Straight from the folks at EA...

Towards the end of August, we will be releasing a new patch, 1.03. This patch is currently underway and will undergo thorough testing before it goes out to avoid the problems that have occurred in the past. There are over 140 fixes and improvements in this patch. Here are just a few of them:

* Server and Client performance improvements.
* Improved Server Browser - added Favorites and History Lists.
* Point-farming prevention - game will stop Support/Medic/Engineer point farming exploits.
* Squads - locked squad leader will get a message if someone wants to join.
* Many HUD improvements - see the names of others in your vehicle, zoom level changing depending on vehicle, map zoom depending on map setup (16, 32 or 64 player map) etc.
* Teamkilling changes - the logic of how teamkills are tracked will be changed.
* Gameplay tweaks - the way transport helicopters work will be tweaked.
* Additional scoring changes - players who destroy an enemy commander's assets will be given points.

Excellent! Too bad it's over a month away... :(

did you see the video where the medic kept reviving the guy so his friend could just kill him again?

I haven't seen that video before. That is just sad how people abuse exploits like that.

Oh god, now I'm picturing armies of spec ops paradropping and whatnot to blow commander assets over and over. Hope they don't get too many points.

Glad to see they are fixing some of the problems, especially the point farming and transport helicopters. Also nice to see that specops class can now get support points by blowing up commander assets.

It's about time spec ops get damn points for doing....what they were made to do.

highjacking it behind enemy lines into their base usually takes a lot more time then "spawn here where the action is, kill kill kill."

I also wonder what the "teamkilling" scores changes mean....I HOPE it means that IDIOTS that walk over clearly marked claymores/mines, etc don't fucking get to give you negative TK'ing, they should be the ones getting the hit, not you.

Too bad it should have shipped that way.

No kidding. I destroy the commander's artillery and radar all the time. I make it a point during a coordinated assault. I'll usually drop out of a blackhawk on my own near these assests and move to destroy those things just before an attack from my team. Its nice to know that in a month I'll get points for doing things like that.

Plus the server browser is an unnaceptable pile of shit. Its good that they're putting time into fixing it. I do agree that the game should have had these things to start with.

Another grip of mine is that you can't use the passenger seat for the Humvee's or the Trucks, also the Blackhawk should allow for a co-pilot. Or at the very least allow a player to sit in that spot. That way the chopper holds more poeple.

BTW did anyone else notice a game menus performance improvement with the 1.02 patch? I sure did.

I agree with the Spec Ops points, I'm just bemoaning it.

While they're at it they ought to figure out how to get the AT guy more team points. For doing stuff like....blowing up vehicles with the AT? Also Engineers earn squat for doing stuff as well, unless they are just sitting in a vehicle like a chopper continuously.

You read my mind, I am almost always the commander and I hide in the enemy base as spec op and destroy thier stuff all the time. Bout time to get awarded for our efforts or crippling thier ability to fight!

unless they put a high multiplier on the specops demo work, it won't amount to much, at least not in my experience.

I don't think I've had to do the loop more than 3 or 4 times/round before the enemy commander gives up, or the round ends.

Additionally, there will be even more specops guys fighting over those points, which will make for some interesting TK scenarios, lol.

Good news on the tk logic, I really really really hope they're addressing friendly ramming incidents with that and helicopter crashes.

Good news on the balancing of the blackhawk whores too.

I do that all the time. It doesn't seem like too many people enjoy that as much as I do.

Yeah I should do that more as commander. Go Spec Ops. I've been going Assault lately and relying on a vehicle. Also, as Assault with the nade launcher, you've actually got a chance if 3 guys suddenly show up in your base.

I love killing the parachuters who try to infiltrate. Nothing like hitting them with an APC cannon right after they land. :p

I guess I usually hang back with my own assets.

Amen. I love laying mines as an Engineer, it can be a great control point defense, but it becomes an exercise in frustration when an APC full of allies drives over a mine and everyone inside punishes you for a TK. That's not your fault. Shooting someone on your team is your fault. Someone else driving over one of your clearly marked mines (or walking over your clearly marked claymores) can't blame anyone but themselves. If they fixed that I'd be a lot more willing to lay down mines and claymores than I am now.

Hopefully they will make the menu load faster. I mean, a menu with its OWN LOADING SCREEN is totally unnessasary.

this makes me happy as a engineer, this patch can't come soon enough, hopefully i wont be bored with the game by the time it comes out

as far as the laggy menu , as soon as i removed all the video's the problem went away (the ea and nvidia logo thing , in the same directory there's other videos in there , remove (or rename for safety) those too, they are the background video of the menu and can be removed safely.)

I'm quite excited, once they change TK logic, maybe the engineer class will be fun to play again. Sometimes engineers can be plain stupid though, I hate it when a stupid engineer surrounds a base with mines or blocks up a major road that is nowhere near enemy control, making it impossible for your own vehicle to traverse.

The only thing I don't like is that the people that padded already will probably get to keep their ranks and all the points they put up.

Is their a way to add a server to the browser as a favorite? I hate typing in a ip over and over again.

Mine loads automatcally don't know where your getting this menu Loading Screen from.

ROFL No kiddin'... It's so great to see "menu loading" after pressing ESC in-game. Then wait 4 seconds... menu! Of course, then you need to wait another 4 seconds to get back into the game. lol

Oh yeah I know what your talking about now. :D

This is all good, but there are other changes I'd like to see. For instance, why can't a tank take out a Commander's assets? I understand the role for SpecOps, but it ony makes sense that a tank could smash a trailer or Radar disk with no problem. I guess that enemy Arty could do the same thing then and Dice wants to avaoid that issue. In that case I would limit the range of the Arty. But that's just me.

I'm pretty sure a tank can take them out, but it takes a lot of shots and is kinda hard to pull off before someone kills you.

And that would be different from a actual battle exactly how? Blind/kill the commander and the opposition is without a leader i.e. a clusterphuque. Seems like a pretty solid tactic to me.

sounds like you need a better comp, I have never seen a singal loading screen in the menues...

the only problem i have with them is the freezing when pulling server lists and even that is few far between, fast comp + 6mb cable line = no problems...

The loading screen appears ingame when you press esc. Sometimes when playing I press esc by accident, and it takes 10seconds+ to get back in the game. Its F'ing annoying. If I need a better system than: 3.0@3.6 + 1gb PC4000 + 74gb Raptor + 6800GT to load a menu, there is something wrong.
;)

Wanna send me some money? :p

I'm going to wait for my complete overhaul in a few months.

Oh god. I loved in the DEMO you could request to join a locked squad, yet you can't in the full. At least it's coming back...but w/e.

Yeah, I agree. I guess I've been in many actual battles where not that many guys make the effort. They are too busy trying to fly, or use vehicles. The game is a FPVS-- First Person Vehicular Shooter (TM)(R). People realized that pretty quickly.

Sure, once in a while a die hard Spec Ops guy or someone else, gets the assets. I'm just saying right now, in most of the games I've been in as a commander, worrying about your stuff getting blown away a lot is not an issue. Temporary set backs, yes. But continually down? No.

I don't care about the killing the commander part. I know how to take care of myself.

Its hard to do the menu better then it currently is.
BF2 is already resource intensive. Would you prefer to have the menu loaded, taking up precious memory, while you are playing?
I can wait 3 or 4 seconds for the menu to load. As for hitting ESC accidentally, I try to train myself not to do it.
