all the parts are modular, ie can swap out leather ear pads for velour, swap audio cable, headstrap etc... They are highlighting that feature for aesthetic concerns but it also means these things will last forever as you can replace whatever part wears out.

amazon has been wavering on price, I picked up at 175, but I've seen them as low as 160
definitely recommend these, they sound amazing and are built like a tank
 
I have some DT770 Pros that I can now hear the speakers rattle at certain frequencies. Its a shame cause I spent $200 on them and they last only a few years of moderate music use. Kinda makes me scared to try them again.

Absoultely loved the sound from them before then though.

hair on the driver? i've read that can cause it sound like a rattling driver. just takes opening them up and looking.
 
^This. Thought my D2000's where crapping out on me afew years ago. Turned out just to be a hair poking through and touching the driver.

I would like to third this.
Was about to throw my DT770s away, when I decided to crack em open. Sure enough, there was a hair on the driver.

Take some sticky tape and attack the foam covering the drivers. Worst case, open em up and do a really thorough cleaning job.

Mine sound GREAT after about 3 years of extended, hard use. They had been rattling for about a year previous to me fixing it too.
 
Not to break the pattern, I'll fourth this.

Had the "hair touching the driver" issue with Koss SportaPros, Sennheiser HD580 and Audio-Technicas. It's a simple fix. If you don't want to disassemble the earcup, first look carefully at the foam covering the driver -- the hair is usually stuck in it.
 
Didnt see any hairs on the black foam. There is a white paper filter kind of ghing underneath that. It seems to be glued down. Is it that white filter that I need to remove and check? It covers the drover itself.

I similar problem after a year or two with my dt770s; was a hair that poked directly through; i could see it poking through the black phone your referring to and pulled it out; problem solved. If you don't see anything with a bright flashlight; i'd first play with scotch tape and see if you can snag the tip; and if no love; look into pulling the black foam off (Or check warranty; I recall it being decent).

I picked my 770s up in 2004; and have used them heavily ever since and they're holding strong (Replaced the Velour a few months back; was in bad shape.. haha (old/new pad below, can you guess which?)

Yea, the other side of mine is actually faded a bit more; didn't photograph as well though when I was playing with the tubes. Adds charm I think.
 
Please tell me that the metal part of the headband can be replaced. Nephew got a hold of them and I heard a snap. Removed the padding on the headband and there's like some crossover supports in between two metal bands that span from can to can and that is where he managed to snap one of them supports.

All I could find on their website was the padding which I don't need.
