able to throw C4? Or you want the inability to throw C4 to come back? I personally think that C4, mines or claymores should not be thrown. They are not grenades. They need to be "placed" and armed. So, throwing them is stupid.

You also think that once you get up from going prone there shouldn't be a delay? Why? When you go prone in real life you don't just automatically stand up. Theres a delay, you have to get up on one knee then kind of pull yourself up. The whole going prone in BF2 then delay of getting up simulates you getting up on one knee, hence the weapon not being "ready". You want to avoid the delay? Instead of using the jump key to get back up use the crouch key. If you use the crouch key there is no delay and your weapon is "ready" I happen to like the delay. I also like the fact that I can toss grenades farther, I used to throw them and kill myself because I couldn't throw them far enough away. I also like that the accuracy of the sniper rifle has been increased so that its now a true "one shot one kill" weapon. I like that the SAW is now a feared weapon on the battlefield. I like the fact that I can no get on a TOW and actually hit a plane or helo and destroy it. I also like the fact that a tank or APC won't take damage from small arms fire and that I can still destroy a Humbvee with an MG. This patch IMO is perfect. It doesn't give anyone person an unfair advantage. You just need to learn how to play the kit you've chosen, you now have to learn how to fly your chopper, plane effectively so as to not get shot down.

Amen. I think all areas should be equal. If you are a semi-good player you should be able to get 3-5 or more kills per death without a medic. In a tank many times you get about that on a frantic map before AT / C4 ends your run. That should go for helicopters and planes too. You should get about the same. 3-5 kills per death without repair. None of this 50-1 or even 20-1 kill to death ratio without even trying. That is unbalanced.

Now, if you are really skilled you will be able to still approach those numbers. Just takes patience and teamwork.

It made the game alot better for playing on 16 player map sets...if by 'veteran' players you mean CAL type players, they probably mainly play on 16 player map sets.

I too like the changes they've made...though my base raping in the gunner postition or armor is harder it make for a better game. Follow the teachings of T.A.T.U, if you stay "Dangerous and Moving" and "They're Not Gonna Get Us".

bf2 name = [TMC]Kuyaglen

The only reason your need to be able to jump and throw c4 is when you are using it against vehicles, and primarily armored ones.

Most special ops, like the army rangers wont even consider you unless you can jump half your height vertically and throw a brick with precision.

spawn campers, base rapers, and tk'ers always bitch because they are, in fact, assholes.

They are the bitchers that always want things easy, and instead of working to get good, they just bitch so someone will make it easy for them.

It is the same in real life.

well first off.. who thinks the game is really realistic in the first place.. is that the point.. or is it to make a bad ass game.. in reality.. one of those stingers would shred an apache.. so the fact that it takes 2 in the game is actually decent if youre looking at it in the aspect of reality.. if youre looking at it as "is this a fun .. no-frustrating game to play" then.. yea youre gonna bitch if you get shot down 20 seconds or less before you enter a hele. fact is... if youre not smart enough to not get in range or be stealthy enough to not get shot the hell down.. its probably a good thing you are getting shot down because apparantly.. YOU CANT FLY! leave it to us pilots to show your jewbies how to do it ;) midi_junkie

I'm a dedicated ground pounder (if you look at my stats you'll see that I have spent only about 24% of my playing time in vehicles), but I think AA is waaay too powerful now. I played 2 rounds on Dalian the other day (one as PLA and one as USMC) and the USMC team in both rounds could not set a foot on the shore.

The AA could hit choppers on the carrier and counter-measures are pretty much useless now.

I agree with you however how about a freaking manual that explains not only all the features of commanding a squad and also the commander role.

Regarding the patch it's about time the AA got un-neutered.

That doesn't make sense though. Taking out AA is still the same for pilots. If you have good ones that's the first thing that should happen on a map like Dalian. Then it's open season getting to the shores.also, on Dalian both teams have to spawn from their own bases. It's a shorter distance to the shore for the USMC than it is for the chinese. Players will adapt soon enough.

Icewind,

Noone on the ground trying to play against other soldiers needed to have you in your copter hovering around pounding the ground over and over again, ruining the game for anyone in the area.

If you're so good at flying then pick your battles better instead of taking advantage of a flaw in the game by being indestructable.
