What is the best video card under $50. If it is over even by $1 then dont bother posting.

What are you going to use the card for? And which system will you be putting that under-$50 video card into?

For under $50, there is nothing out there that's worthwhile for even light gaming. Most of the cards in that price range are based on old, outdated DX7-generation graphics chips that can't even support DX8.1, let alone DX9, in hardware. And quite a few of those cards in that range are based on DX6 (or older) generation chips.

PowerColor 9100 128MB 230/250 new with 1 year warranty for $49 from Cnetpc (good resellerrating - about 9.25).
They also have a 64MB for the same price, but clock speeds arent listed.

That is By far the best deal in this price range - most people sell cards like that for closer to $75.

Buy it now before they run out, cheapskate.

Your second choice would be a much crappier GeForce 4 MX 4000 or MX 440 (275 core with at least 400MHz RAM).

That is a great deal, go for it!

Yes that 9100 is a great deal and will let you play all bet the newest games.

But then, does that $49 price include shipping, or is shipping extra?

Remember, he has a firm price cap of $50, tax and shipping included.

By that criteria, there is nothing that I can recommend in that price range, unless you're not going to play any games at all whatsoever.

It appears to include shipping.
Edit: The same site also stocks a Sapphire 9100/128MB for the same price with a purty red PCB (and unknown clock speeds, though the RAM does not appear to be ETron).

Actually, shipping is extra for that card. I've just checked the site, and shipping charges are not calculated until the shipping address is entered. The shipping charge appears to be zero because CnetPC charges different shipping rates based on distance. That vendor is based in New Jersey, and shipping the card all the way to California will cost more $$$ than shipping that same card to Illinois.

However, the original poster is in Pennsylvania, which is pretty close to New Jersey. So, the shipping charge would be just a few bucks, putting the total cost to him over his limit.

For which one and how much?
The original poster incidentally did not appear to state whether or not his price included shipping.

If he is willing to forgo such an excellent card for such a low price he deserves everything he gets ;)

I couldn't tell you exactly, because I would have had to sign up for a new account over at that site just to even enter the address information. And only after entering that info will the actual shipping charge appear.

For this reason, I am leery of ordering from there. Why? Because like many other vendors, they will not tell you the shipping charges up front.

I've got some PCI S3 Virge 2 meg cards laying around here. I'll sell you one or two, hell maybe even three of 'em for $50. And I'll throw in free shipping. :p

While there could technically be a "best" card for that price range, it's going to be very difficult to make a decision for one. We don't even know what you mean by best. Usually it means the best gaming card, but in that price range you aren't going to find much that will actually game well. In many instances, I think my old Radeon 8500 will run better than a 9000-9200 series Radeon.

Newegg.

Its a 9200SE, talk among yourselves, but it is $49 including shipping and tracking to anywhere in the continental US. I don't think the "good reseller rating" that cnetpc has could ever match up to these guys.

Also..

I think that has something to do with the way Yahoo! stores are set up. Notice how the style of the web pages are all the same? thats because they all use the same all-inclusive software/hosting/back-end system to make them. Thats why you always get that deja-vu feeling when you order from retailers like these.

Go to www.computergeeks.com, they have crappy cards for cheap. Examples:

Rage Pro Turbo 4MB AGP Video Card w/ NLX Backing Plate
Part # 1094320010
Used
$6.75

S3 Savage IX 8MB 2x AGP Video Card w/TV-Out
Part # S3298SDR-8MTV
New
$10.50

S3 Savage IX 8MB PCI Video Card
Part # PCI-PS3298SDR-8M
New
$16.40

I hope this helps. Hey, these cards will run Mahjong or Solitaire LOL!

NOOOOO do not even consider Xabres. They are unsupported now and will NOT run latest games without a lot of trouble. I replaced mine months ago because it's basically legacy hardware now.

Definately try and get something ATI / NVIDIA so you know it should at least run most games if not well

im still trying to find out what he wants a 50 dollar card for..
i might sell ya my ti 4200 for 50 ..

Here's a plain vanilla Geforce3 64MB for 45 bucks. The shipping is $4 to $7 so I hope shipping doesn't cost more that $5.
